For christ's sake. i wish constraints where actually solid, i cant keep my engine weight below 700 kg unfrozen and it outputs even then only 400hp. Is there a parenting stool that actually keeps the constraints (ie rope, axis, sliders) on the parented prop?

Rated disagree because I'm afraid there isn't. :|
Right now the closest thing we have is Polyweld, which doesn't work
I guess Its one of the limitations of the source engine. Its just frustrating that i can (and have) made a go-kart powered by a motor-bike engine that weighs less than 500 KG and can go 40mph, yet in Gary's mod the prop-shaft alone weighs half a tonne and i can barely get 50mph from a V12.
I wonder if (IF) when half life 3 comes out the new source engine will be able to to "solid" constraints cleanly. Even if that's many years into the future, By god the stuff we could do.
Right now the source engine uses the Havok physics engine. The current build doesn't offer solid constraints between models, so I doubt the future iterations of Source will either. With any luck Valve can work some magic and fix the problem, but I'm doubtful.
I doubt they'll fix it. Based off of valve and garrys mod's history, it'll get worse somehow.
Speaking of stupid and unnecessary shit valve and garry do, anyone know how to disable the stupid "pick things up" feature garry added? I'm tired of trying to use smartsnap or push buttons, and end up picking up a parented prop.

That's what that annoying thing is? I was messing with gears and picked one up unknowingly and had no idea what was going on. Made an awful noise, too.
yup, E makes you pick things up. Like we didn't use physguns for that or something.

thanks for that wonderfully-annoying feature, garry, since it works on parented props too, and makes smartsnap a bitch to use.

I haven't play gmod recently but in the update it says "Added sv_playerpickupallowed convar to disable player pickup on USE", so try that.

it works. thanks.
Just a question, how do i apply the physical properties of the jeep/jalopy tire to a wheel?
Just a question, how do i apply the physical properties of the jeep/jalopy tire to a wheel?
Open up console and type ''physprop_material jalopytire'' (without the quotes). After you've done that, select the physical properties tool and use it on the wheels. I recommend that you make a preset for all physprop_materials that you use so you don't need to type the command in the console every time.
cheers, works a treat.
Also, Would anyone be interested in a race (GP_beach circuit)? limit of horsepower, weight limits (min and max) ? it would have to be after the next couple of weeks as I'm doing exams. But when i'm done, getting back into the flow of things would be great.

I would, but if the cars must be engine powered then no because my engines never work well

I was thinking of just using wheel power
Engines would be far to laggy to have a decent race.
then i would like to race :neckbeard:

The body of my mustang is nearly done:

If you need another racer, I'd love to enter. Same problem as Pringles though, so it will either be no engine or some cheap Forcer-engine.
Still trying to make an old-school 1960's firetruck.
I'd race, I'm running out of enthusiasm for just building for the hell of it.
Personally, I'd love to see a race with some oldschool cars. Scratched my current project in hope to find a good car I could eventually race in (hopefully).
Let me upload a picture of how long I got.

holy shit, that's a really awesome Mustang you have there.

Also any ideas on how to reinforce my steering? Works like a charm but when advanced duplicator get hands of it.. it goes really wobbly. Tried with TB's duplicator but that fucks it up even worse.
I use rigid rope suspension instead of ball-sockets and elastic stuff. Experiment a little, one thing i will say is make your chassis light and your wheel heavy. IE, the settings on my little F2 racer): wheels=60 wheel mounts=50 so 4*110=440. the chassis only weighs 150 kg with an "engine" that weighs 100.
That's pretty lightweight. To actually get my wheelbase to stay out of a wobble I have to get it at 200-300 (can use 50-100 but it's pretty wobbly). I'll try to make the wheels heavier since I usually use their default weight.
Also for the love of God if someone actually does make that race, get TB's Duplicator on it. It's a bit like a trivia when I save stuff, it either works better in advanced duplicator or completely fails. Then try with TB's and find it working fine.
cant upload to servers with tb's
Works fine for me. Uploaded a car yesterday to this server. The only thing that happened was that it wasn't owned by me but the world. A little touching here and there and everything worked fine and dandy.
Probably a problem with the server's admin mod.

But damn it took long time to upload. I think it took me 13 minutes to upload my 113 props Ford to it.
Hopefully that race event will have prop limit rules, if everybody will race at once.
And some content...

It looks pretty awesome, in its own special way. It's kind of a mix between a realistic car and something cartoony. That's really all I can say.
And about the prop-limit rule, hopefully there will be one. But again, the cars are paranted so I don't see a big problem.
Turns out my calculations where a little out. 120kph top speed, 40kph cornering, 130kph spin out. I forgot to round a decimal...

Would be nice to get another angle and maybe a different color. Right now it looks almost too smooth and "bubbly".

How on earth is it so smooth?

Holos.
Debug material rarely looks good, you should change it.
