Sounds like a codec problem to me. Re-install the K-Lite Codec Pack.
Get Divx: www.divx.com
That config is not needed
The video won't work unless it's full frames(no codec).
Did for me, after I followed IHASAPIE's last post. Thank you. But it came out really dark and fuzzy... I can make it brighter in Vegas, but the fuzziness... I'm gonna fiddle with different codecs, see what helps.
I don't like the MPEG4 codec because I have problems editng it. I like to use the 'Cinepak by radius' codec, but it won't work:(.
I like to use uncompressed, but that doesn't work for me, yet it does for you... :tinfoil:
I'm not just assuming it :v:
I bought Fraps. Edit: And WinRAR Edit: And mIRC
I bought Fraps. Edit: And WinRAR Edit: And mIRC
Wow... How honest of you. Though you don't even need to pirate WinRar to use it for free... After the 30-day trial, it just tells you to buy it. You can ignore that, and use it anyway.

Uncompressed doesn't work on normal playback, but it should work once you render it and add effects after editing. MPEG-4 is fine for vegas/premiere editing. Xvid is better, but since it doesn't work with those editors, it's only good for WMM. You can render with it though.

Not even in Vegas.
Virtual Dub can convert file types well. For example, and Xvid clip to MPEG-4 or whatever.
SourceRecorder is even more laggy than fraps for me, what am i doing wrong??
dammit, on some of my demos the videos won't come out. they're either laggy or corrupted. DAMMIT
Ok, I'm starting in making movies and all. I'm just wondering what I need beyond a program to put clips together for this. The .cfg I won't need for now. But it seems like a lot of these steps are needing a bit too much. Why does it HAVE to be windowed at 640x800? Will it work no other way whatsoever without fail? I also already have some .dem's, probably gonna re-record them since a newer version of that map was released, but yeah.
This is a fantastic tutorial! But can you only enter startmovie mymovie avi, can't you enter startmovie mymovie mpeg? Also where do you get mpeg from the drop down menu? All I can find is Windows Video 1... is that the mpeg you speek of??? This is great, does it stop your gmod folder getting cloged up with the frame files which take up friggin' massive amounts of space? Thanks again for the great tutorial! :D
Simple. Install the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. Then use startmovie mymovie avi, and you'll be able to select MPEG. The container will always be AVI, the codec will differ. Yes. This method outputs one AVI file, not the 255951095 frames + wav.

Edit: Hmmm I installed the codec pack, but mpeg still doesn't show up... Do I have to restart my computer or something???
I don't have any idea. It should work. Are you sure you checked the correct checkboxes in the installer / got the correct codec pack?

Heh. Very useful.
yeah vegas is buch of crap when it render's sound
hmm... Un compressed codec T_T
hmm... Un compressed codec T_T
Owned. But uncompressed isn't for playback. Does it look the same once you render it in some kind of editor?
I disagree with the OP. I think you should explain the pros and cons of different resolutions, as well as windowed and fullscreen mode. 640x480 is NOT sufficient for everyone. If you want the final video to be 640x480, I would personally recommend you record at 1280x960 and resize it to 50% when rendering the AVI. This results in the best anti-aliasing possible. Also, 720p is 1280x720 and 1080p is 1920x1080 - people might want to use those. Windowed mode allows you to leave the program alone while it renders the TGAs, but is slower than leaving it on fullscreen mode and just NOT TOUCHING IT til it's done. 2 cents
Yeah, I recorded in full screen at my normal max resolution and it worked fine. My files were huge but the video worked fine so I am not sure why it is always said to go to windowed mode and small resolution. But I had a question about Tween Camera and Source Recorder. The one time I tried to use Source Recorder with Tween Camera it would not work. I know about starting in normal view and then switching to camera after you start recording and that works for normal cameras but that did not seem to work with Tween Camera (or Camera Tween, whatever it is called). Is this a known problem with Camera Tween and Source Recorder? *EDIT* I found a new addon called Moving Camera that does work with Source Recorder. You can find it here: http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=18602 Thanks!
Owned. But uncompressed isn't for playback. Does it look the same once you render it in some kind of editor?
Ah hadn't tried that, I just wanted to have a look through. Will try on Edius. Edit: Also it's 4 gig! :0 Edit2: hmm that didn't work also I can't use Xvid codec because it says this console error:
FIXME: Divx only for now
and the resulting quality is absolutely shit.
