attack on titan is some terrible bullshit
[editline]16th March 2015[/editline]
so is titanfall so I guess you have a point
IMO Titanfall>AoT but that's just me and I know you guys hate the ever loving fuck out of anime.
Like I said to Bear the other day, it's a game you play in little bursts before you delete it because holy fuck it's 70gb with all the DLC.
i watched attack on titan, the entire first season and other than the animation it's pretty bad, the writing is euuuugh.
i haven't seen attack on titan but all anyone seems to talk about with it is that the basic premise is cool and that the budget completely ran out mid-season which leads me to think it MIGHT actually be shitty?
it's animation is 'good' but the writing is really hammy and reeks of anime cliche.

cowboy bebop best anime

Tell me the two aren't similar.
And tell me jumpy flashy parkour stuff isn't even remotely anime.
EVRYTHING IS LIKE ANIMR
it's animation is 'good'

Didn't they run out of money at one point and it basically turned into a text adventure.
It's a common occurrence in many animation studios, more-so in Japan then in the states as far as I know. It's less about money then it is about time constraints during production. The first few episodes usually have the most time spent on the animation because they need to hook you so that you'll watch the rest of the series.
tbh even the first few episodes of attack on titan didn't have much going for them.

I always thought the way the military works in it is really stupid, like instead of using say artillery or heavy hitting fire-arms they use this weird maneuver only few of them can master and ends up getting most of them killed.
also they got the weird anime cliche where they're just like "I'm so spooked I'm just going to stand here and watch all my section members get killed while I ponder the meaning of life".
Well if you watched the show or read the manga you'd know it's because there's a very specific way to kill them.
[sp] You have to slice at the nape of their neck [/sp]
[editline]16th March 2015[/editline]
Also, it's kind of a plot point that the military/government is corrupt and doesn't give two shits about the lesser people.

This, however, I agree with.
Yeah but if you blow up the whole fucking torso and head with say a howitzer there's no neck for them to function.
Also I said I watched the first season :v:
They heal over time unless killed in that way.
That makes no sense if the whole entire upper body is blown the fuck up, it's the same effect as cutting it. also the reason why titans function is cos they got a human inside their neck, if you kill the human inside by for instance blowing it the fuck up it's still going to kill the titan, anything less is just chalked up to plot holes and bad writing.
the r&d people should spend less time working on dumb sword rail thing and more time on big fucking emplacements and small-arms infantry can use that has an actual effect.
Like thinking realistically, a WW1 era HMG for instance a maxim if aimed correctly and fired enough will kill a titan. a .303 round isn't a pebble you know and a maxim can fire 500 of them per minute.
but none of this matters because AoT has terrible writing, the manga and the anime, just the manga is a little better.

Animation-wise, there's actually allot going on in the first episodes. Lots of important characters are drawn completely different from how they will eventually show up (younger child to full gear). Many backdrops of the city from street level really don't get shown much light in future episodes, and aside from the first appearances of the titans, there's very little CG/rotoscoping going on.
The cliches are a bit much for me though. I'm glad that it tries to have quiet and emotional moments, but they're terribly paced.
"We have to get a move on! The Titans are gonna fuck out literal shit!"
"*crying* Why do we keep fighting?"
Followed by a 5 minute monologue that shoves the loose themes of the show in your face.
It works because ANIME WEABOO MAGICKS
Also, there's a whole thing only explored in the manga where it turns out the guys in charge of the humans don't give a filthy fuck about fighting the titans, they're more concerned with fighting other humans who are a direct threat to their power (as opposed to the titans, who just want to stomp through everything; humans can revolt and attempt to usurp power, etc)
I'm not saying it's good writing, I'm just saying there's an explanation for your grievances, however full of anime weaboo magicks it may be.
Japan has a horrible perception of how soldiers function, even lowly conscripts.
Metal Gear has the same problem.
And the fetishization of the samurai that roots from ww2 propaganda doesn't help
Metal Gear doesn't focus on the grunts because it's an over the top character driven drama. Not a realistic depiction of war.
Now THAT I agree with.
There's a lot of stupid bullshit that skinny ol' me at home, untrained as I am, can find fault with, never mind trained soldiers. 99.9% of the time it's to accentuate the hero's skills, when really it turns out that all the enemies are just mind bogglingly retarded.

I'm sure kojima would disagree, considering how much he raves on about his good ol story.
[editline]17th March 2015[/editline]
I mean he thinks he's in the same league as Vince Gilligan :v: no joke.
japanese media is weird, nothing they put out can make me suspend my disbelief for a nanosecond, and meanwhile i eat Battletech, Warhammer and other sorts of "western" scifi/science fantasy with certain ridiculous elements like a madman
maybe one day i'll be able to pinpoint what makes anime etc so unappealing to me, but as of yet i haven't been able to put my finger on it
we have a 100% homemade background banner, your Gundams are invalid

You wanna know the real reason why anime is so unappealing?
The die hard fans are toxic.

Don't forget Fist Of The North Star and Akira.

No love for JoJo?
No love for JoJo?
That too.
oh now i finally realized it
i've stayed away from most anime/manga because the show/comic names are fucking stupid, those always put me off regardless of genre
Most of the ideas in Anime I've seen have been fucking stupid both plot wise and design.
Most of the ideas in Anime I've seen have been fucking stupid both plot wise and design.
Only Anime I've seen is Initial D and only the parts where the guy drives a shitty car down a fucking hill against as slightly less shitty car.
