Has it ever occurred to you that maybe not everyone has photoshop? I think you shop users are jealous because you went through the trouble of pirating or (god forbid) actually buying photoshop? And yet little old free GIMP was always there to edit your pics?
(And I like the way my desktop is. 100 plus shortcuts FTW!!)
I have had worse happen to me in photoshop.
Complex isolation, carefully moving the mouse , suddenly LOLPSSCREENREFRESH, and it's ruined.
Excellent tutorial, this will help me with muzzle flashes.

Tutorial on smoke!
I think you should have kept the plane in.
I think you should have kept the plane in.
"Hey look at that, the smoke from my shells just so happened to form into the shape of a plane..."
*Bump*
Just keeping this up to help people out...
Finally, a good GIMP tutorial. Can you do one on how to make blood? Please?
You sir, are what the sir above me's avatar is, thank you so much now decent smoke. :sax:

I will, I will...
Perhaps I should bump that to #1 priority seeing as how so many people are asking for it...
gimme blud
Like I said, #1 priority right now.
Just to make it all official...
UPDATE TOMORROW!!!
Will cover Blood, Motion Blur, and (hopefully) rim lighting.
If you can cover blood smoke, fire and whatnot, then you have to be the most helpful person I have talked to in a while...
No one seems to care about the gimp users, but these thread are very nice.
Also, if you don't mind, please PM me where you found that awesome model.

You have one of whats?
And what do you want me to tell you how to do, the vaporization effect or the laser?
You have one of whats?

I want you to tell me how to make the skeleton torso visible, outline the edge in something that covers up the possible sharp edge(I'm not sure what the edge woudld look like...) and I want to know how to make that laser...
But I mostly want to know how to overlap models and have bits of one show through... like how you got his torso to be invisible where he was being hit and made the skeleton show through... Yeah, that.
Okay... also, I just tried to follow your first tutorial... just the dodge and burn one, and I cannot seem to select layers. It's making me REALLY mad, because aparently I succeeded in isolating my character (focal point) from my background, but now I can only draw on the background, and dodge and burn doesn't do anything on any setting...
I drew the outline around my character using the "free select tool".... It made little green rings like in the tutorial, and once I made it encircle him, it did the moving line effect... then I saw the paths tool, and was like "Oh crap!"... I don't know if that is actually important though... so I tried going to the "selection" tab, but I couldn't find any way to select anythign besides making layers from colors... I'm so lost right now....
so quick review:
-I have my character outlined with the free select tool
-my character's layer has been "anchored".
-I can draw on the back ground, but not on him.
-dodge and burn doen't do anything on any setting I can find.
Edit:
And now my task bar doesn't function... like, my windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen that functions even when the screen is frozen.... Yeah, my computer hates me.
UPDATE!!!

Next tutorial will be on rim lighting.
Bump to make sure everyone asking for blood saw the update.

Hmmmmm.... You put the character in a new layer yes?
Did you have that layer selected when you tried to draw on him?
Hmmmmm.... You put the character in a new layer yes?

I assume he's in another layer since I cannot draw on him, so I was asking how to select a layer.

Why in the hell would I be jealous when I have a superior product? Just doesn't make any sense.
BTW, pirating is really easy, thats why people do it.

Click on the layer he is in in the layer window. (If you don't see the layer window, press Ctrl+L)

Just because something costs money doesn't mean it is superior. GIMP can do pretty much everything Shop can do, so basically you are paying 600 bucks for an easier user interface.
Also, people don't pirate things because its easy, they pirate things so they can get stuff for free.

THANK YOU.
And gimp has a plugin called gimpshop that makes the interface very similiar to photoshop.
free.

I hope you are kidding. If not, then I doubt you know how complicated and powerful tool photohop is. Sure if you are just going to do simple task then they can provide the same experience, but go deeper and you will see what I mean.
