[QUOTE=Derubermensch;18065097]Wow, I was about to ask that then i saw your post. What your thinking of is a swashplate. I have been trying to figure out how to make one for a while. Someone please help :P?[/QUOTE]
I tried that but physics can only go so far in garrysmod. Unless you use some sort of code to control it, pure physics are next to impossible at this point with all the moving parts. If you do manage to get it to work I'd love to here and see it.
Awesome aircraft guys!
Heres my Hobo Helicopter :D

Its cool to see so many awesome aviation contraptions.
It would be cool if there was a addon with just aviation props. Like rotor heads, individual blades, instruments/controls , engine parts, NOSE CONES (am i the only one sick of using head crab canisters!). Other little things that would make aircraft look awesome.
Even though I'm all for improvising, it would be nice for cosmetics.
That heli is epic man and for the modelpack, I'm planning to make one as soon as I get my hands on a good modelling program.

*derubermensch then had an epiphany* Of course! You can just put control surfaces on the rotors and have a grabber on one end of the helicopter pull it down so the air friction (if ur using fin like me) can push one side forward. And visa versa.

There actually is a aircraft model group. You can get it via Propeller tool SVN. It has wings, rotors, propellers, wings, even engine parts!
Let me get some screens of my friend and my plane.

Awesome! What is the URL?
I've tried making a working, fin-only swashplate helicopter in GMod for some time, and I've made small advancements under the course of one year. Although I do not yet have a working prototype, I think I might finally have figured out how to make the rotor part small enough (Wired motor).
Of course, making helis using fins for hovering isn't possible without the physics module.
I made a Sopwith Camel at some point, that didn't fly but looks hella nice, and I think I made a kind of working copy of a Gee Bee a while ago, but I don't have any pictures of any of them (OS reinstall). May still have the dupes for both of them.

Regardless here's some WIP shit,
Beech Baron 58, fin only, flaps/retractable gear, autopilot, heading/alt/speed hold, clickable cockpit,

Finished J-10, fin only, super-maneuverable, flight computer, autopilot, heading/alt/speed hold, AoA limiter.
[IMG_THUMB]http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii315/edberggonzalez/gm_flatgrass0005-5.jpg[/IMG_THUMB][IMG_THUMB]http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii315/edberggonzalez/gm_flatgrass0006-3.jpg[/IMG_THUMB]
Uses a special combination of welding and parenting, I parented the aircraft into "chunks" allowing it realistically be damaged despite the fact that it's parented, and still not lag the server to hell.
[IMG_THUMB]http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii315/edberggonzalez/gm_flatgrass0007-2.jpg[/IMG_THUMB]
I never bothered to finish them and have been sitting there for months seeing as how I haven't played gmod in a while, I might release the J-10 as is.[/QUOTE]
The baron needs moar Dakka, and a video. The J-10 looks awesome, but doesn't the GPU make it really laggy?
[QUOTE=smokestream8;18092461]Awesome! What is the URL?[/QUOTE]
Lets seeeee........ Uh, the URL is [url]https://opensvn.csie.org/propeller_model_pack[/url] I highly recommend any Garry's Mod aviators download this.

Baron is just a stripped flying airframe atm, I stopped working on it in the middle of writing up the autopilot, I don't remember but I think all that was left was the alt hold. Other then that all it needs is the instruments buttons/controls, interior shit, and the engines.
I would like to see it finsihed sometime. It is remarkable how smooth the airframe is. It looks like a model :v:

[QUOTE=«ƒ»Infested /OE\;17939220]Well I have quite a few. Some may make you happy, others may not. Like my prototypes. (my version of First of its Kind made by me). All my contraptions have realistic sounds that use pitch. All planes use fin tool and thrusters only for manuvering. All helicopters use thrusters for hovering.
This is my most recent. Based off a helicopter I found when looking for something that could lift objects. It has a manual collective (so you have to increase it and decrease it to put it at the right spot to hover) only because it would never be able to lift anything and fly with an auto. the winch is not shown as it is under the heli.
This one is everyones favourite. The Extra 300. It took me a good 3 days of nonstop building to get this one to work and boy does it fly nice. If i had the performance, I would make a video.
This one is my most used and has to be MY favourite heli. Not because it looks good (which it doesnt really) but how it flies. It uses an auto collective so tis simple to fly and it has a door on the side which makes it easy to get into on a no noclip server.
This was one helicopter that I made for war. I never finished with the weapons but I had advanced hud indicators that targeted players, vehicles, and rockets. It uses manual collective due to lack of knowledge about auto.
This is my hovership. I got the idea from CoD:4 when I saw a bunch of helicopter looking things flying around. It uses the same system as the helis.
Here is a project that I havent finished. The P-51 c Mustang. Excellent design. Uses retractable landing gear just like the real thing
This was my first helicopter. My prototype. It uses manual collective cause I didnt know how to amke auto at the time.
This one was fun. Didnt take too long to build. It uses the remote control. This RC heli is only half the size of a playermodel.
I got into using only HL2 props and trying to amke it as realistic as possible (note the 4 engines attached to a box which is attached to a bigger box. It's big, slow, and loud but gets attention real quick.
Last but definately not the least, the UAV. I tried to amke it like the ones used nowadays but it didn't replicate right. It flies very nicely and has a camera mounted on the top and bottem (note the balls) to be used as a spy plane.
I hope you enjoyed my aviation contraptions.

What system do you use for helicopters?
[QUOTE=Balto-the-Wolf-Dog;18109016]

I use 4 thrusters that always point straight down attached to the upper portion of the fusalage. I then use one fixed thruster that points In the direction under the heli to control z movement. The hard part is caloburating the hover thrusters to have the heli hover. This is how my automatic collectve works. For manual, I use the same point down thrusters but are wired to an accumulator chip. That way you can control the z movement. Great for lift helix like my first one. I'm currently working on a swash plate and fin but it's a ottos spazzy.

Please. change the [IMG] tags to either [MEDIA] or [IMG_THUMB].
This seems like the best place to ask, so I will: What does the efficiency of a fin actually mean? Is it like, the percent of the fin's weight lifted per unit of speed or something?

finned swashplate helicopters have been working for quite some time, without the physics module.

well my e2 contains all the programing numbers and shit for the targeting movment and the wirelink for pod controler

And stop quoting the whole thing you fag

Why don't you read the first goddamn thing I posted. People aren't gonna look backwards to the 2nd page to see his shit. Fuck off.

How about instead of transforming this into a giant shitstorm we introduce positive criticism and complements. Or maybe to introduce on of your own creations in the field of flight.
It died before someone brought it back with a stupid request
Yeah and it almost died till you raged about how I
couldn't build however long that was ago. You know how old those are? I built that "shit" before summer on he laggiest pc you'll find. Now that I can build faster I'm gonna post some "shit" that will make you think twice about your thread rape reply. If only you didn't troll this thread would have died an unknown death. By the way. I never said it was the best. I just said it's pretty good. Now flaming stuff that's over a month old.
LOL you sound like your trying to cuss me out using english as a second language and you can't talk shit about trolling and me keeping a thread alive. Someone else bumped it. Fuck you. Complaining that you can't build with a shitty computer is stupid it just means you can't build. Shut the fuck up.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
