It's a joke, since it's Nodex's motto you idiot.
just spent the whole morning making a chassis for my Truck at Nodex, and when I was ready to parent most of the contraption disapeared... I am dissapoint!
The lighting in Wireconstruct is also bad -.-
The lighting is like that on purpose so your eyes don't start hurting.:science:
[Random Tool] is only on [Some Server I Don't Care About]? That's too bad, because I don't really give enough of a shit to play on [Random Stranger]'s server just to use [One Random Tool] because [Random Asshole] is too elitist to release it to the general public.

It appears you don't know the definition of elitism.
It appears you don't know the definition of elitism.

The term elitism is also sometimes used to denote situations in which ... an in-group or cadre grant themselves extra privileges at the expense of others
That seems to me like it describes the situation fairly well. An individual creates an add-on, but, rather than releasing it for the benefit of the entire population, restricts its access to one particular server in an attempt to create an atmosphere of exclusivity.
I'm not willing to rely on the availability of some random server whenever I feel like building something. If a given tool is not available on a decent selection of servers, or if I can't use it in single-player and later upload my contraption to a number of servers, then that tool may as well not exist as far as I'm concerned.
Personally, if I made an add-on, I would much rather see it on every server and see thousands of people using it every day as opposed to restricting it to some close-knit group.
Ignoring the ranting decoy dwarf leopard just came with I must agree that the parenting went a lot smoother after i figured out how.... it's even less laggy than the others.

Yes, I completely agree. Stating my opinion makes me a raving lunatic.

Story of all server exclusive tools.
Its not at the expense of others

There is nothing wrong with making something private either. Running a server is like running a business. You need your clients to be happy so your server stays alive. You also might need their help in the form of donations to keep the server running. Private addons/stools/etc are a useful and easy way to give your servers an edge against the others.
I have been on the Nodex servers before. The people there don't seem like a bad bunch. I have no idea why are you ranting about their private stuff. Besides, no one is forcing you to use their servers. There are other parent stools available.
is it just me or does parenting leave a physical hard shell of something invisible that remains after you have moved the finished parented prop?
is it just me or does parenting leave a physical hard shell of something invisible that remains after you have moved the finished parented prop?
I think that depends on which parenter you used. Once you parent a prop, you really can't move it because the physics mesh will stay at its original location. Paranting is usually the last thing to do. Dupe the original contraption then parent it for testing.
is it just me or does parenting leave a physical hard shell of something invisible that remains after you have moved the finished parented prop?
That's why you use nocollide-all on props you intend to parent.

Sure, it's their prerogative to keep their creations private. That doesn't mean that it's good for the Garry's Mod community as a whole though. Imagine if you could only use Precision Alignment or Smartsnap on one particular server, for example. If your internet goes down, or you didn't want to play online, or if the server was offline, or if the server didn't have the props you needed to build with, or any other issue came up, you'd be shit out of luck. Again, being forced to rely on a particular server for access to a tool is a bad scenario.
A good server shouldn't need to rely on dangling a carrot on a stick in order to keep people coming back. It gives off a "we're afraid that if we don't lock up our special toys then none of the other kids will play here" vibe. If a privatized server is truly "good," then it would in all likelihood still be good with a public toolset.
Besides, no one is forcing you to use their servers. There are other parent stools available.
Uh, that's sort of the whole point. Why should I tailor my online building around one server and their mystical toolset that most people have never heard of? Especially considering that it doesn't even have a toolgun but is just a bunch of console commands. I can use other tools to accomplish the exact same thing without being reliant on one server, and I can use these other tools in the majority of the servers that I frequent or even offline if I so choose.
Again, as far as I'm concerned, private tools may as well not exist, because they have limited practicality for building. I don't care if it's a god-tier tool that even does my laundry for me if it doesn't wash my clothes when I want it to.
Youre trying to convince people to not use it, nobody forces you to even go to the server.

You decide if you wanna go there, I choose to go there because of the community and the correct addons aswell as ECS.
Also, your point about a server has to be "truly" good is a load of crap. All servers are the same, they are only defined by what is on them and their community.
You decide if you wanna go there
And for those of us that are on the other side of the planet?
Im trying to make a relatively large ship and I cant seam to find a way to bind it together that works right. If i weld one to the next like with Easy Precision everything shifts around quite a lot and especially when its moving. If i just weld each piece to multiple pieces near it or use Smart Constraint it holds together a bit better but there is still a lot of shifting and when i upload it to a MP server it lags really bad and even starts DCing people. I then tried Parenting and Super Parent Multi. Everything held together a LOT better but now I fall through every surface and the only piece that doesn't pass through ground is the parent. I tried the Super parent setting where it wont no-collide everything but then i run into the problem that the slightest touch or movement sends the thing flinging around the map.
Is there any sort of constraint tool that holds everything together better than weld and some less lag but doesn't make the thing as touchy as parent?
So Seaxneeat, what did you decide on?
There's a UK and a US server.
Both are useless for land down under...ers... :c
That ESC suite seems far to complicated for just a generic play around on a spacebuild server, is there a parenting tool like Super Parent Multi that'll let props not fall through the world? or are we pretty much just doomed to choose between a laggy mess like a bunch of welded props and whatever you parent falling through planets?
Also, what's the better non ECS parenting tool? I've been using super parent multi, been working beautifully for me except fo the previous issue, is there another tool that's better? The only other problem i can see with SPM is that unless you fix a heavy weight to a centre prop, it occasionally starts to spaz out when using thrusters and the like.
That question gives me deja vu, I could swear I've seen it phrased almost the same.
If you want to reduce lag, use parenting. If you want full collisions, use welding. If you want a bit of both, use parenting on the visible props with a simple, invisible + welded "collision hull".
i parent stuff to a wire chip but i keep crashing why is that?
If you spawn a wire chip on a prop, and then you parent that same prop to the chip, your gmod will eat itself.
i did and gmod black holed
It's best to spawn the chip on the ground to avoid that happening.

I'm going to try that now. It honestly never occurred to me
