Gun tracers or mist?
Gun tracers or mist?
Ah gun tracers! I can get to work on that tomorrow!
Holy fuck that picture is brilliant.
If I saw that picture somewhere else, I would never have guess that that would be from GMod.
Awesome tutorial.
Nice easy to follow tutorial. Thanks
and While I use various commercial art programs for various tasks, I would never give up on using Gimp, it's still the best editor I've come across and as stated it's free.
I think a lot don't like it because it doesn't baby them along like a lot of the over priced yet not as good programs do.
(Paint Shop Pro X2 Ultimate for example I had to purchase a few commercial addons from alien skin to get it to work the way I wanted, yet find the same for Gimp online free easily)
I've had friends who thought it sucked too not being used to it's floating tool bar and sometimes it not being as clear cut to use as other programs but after sticking with it and giving it a chance they all love it.
Guess the simple soulution is if you don't like Gimp just don't use it ;)
Yo, Vman are you ever going to update this with tracers like you said? Not for my benefit, I already worked out how to do it all right, but some people will find it very useful.

Uhhh... yes?
Srry guys! I have been too busy with things (cough saints row 2 cough) to make new Tuts, but I promise you I will get the Tracer tut out within the next week! (Although it might be Valve time)

how do you guys make that kinda of lighting? It seems like it'd be a some fairly simple color edit, but I'm not even sure how to go about it...
I'd love if this was explained... I do accept that it very well might be something in only photoshop, but I doubt there's anything in there that can't be achieved by a little elbow grease in gimp, or less work and a little more tool finding as the case may be... I just love that particular lighting effect, and I'm not at all sure how to do it. If it's simple thing that doesn't require a tutorial you can PM me if you want. I'm fairly sure it just involves some contrast editing, adn I know how to do that, but I can't seem to get it to happen.
Also, I'm assuming it's pretty easy since it was done in this, obviously lazy and quick edit.

If you are talking about the overall lighting scheme then all you need to do is open up Contrast/Brightness and turn up the contrast a little. Its rather simple.
P.S. Gonna try and add some new content before Red Faction: Guerrilla comes out because if I don't put out anything by then, it won't come out for a looooong time...
I'm gonna sticky this for a little while

*GASP*
Holy shit!! Stickied!
Thanks a lot Uberslug!
I think I might just make this a community tutorial, so if anyone wants to add their own editing tips and tricks they can! Gonna update the OP...
Not permanent, just so more people see it. Garry doesn't like stickies :ssh:
Good enough for me :v:
How do you create the film grain effect?
How do you create the film grain effect?
"Filters/Distort/Noise" or something similar.
How do you create the film grain effect?
You go to the Filters/Noise/HSV Noise tab. Usually the default settings are good for regular film grain.
I was gonna say what's with the sticky but I read the thread some more
how about we sticky mine now
what gimp version do you use? with the 2.6 the paths seem to be diffrent and dont trace like you say is there somthing wrong that i am doing?

How could the path tool be different? All it does is connect dots.
Just make a lot of dots. Like I said be detailed.
-nevermind, fixed...-
Glad to see there are others who use GIMP. I thought I was isolated.
Nice.. Maybe this will make me use gimp!
