Just want to point out and say that this looks a lot WORSE than I thought it was going to be. I won't give up though. I just need to know how to do lighting properly and I am reading guides...
why's shepard so bleached all of a sudden? he looked neat in the previous pic
also how far away is the lamp from the scene, and did you check the shadow sharpness tutorial i linked?

To answer the first question, I messed around with the lighting, and I forgot what settings I have for the lamps.
Also, I did check out the shadow tutorial, but no matter what lighting I use, the shadows don't appear on the Terminator corpses like I want them to.

Started the lighting all over again... -_-

To achieve the lighting that I had on Shepard, I have one blue lamp on the ground looking up at him from the right, and an Orange lamp that's in the air looking down on him from the left.
That's some major improvement over the days! Keep going. Try applying the same blue lamp you applied on Shepard. on all the other characters in the background from the top left side of the pic.
Some advice, you might want to experiment by adding small orange light bulbs near the grounds with a medium/small radius which can then later to be edited as sources of fire. For example, you can place a small orange/red lamp right behind the guy on the right and one light bulb to the left of the guy on the far left.
In regards to Shepard, I'd say, if you can, try to make his hand more stiff as he points his finger (elbow and shoulder).

OK. I'll try those out later. Thanks!
Here's another shot

I lost the lighting that I had for Shepard in the previous image, but I managed to replicate it the best that I could do. I also put a blue lamp to light up one side of the characters in the background and placed an orange light bulb behind the Chief and Sev to help add a fire effect in Photoshop.
I also took this image as well today, with an added light from the right.

Which version do you guys think it's better? The one above or this one?
I don't know about lighting, but you'll have to do something to work around these FUGLY bumpmaps on Republic Commandos.
I don't know who's responsible, but it just hurts to look at it. it looks like they were made in crazybump. Could've at least applied $halflambert to mask the effect a bit. God.

To be honest, I'm not fond of that part myself. I will try to find a way, though...
OK, I guess I use light bulb for the highlights, but I always have to match the light color with the color in the Color Tool, since if I try to keep it white while trying to hide it, the light goes white.

One more thing, How can I make the bulbs ambient lights and glow in the fog?
Easiest way - completely kill all main light, just leaving self illum textures and small ambient lights stay on.
Give it a slight bloom
overlay resulting picture under something like soft light or screen
Added some lights to help get some glow from the Republic Commandos and Samus.

This is really coming together nicely, and I'm really impressed that your sticking with this one for so long. Most people who come through here don't show much interest in getting feedback and getting better, so massive props to you!

Thanks! I'll be sure to bookmark this thread so that I can look back on it whenever I think of something new.
What else do you think can make it better?
the characters could use some faint rim lighting, eg. sharp outlines created by a light source from behind. it could help them stand out.
i'm not going to tell you precisely how to do it, but try to find a way with a lamp.
I can't really suggest any further improvements but I congratulate your quick progression there, it's getting better and better.
And hey, how's Warzone: Earth coming along, benoski?

Warzone: Earth has been completely changed. It's no longer a comic, but a fanfiction and renamed 'Alliance'. You can check out Alliance related content here.

Probably not good rim lighting though, but it's really hard to get progress done when the whole thing is lagging like fuck from the lighting.
There's a small posing - scene tip from movies.
Generally it's very rare for an actor to look into and face a camera directly. It creates a very odd sensation. Your shephard has the same problem - he's face and his eyes are looking at the camera. Try to make him look more forward imho.

Good call, I love comics but I think it's for the best in this case. Best of luck continuing it, hope you have fun and find an audience!

Yeah, I thought it was. I'll continue it eventually.

A bit too late, considering that I have most of the lighting already done, but I'll keep that tutorial in mind for next time.
Anyone got any more ideas? Or do you guys think it's ready to be edited?
I think it's pretty good. From this point on you could take the picture with superdof, play around with the blur size and distance, and take a couple of pictures with no superdof. After that you can edit it a little in photoshop or GIMP.

I am thinking of using SuperDOF, but I want all the characters to be visible in the final render.

I still recommend some dust/smoke near the bottom of the ground really.
I am thinking of using SuperDOF, but I want all the characters to be visible in the final render.
For that, you need to take a series of sdof shots, at different render distances, then stich the characters from the result.

Any idea on how I do that in-game?
Any idea on how I do that in-game?
Good question, there exists a so called "advanced particle controller" tool which you can get here:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=242776816
select that tool under tools in Q menu and select "half life 2 episode 2" and search your way through particle effects like dust or snow. To spawn these particle effects you first will need to spawn a random prop and click with the tool on that prop while selecting some effect.

I have that, and I can say that you can spawn an effect without a prop by right clicking.
