fact: fin is poorly coded
reality: deal w/ it
is dat sum karbine. And yes it is... quite so, yes... tea.... marmelade... indeed.... bad teeth....
Anyway I thought about making a landmark but it didn't come out a landmark. fuc
Well, fuck. All other attempts have failed to do something intricate and well planned.
I'm done trying to build a copter-esque fin omnicar. This time, I'm thinking more like a damn jet. Forward facing fin turbines, some easy to make control surfaces, wheels hard attached to the frame, and paper material for floating.......I think I can pull that off and still go without using thrusters....
Lol. ^
Sorry for the delays on the course. I have been kind of busy. It will be up soon.
Are you making a map or a course on a map?
What will phys_maxvelocity & phys_angularvelocity be set at to make it fair?
Not positive on this but the higher they are, the easier it is to make fin stuff effective.
Ohai I'm here to waste some of my summer again cheers fags :3
and win this omnicar competition btw
The Fin stool can be really useful but a real pain in the butt at times.
I would use this, its some of the useful tools that we had in the Tricky's Tutorials servers awhile back. It comes with a Wire Fin Controller which you can use to change the efficiency when you need to. It should make handling finned props easier.
http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=59831
Either way, the Fin Stool in general needs an update. Not one that combines the wire bit with the fin stool out there. I mean a real one that has updated code and such.
Fin controller is on our server.
Standard server physics. Nothing has been adjusted.
k fins are hard dog :C
Is it gonna be more of a speed, reliability or aesthetics kind of thing? Can't right get all three without spraining my dick trying lol.

Make something that functions, then make it pretty. That's my method. That's why most of the stuff in my youtube videos work to some extent before they look good.
Pretty much. If it looks nice and doesn't work, then why have even bothered. It has to maneuver a course which is the main way it will be judged.
k gatcha
would using an airboat on bottom be cheating? Since that's like the only thing that can impact water without considerable drag :P
nevermind.. stupid idea lol
agreed
I need some help:

I know it looks weird but its just a little thing that lets me adjust the angle on my 'propeller' so i can change direction and stuff.
Anyway the problem is with this setup and even more simple setups, it works fine in isolation but as soon as I attach it to something i want to get moving the propellers flap around and since it weighs less than most of the contraption it usually ends up as a black-hole due to those hydraulics :saddowns:
How can I make it more stable?
Oh and on another note, you said that the actual lift could be done with applyforce magic, does this also apply for the water mode so I can use a detect water ranger to keep it afloat?
^try changing the physical properties to "paper". Paper floats. No need for water magic.
^ there is a buoyancy tool also..
Make your pieces weigh a lot before making the hydros (so they adjust to the weight), and heep the fins lightweight.. That should help keep it stable.
Make sure the main body is the biggest proportional part and weighs more than the fins and their plate.. Your body is smaller than the plates it controls there
It also helps to have a hydro on the opposite side with reversed values for stability..
^wow....I'm so enlightened now. Now my bote will flote like a champ.
^cannot.. tell if sarcasm!? D:
*explode*
Aww. You guys were on topic for SOOO long. GET BACK TO WORK.
BTW, the course is now going to be a surprise. You will come on the server, spawn in your vehicle and run the course. No one will know anyones times except for the admins.

Is the course done yet? When will the competition start? What is the prize for winning????
yeah, i need to know what my craft needs to be capable of.
I really think you should show people the course, or at least give some info like how steep the slopes are and what kind of flying is involved (through a track in the air or lots of room).
It would be really shit if someone built something awesome and when they show up on the server they can't drive over the pile of logs 5 seconds in :\
Hmm. How about I give specific details of what it should be capable of without releasing the course.

or maybe that. I mean from the looks of gm excess waters, I think things are going to be mostly water, a bit of water to air then to land, or mostly touching the pillars in a certain order.
But who knows, I don't.
I'm trying to build around the idea that I'll have to go from land to water, back to land, fly, land, fly again, land in water, fly from water, then maneuver some hoops in the air.
I think that if sestze tweaks his ground capabilities slightly, like adding a wheel suspension independent of his hover fins, he should have a working shot at the brownie points we will win for doing this competition. I'm personally am fond of the current design I'm trying to work out, I just need to be able to balance my hovercraft using only fins, fight now I'm failing. I hate being an E2 noob.
I just want to know how to gauge the flying portion.. Like is it flying through rings or whatever or just one spot to another. That kinda matters a lot
I have not had a chance to put the course together yet. I have been super busy.
As I picture it in my head, there will be a lot of tight, most likely slow driving. Water will be put in the equation for brief amounts of time seeing as floating contraptions that move in GMOD are kind of weird. Flight will play this biggest role. When the flight comes into play I am going to try to make it so that you can go any way you want, but the most direct path may be the most difficult to navigate.
Lets say if your contraption can go straight up and down you can get through a certain section quick but it might be slow for the long straight flight sections.

Like I said, sestze's design will do fine.
Any updates? It has been a day or so.
Were waiting on you...........Are you done yet?

>:C You're supposed to have a course fag
but yes I made a thing and it flies k?
Sorry for the delays. Just been working on my sim racing league, we just got a sponsor to cover costs. We also have just launched our new Arma 2 server and I am trying to work out all the bugs there.
Plus, the OmniCar is not the only competition...
