I learned how to build better mechs not because I used sestze's chip, but because I watched how his mechs work. I'm just glad this thread is still alive and kicking. I'm still using old wire methods to make walkers and stuff and I stumbled upon a way to make a mech walk similar to how a pistol rotates around in an engine. I'm also trying to optimize how I build based on many trial and error build sessions and brain storms. I'd just like to thank sestze for being an awesome mech builder.
hey, can anyone show me how to build a mech like this. I need it simple, in Leyman's Terms please. The problem with my mech is when I press forward or back, my mech just raises one foot and slides around sideways. How does that happen? By the way, I watched Ses's youtube tutorial and followed that, problem is, I don't know what he is wiring when he gets to the end.
Sestze: yes
Sestze: how can I help you
☠☣Justin95☣☠: hey you posted a vid for the mech?
Sestze: yeah i did
☠☣Justin95☣☠: em i correct?
☠☣Justin95☣☠: ok
☠☣Justin95☣☠: well i need to now if you know vtol
Sestze: yeah I can make shit fly
☠☣Justin95☣☠: can you show me some time?
Sestze: it's an awkward imposition you put me in
Sestze: I can't "teach" you it because it's mostly e2
Sestze: so it'd require me to explain what I'm doing with the 2
Sestze: and pretty much describe/give you the e2 for it
Sestze: which seems like a gigantic waste of time, and you wont' learn much if anything
☠☣Justin95☣☠: im good with e2 but i just dont know were to find the mech and vtol e2 setting
☠☣Justin95☣☠: settings*
Sestze: hahahahah what
Sestze: look just pause for a second and read what you wrote
☠☣Justin95☣☠: what?
☠☣Justin95☣☠: the vtol use e2
Sestze: "I am good with e2" and then "I don't know where to find the mech and vtol e2 setting"
Sestze: there's no "setting"
Sestze: what do you mean, are you saying you are capable of throwing down prebuilt e2s and doing shit with them
Sestze: or are you saying you can code them from scratch to do things
☠☣Justin95☣☠: there are the setting like the lines and the inputs, labels, outputs
Sestze: yeah you code those from scratch
Sestze: you put in the input and outputs
☠☣Justin95☣☠: i made a mouse aimed turret from scrach
☠☣Justin95☣☠: thats about it
Sestze: if I told you the inputs for the vtol (really fauxcopter or nqnr, either or) were "X, Y, Active, Thtup, Thtdn, Rolll Rollr" and had the output "Debug"
Sestze: what the hell does that do for you
☠☣Justin95☣☠: the x and the y mean like the X Y and Z for the world map
☠☣Justin95☣☠: the active is like for a adv pod controler
Sestze: does it help you though?
Sestze: No.
☠☣Justin95☣☠: the rest is for were it turns
Sestze: (And it's not X and Y from the world pos)
☠☣Justin95☣☠: there wheres it from
Sestze: an eyepod
Sestze: you honestly don't get any information you weren't able to get from just experimenting with it if I give you the inputs
Sestze: You don't understand what I'm trying to tell you
☠☣Justin95☣☠: look if i cant get any help from you then ok
☠☣Justin95☣☠: ill go some where else
Sestze: A good idea
Sestze: I'm curious, why did you add me as a friend
Sestze: if the only thing you want from me is e2 help?
☠☣Justin95☣☠: to see if i can ask you for the vtol info and how to make a mech
☠☣Justin95☣☠ is now Offline.
I hate you all so very much. Don't add me as a friend to ask me for e2 help, I swear to god I'll fucking stab you in the neck.
^ Lol at that...

Oh man, that was pretty funny. You are more patient in that situation than I would have been.
I swear to god I'll fucking stab you in the neck
I already did!
Lolz at chat log rage.
He doesn't know anything about E2, lol...
He "made" a mouse amined turret. Yeah, Right.
Even though I am pretty sucky at E2, at least I know ho it works, and know basic coding.
sestze I have some problem with your chip... Yesterday I spawned my last mech (heh, made it 1-2 months ago) refreshed your chip to the latest code, checked everything, and then... The mech BROKE OUT of advanced ballsocket, and torned to it's side, started flying, then the ballsocket killed my gmod (lol)What the hell happened? Last time I spawned it it was working Oo And before that mech was build I could make 3 cubes walk like a mech, now if I connect them, they fly at 3 dirrection...
Check the weight of all the props you used. They may have reverted back to it original values or broke during the dup. Make sure you spawn your Adv. duplicate at the original angle it was facing or the Adv. ballsocket will break causing the flailing death of your gmod. Adv. ballsocket does not duplicate well, so you make have to redo all your duplications. Hope this helps.
heh the problem is, I paste it the same way as always :D but it still doesn't tell me why can't I make 3 cubes walk like before Oo
<derp>
:D Coolio.... And Sestze.... I love you
So awesome :v: thank you very much
For its default setup what sort of size and weight mech works well? I know it's fairly straight forward to adjust the values but just for an idea of what to use
Same sort of deal as before. I was in a bit of a rush, but the torso control is given by the inputs X and Y
X and Y go to an Eyepod set to Cumulative Output (X and Y respectively). You weld the seat to the torso.
You then have a torso that looks around with your mouse.
Typically I use 1200 for feet and hip, 600 for leg segments, 600 for torso. You can scale it around.
Yo sestze, have you played mech warrior living legends yet? It's pretty awesome.
<derp>
It's phat I promise.

We need an "Sestze's awesome E2s that he bumps threads with" megathread.
But at least we get a new chip!
I have to give you something that works, at least.
The previous ones did, but I keep building mechs with this chip and finding little foibles from time to time.

I think you're looking at it
<derp>
You need to position the chip around about center over the feet. It's not strictly necessary to have a leg system looks like that, but the chip must be over the two feet welded to the hip.
I'll point out that after wiring everything up (entity markers, inputs, etc.) you need to reupdate the chip using the expression 2 gate tool. This "records" the entity marker information (relative positions and the like) so it actually knows what to do when you unfreeze it.
If things are getting spazzy, you should check your weights. Since you're working with a set of filing cabinets, you're looking at the highest weight being 90. Now, it's possible with this system to get that to work, you're just going to have to reduce Pshd and Mul accordingly to prevent it from flipping the fuck out.
The way it sounds to me is that you don't have a knee. It's entirely possible for this to work (I've done setups that use just a swivelling hip and straight up/down trash cans), but I don't suggest it unless you've got some serious hacks regarding advanced ballsocket.
dude, im having troubles here tooo...... im a major noob to this stuff, but i like a challenge, so i tried the code for ur chip, and i keep getting errors, how do i fix this? PLEASE!!??!!??

Try this.
<derp>
Can someone help me
every time i use any of the MWMOV_Kegs_v
codes the expression 2 gate complains about these
character "[ or ]" after being spawned
look at the inputs lines, I'm containing all of them in blocks
if you're running into that issue, you need to update your wire. Best plan is to go grab the wire SVN.
No I'm not going to walk you through the process. Multiple variable naming using square brackets have been around for about a year now. Get with the times please.
Yeah your wire must be ancient :v:
Thanks for the newest chip Sestze, but I have an issue with it.
The torso goes crazy, it points where it should but it vibrates massively. I'm simply using a pod that is ball-socketed by its center (and I've tried various weights)
