Posing is pretty hard in blender, I'm trying to make Breen do a certain dance move, but I'm only onto the first pose (after an hour). The timeline and keyframes kinda confuse me too. Oh well we'll see how it goes.

What I'd suggest doing is do all the main poses: the KEY keyframes (:v:), and then make the motion between the two by adjusting the delays, etc
When i try to open a model to decompile this error comes when i choose model file.
"Extra App ID is set to 211, but no SteamAppId." then the program closes.
Just extract the files from the GCF with GCFScape, then in the decompiler, be sure it isn't trying to read from it

Untick one of the option boxes before you click 'browse' to browse for your model file, i had this problem too.

I'm not really sure what you mean. You mean by moving the keyframes closer or father away from each other until the speed of the animation is right?
I'm about half way though now, and breen kinda looks like a robot, i guess i need to add some idle animations for the limbs that aren't doing anything or else they're just stiff. I guess i just move the limbs a little every 10 frames or something?
text
That's how I do for the basic draft of the motion
also yes, you should always animate every limb that is going to be seen; the brain can actually pick up the difference between it moving one pixel away or not at all
Ok, i can play my animation in the model viewer and faceposer (SDK is set up for Garry's mod), but i cannot play it in Gmod. The console just gives me
CSceneEntity Alyx :"Master Cheif" unable to find gesture "gravgun_shuffle"
I don't know where the hell "Master Cheif" came from, and i didn't even use the gesture "gravgun_shuffle".

Are you using a modified alyx that could interfere with that?

No the animation is actually Breen, the tool I'm using has the option to give NPC's names, i just left it at it's default 'Alyx'.
Did you compile the animation with the normal old "Male_postures" or did you use "breen_anims"? and also, try the console commands.

I changed it to breen_anims just like you said in the video. Just tried the console commands, nothing.
He'll play other animations fine though. And they work in model viewer. Very confusing.

When i type in a wrong name it tells me it doesn't excist, but when i type in my animation name it doesn't say anything. So it's being found but it's not playing for some reason.
Try "Breen_gestures" and see what happens (is breen_gestures what it's called? )

Just a friendly tip, NPC Scene sucks because
1) it has a bug in which it actually makes it so .vcd is not appended at the scene that is tried to play, so (that's for some strange reason how the engine behaves) your scene plays without the flex
2) Regular NPCs don't like being scripted because they have their own script to respect
Solution: use this instead: http://maxofs2d.nhost.org/index.php?dir=source/gmod_npc

What do you mean, rename the QC file from breen_anims to breen_gestures and then recompile it?

Mouse 3 tilts it to the side but ah well. Gunna watch some tutorials. Cheers for this one though. Very helpful :)
Does anyone else have the issue where if you try to compile an animation to a combine, it erases all of the stock animations?

That's completely normal and anyone with an ounce of common sense shouldn't be surprised.
I recommend doing a copy of the model and hexing it (both the model path and the animation data it calls) so you can easily switch between Valve's set and yours.
