I'm probably gonna make another short again, but it'll be a lot better than my last one. And it'll be funny.
We can contribute more than once?
I'm sure Yamibito said so, yeah. Not in the same epsiode though.
I'm sure Yamibito said so, yeah. Not in the same epsiode though.
Yes you can contribute more than twice, just not for the same episode.
Just a suggestion, but im thinking there should be a private steam group called The Beaver Fusion Contributors. Only contributors can join, and the group will notify the contributors of deadlines,
upcoming themes, news, etc. It would be a good way to organise everything. I could set it up if you want
now, and place administration to Yamibito. I also MIGHT be able to get us a logo or something, I wouldnt
count on it but its a possibility.

This.
I liked Fumples and faolco1's the best.
Also yamibito's was great too.
Water is good for you.
Hey guys, so I decided to do a full review of your film collab and what can be improved for the next one. Please don't take this the wrong way; I'm only saying my thoughts on the film. Me being a film maker myself (It is my day job) I understand what it takes when making a film. Yes it is long, but I go in-depth on what you can improve in each video plus some tips.

Intro: I think the intro is great and really captures the 80's vibe. "Look into the camera" :P Random but worked. Plus your intro credit "Beaver Fusion!" ect... Was awesome. I loved the triangle loop plus the song was perfect. Only thing I would have improved was add more of a nostalgic feel to it, the intro credits do feel a little modern.
Falocol --> Intro shot to the video was good, really opened the video; gave the feeling that he really was the only one saving the world. The "look up lol" scene was not the best, I felt it didn't add much to it; I think it would have worked better if the plane just flew over head and scared the combine. Maybe even fire a couple shots to show that he was an enemy.
Your next scene was a little too quick, we came in just as someone was shot; what could have made it better was flushing it out. Come in as the guy was begging for his life, then he gets shot. That would have made more sense, plus you should have had more shots of the terrorists controlling the town. Like a group of them walking down the street, blowing up a car; stuff that really shows they have taken over.
Your next couple scenes were good, good cinematography on them. The antalion Guard hitting the combine was a little lame but it works for the 80's theme. The explosions are nice. The scene when he fights the antalions was great; some of your angles were great. Your slow mo one should have been a couple seconds longer.
Walking scenes was ok. The fight scene needs a little work, like when he grabs the T, you could have had some better hand placements. When the T is being shot on the ground, not the best... The explosion was good.
All in all ok film 6/10  Improvements: Flush it out, more scenes, not as quick, work on posing.
Yamibito: Pretty good cinematography, music works, I like the joke. But it was a little dry, not as interesting as the other films. You could have added more to it. But I understand that it was suppose to be a commercial type video.
Verdict 5/10  Improvements: Longer? Interesting? More?

Freaky Soup = So the first 50 seconds of the film I could hardly see anything... I had to turn the brightness up on my monitor just to see it. I understand you wanted it to look like the night time, but you went a little too intense on it. I like the multiple angles of the crash, reminds me of John Woo.
The shaky camera feels like it was forced instead of intentional, meaning instead of it being fluid, it was rough and just hard to watch. If you did it a little more subtle I think it would have been better, make it like you are holding a hand held camera in real life. I get the message you are trying to show but I feel it wasn’t shown in the best way. I didn’t follow why he starts dancing and then falls back down. But the message is there.
In the end 4/10 = Improvements: Think it out a little more, never get to crazy on the effects your not Michael bay.
Adamhully: Well I don’t get what is happening in this... Really, I don’t get what is going on in this film. Starts off with trolling, then goes ragdoll hitting, then vortex, Sucks up Kliener, Gman pops up, car goes through boxes, Kliener in white room with random voice clips, zombie shows up, video ends. Am I missing something here? No production value, no plot, not thought out, uninteresting. I don’t see how this made it in and what does it have to do with the 80’s style? The Vortex was the only cool thing about this video
Verdict: 2/10  Improvements: Ummm... Everything

Fumples= Great intro, nice angles, perfect music. Good camera work and awesome POV shot as exiting plane. When the people are falling you could have worked on that a little more, it wasn’t the best. Epic fight scene and the music really made it seem even more epic. Love the pan of them fighting; the quick editing made it seem more hectic, nice touch.
Lmao, love how it was all just a dream: D the ragdoll posing could have been a lot better, and the ending didn’t really live up to the rest of the video. Could have connected like he fell back to sleep and the fight continues for a couple seconds and then ends, or his boss could have come in and got angry. Something that helped end it better.
All in all 8/10  Improvements: work on ragdoll posing, work on the script a little more.
Final verdict of the whole thing:5/10
I feel that it is a great idea, has a lot of potential if it is met with the right amount of production value and commitment. It has two good videos and three not so good videos, which doesn’t really balance out. People watch the first get interested then watch the next three which don’t meet the same value and the first and last one. I feel that this collab video was a little rushed and maybe people didn’t have the chance to make videos of the right quality. Next time give people a chance to get interested and then make a video, not a week deadline; give them three weeks or two.
Another thing is to me none of them really felt like they were 80’s style. Yamibito had the right idea but you didn’t execute it as well as you could have. Plus none of the videos look like they are from the 80’s, where is the old look to them, the crackles and the dull color? They look to modern.
A lost classic from the 80’s. To me that screams A-team or three’s a company. Cheesy but good. I feel that your film’s lost sight of that. Now if you are fine with how it is, then don’t worry about what I’m saying, I’m merely only trying to help you guys. For your next one (Horror, action, drama, romantic) they will be easier to peg down unlike this one.
But take into consideration the following things when making a film:
- Make a script = Please do this! This is very important when one is making a film. It gives you something to follow well making it, instead of thinking it all on the spot.
- Slow down – You don’t need to cut corners when making this films, spend an extra 10 minutes to make the scene more believable or do a better face pose.
- Stop trying to recreate videos like “The Idiots of Gmod” – PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP! They aren’t funny anymore, it’s like watching “Meet the Spartans” they are just rehashed and unfunny jokes.
- Angles – Think about angles that work for what’s going on. You don’t use a worm’s eye view show when someone is crying, nor do you use a bird’s eye view when someone is angry/powerful. Come up with crazy stuff that makes the video interesting
- Music – This is one is a biggy. When choosing music it is best to choose one that works for that scene/video, like don’t choose Blink 182 for an action scene... But you might choose Rage Against Machine. It is a little more opinionated but you want a song that compliments that scene.
- Flush out – What I mean by this is add more scenes that allow the story to flow better. Take the following scene:
Car pulls up
Window rolls down
Muzzle exits
Shots fired
Two people hit
Car speeds away
What you could have done is:
Car pulls up
People look over
Window rolls down to reveal hooded figure
Muzzle exits
Show reactions of people
Shots fired
Show casings falling on ground
Show people running
Two people hit
Car speeds away
The second one shows flushing because by adding four little angles, the scene now makes more sense plus it will look better.
Overall it needs work, but you guys can easily fix it. Just work hard and you could have some really awesome videos.
But please don’t take this as me attacking you guys or trying to make you look bad. I want to help and hopefully push you to start making some real good Gmod films and help turn this dying art into a thriving art.
That’s all for now, have a nice night guys

Yeah, pretty much eveything you said I agree with! Alot of the stuff was filmed at last minute (lack of ideas :V) The ending was really just supposed to be taken as the stupidest thing ever, the way he picks him up and punches him. Plus, it was really my first crack at posing :c
Thanks alot man, I really appreciate the in depth review.

Yeah, Erick's and Mat's videos were alright.
How is it going with the group?
How is it going with the group?
I'll start it up tonight. As for the review, thanks I appreciate your comments, episode one was more a proof of concept than anything else with the future episodes after episode 2 being alot more focused with a longer deadline of around 3 weeks so an episode can be out each month. The 80s theme is kinda a joke with the videos looking modern in comparison :v:.
For everyone confused about my video:
Gman is tired of all the quick 5 minute mingebag movies, so he's opening portals in all of the mingebag servers, and pulling them into the abyss forever. The slow motion car getaway is sort of him just showing off and thinking that hes cool. The end in the white room is showing the mingebag in the abyss, i tried to add humour with the fast zombie but i'm having a bit of writers block at the minute. It might have made more sense if it was the first video played, to show as a result of his heroics, the folloing videos after were made.
I thought you would have all picked this up.
Well, I made mine for EP2, its a horror video and I hope it will send chills down your spine when
you watch it, to be honest it kind of creeped me out when I was filming.

Well, hah. That's funny because I got that exact thing in some maps. What map is it?

Gm_Urbex + Dark Bloom + Ghostly Props = I shat bricks.
I spawned my "thing" when I was getting ready to film and I forgot I had another "thing" in a corner somewhere from a previous shot so when I was walking around I saw that previous "thing" and nearly fell out of my seat.
Umm...that was okay....I guess I thought it was going to be more funny.
Umm...that was okay....I guess I thought it was going to be more funny.
Perhaps I'll have to replan this whole thing to be comedy only, I dunno.
God people. I never had to be funny from the start. "entertaining" doesn't always mean funny. -.-
Anyway, im almost done with mine, just need to render.

In all honesty, can you care to share what makes you think this is instantly going to be a comedy? With all due respect you cant just come into a thread in the Garrysmod Videos section and expect it to be 100 percent "Funny".
Ever since the Idiots of Garrysmod, Idiot Box, everyone expects "funny". Its really getting annoying.
Anyways, as I questioned above, what made you think this is going to be funny ? Was it the title, because yes it does kind of have a humorous tone to it.
Actually Yamibito himself said the clips can be funny. It's a biiit misleading.
Maybe it's just the fact that Gmod can't be taken 100% seriously. It has no animation tools and you'll be using ragdolls most of the time. And if it's meant to be serious you can't just use cliche ideas or anything that just comes to you in 2 minutes.
If you bring up War of the Servers you might as well be using hl2dm and the faceposer.

Garrysmod can be taken seriously, and it has in many ways, there is many machinimas out there that capture a essence of horror, action, and any other genre that is NOT comedy. Using ragdolls most of the time? What happened to for example, NPC Scene, or NPC Move, or all those NPC Tools, SDK Faceposer is superb as well. The last bit is quite true though.
Hmm. OK.

I use filefront.
I'm not a hard person to entertain, Yamibito. If your next film is supposed to funny, it better make me laugh. This "Water, it's good for you thing" had me in pain, I'll tell you, I've never been in pain during a Gmod video before. NEVER

Not sure the exact number, at least three out of five were supposed to be funny. I think he was talking about the comedy attempts. I'm not going to mention any names but one in particular was pretty lame. You know who you are.

To prove this point wrong. I have looked through all the post in this thread and No one has called anyone a troll.
therefore that is invalid point. And I am being reasonable here. I do believe some things kurit said are correct but some of his criticism are one sided, in other words biased because that is only from one point of view.
