Here is a generic WWII plane i made. I have to say i had a lot of fun flying this in flatgrass. It is incredibly stable. I guess it would be seeing as its slow moving and flying on three axis'. It uses a single propeller and is completely fin-operated.

Has anyone ever tried thrusters to keep aloft and weights to maneuver? (Using weights to make a plane tilt)
Has anyone ever tried thrusters to keep aloft and weights to maneuver? (Using weights to make a plane tilt)
I have done that with a helicopter, the problem is you cant yaw with weights, at least I couldn't.
And you cannot turn when you roll to the side and pull up, it would just make you climb or dive
Is there no way to make thrusters non-orient locally? Thats how I do all my hover baas in hammer. Like this little dude I've been working on (/lead in)
Well, it's all thruster based, but it's the most agile plane I've ever made that still tips out at max speed. It also uses a system of logiccompares and timers to make a "double click system so that every button has 2 sets of commands tied into it and another when pressed in tandem with another key
wasd - pitch yaw and ruddering, with power outputs controlled by mouse 1 and 2
a and d (single ) yaw left and right
a and d (double) DO A BARREL ROLL!
double w - emergency air brake (helicopter variant has double s and w for going up and down)
a and d- auto level
mouse 1 (single click) low power precision controls, no forward thrust
mouse 1 (double click) same as above but but forward thrust about equal to a running character
mouse 2 (single click) main drive controls, activates more powerful turning for tight spaces
mouse 2 (double) over drive. handling is smooth but slow
mouse 1 and 2 (tandem) forward thrust is unaffected but handling is between mouse 1 and 2 in terms of force.
The whole idea for this was to build something that could fly around bigcity and other tight maps at full tilt with tight cornering.

I didn't add it in the video, but you can run at street level without ever hitting a wall once you get used to the controls, but fraps was killing my fps and bi chadsangui. If anyone knows how to get vmf working in 10 or is willing to come down to 9, i really want to test these things out in a race :V
so it only uses thrusters. Im impressed by its speed and handling. not even a fin plane could handle that well in a city
I disagree, any of my fin planes could do the exact same thing. Also that video looks like its speed up quite a bit, unless its on a server with no speed limits.
the segments from 1:04 - 1:14, 1:18-1:21, and 1:31-1:36 were sped up to 1.5x, mostly to match the music a a little better and the original frame rate was horrible. It can go about that fast with the boosters kicked in, but my coding is a little unrefined at best, so that many firing ents and fraps at the same time... my laptop just can't handle it.
Good News! My computer is finally fixed and I can begin posting crap. Nice planes. lets see some more fin stuff.
[editline]03:34PM[/editline]
I know it looks like a piece of crap, but here is one of my planes. This is completely fin stablilized and steered. It uses a propeller (propeller tool, hurf) to propell itself (hurf). This was my first all fin steered plane :P.

This, this is awesome! Made me laugh i love how it looks.
I lol'd when i saw they "corrected" the thread name.
(Can't exactly decipher what someguy is trying to say).
Onemanclan why don't you post some of your fin planes?
I did, first page.

The one flaw i have found with all my fin planes is that i cant figure out how to make one that can fly upside down.

LOL nice pic!! As far as i know all fin planes fly upside down just fine. If the plane is balanced it will work perfectly. the fin doesnt really know if its upside down or not, so it will still fly just fine. If your fin plane is balanced to fly in a perfectly straight line it will do so upside down just the same.
Make the ass or the nose heavier or lighter till it's balanced. Make sure the propeller is on the center of weight vertically as well, or it pulls in and awkward direction.
Note: everything has some drop, but pushing down while inverted should make you rise...
I recommend taking the fighter-jet approach= using two gyroscopes' pitch sensors to partially determine the angle of the dangle (180 to -180 split <#1, facing 90,180,180 welded base-to-base with #2 facing 90,0,180. Weld that to your plane with the nose facing the first gyro> then divided by whats necessary [about 22.5] and adding that to the climb/dive hydraulic distance), + a little tweaking to the divide amount, and BAM auto-straightening plane sexiness.
[gyros should look like this] (1)-||-(2) [and plane facing left]

Yess... right I'll go do that after i decipher whatever you just put
anywhere i can get the full non SVN version of PHX except from Glua.net??? its just that downloading it of glua takes 20 hours.... and i can't wait that long =C
Garrysmod.org? And basically what I said is, to make the fins on your plane adjust to your roll orientation in order to make up for your drop.
I think i found the problem with my planes. I was always having one pair of wings with lift by plane in the center and two in the rear with no lift. However, last night I made a biplane with two sets of lift wings (1 in the back and 1 in the front). I was able to fly this one upside down for a brief period of time. I also noticed with my previous planes that the front was upward in flight.

But are you sure it has the latest version????
anyway has anybody made a succesful water plane without it nose diving in the water???

Im working on that now. Using water sensors and parented props touching water.
airplangs are stupid all about dem karrssss

My friend tried to make a seaplane/flying boat and he got really frustrated. I have yet to make one either.
Well I have quite a few. Some may make you happy, others may not. Like my prototypes. (my version of First of its Kind made by me). All my contraptions have realistic sounds that use pitch. All planes use fin tool and thrusters only for manuvering. All helicopters use thrusters for hovering.
This is my most recent. Based off a helicopter I found when looking for something that could lift objects. It has a manual collective (so you have to increase it and decrease it to put it at the right spot to hover) only because it would never be able to lift anything and fly with an auto. the winch is not shown as it is under the heli.

This one is everyones favourite. The Extra 300. It took me a good 3 days of nonstop building to get this one to work and boy does it fly nice. If i had the performance, I would make a video.

This one is my most used and has to be MY favourite heli. Not because it looks good (which it doesnt really) but how it flies. It uses an auto collective so tis simple to fly and it has a door on the side which makes it easy to get into on a no noclip server.

This was one helicopter that I made for war. I never finished with the weapons but I had advanced hud indicators that targeted players, vehicles, and rockets. It uses manual collective due to lack of knowledge about auto.

This is my hovership. I got the idea from CoD:4 when I saw a bunch of helicopter looking things flying around. It uses the same system as the helis.

Here is a project that I havent finished. The P-51 c Mustang. Excellent design. Uses retractable landing gear just like the real thing.

This was my first helicopter. My prototype. It uses manual collective cause I didnt know how to amke auto at the time.

This one was fun. Didnt take too long to build. It uses the remote control. This RC heli is only half the size of a playermodel.

I got into using only HL2 props and trying to amke it as realistic as possible (note the 4 engines attached to a box which is attached to a bigger box. It's big, slow, and loud but gets attention real quick.

Last but definately not the least, the UAV. I tried to amke it like the ones used nowadays but it didn't replicate right. It flies very nicely and has a camera mounted on the top and bottem (note the balls) to be used as a spy plane.

I hope you enjoyed my aviation contraptions.
Statua Aliquis
Cmon. There's got to be more out there. I wanna see some more flying things. I think someone should make a space shuttle. It's still aviation.

People usually make their own threads, I wouldn't want to post my completed stuff in here considering it would get less traffic and would be drowned by other peoples shit.
Regardless here's some WIP shit,
Beech Baron 58, fin only, flaps/retractable gear, autopilot, heading/alt/speed hold, clickable cockpit,

Finished J-10, fin only, super-maneuverable, flight computer, autopilot, heading/alt/speed hold, AoA limiter.

Uses a special combination of welding and parenting, I parented the aircraft into "chunks" allowing it realistically be damaged despite the fact that it's parented, and still not lag the server to hell.

I never bothered to finish them and have been sitting there for months seeing as how I haven't played gmod in a while, I might release the J-10 as is.

Hmm that reminded me of that Top Gear episode were they turn a robin reliant into a space shuttle...
Anyways I am making a heli but i can't figure out how to make the rotors tilt so that the heli heads forward/backward/left/right. apart from that they all work pretty good, also starting to make a little personal heli

Wow, I was about to ask that then i saw your post. What your thinking of is a swashplate. I have been trying to figure out how to make one for a while. Someone please help :P?
