I think it's just the angle of the gun, I'm relatively certain it's normal sized.

On the other hand, I'm totally not crazy about that Hunter/human hack. I just think the tape looks silly on a normal looking character. It also bugs me that he has no pack, or sling, or anything. How can you wonder a desert with no stuff, you know?
