[B]Day 2 of Catgirls[/B] After somehow losing my save data and clicking through the first day’s dialogue faster than a metal drummer hammers his kick pedals, we’re back to where we were when we left off. I’ve got my edgelord music in the background and enough whiskey to make a hardboiled detective blush, so let’s rock. I also briefly turned on the voice acting because I was curious and I swear to god Chocolate and Vanilla are voiced by the same person. Not that I expected high quality production value in a game about barely legal nekos, but whatever. Finally got ahold of my sister the next day. She refuses to take them back, wanting to “respect their wishes”. She also said something about “whispering this morning’s sweet nothings to your little sister”, which I can only assume is really fucking creepy. One shower later… The bitch hangs up and with it saves me a sizeable chunk of my Christmas spending budget (yay, more whiskey!), leaving me alone with the cats. Vanilla’s licking ketchup off of Chocolate’s face for some strange reason, and we share an uncomfortable breakfast filled with implications about my sexuality. Naturally, they’re drinking all my milk (and they can have it—I’m not a fan of white milk, immersion fucking ruined). More exposition on the nature of catgirls. More harping on the “catgirls go home” subplot that obviously won’t go anywhere but continues to subject me to what amounts to puppy dog eyes from Chocolate and passive aggressive bullshit from the blue one. Suddenly, there’s a knock at the door. Could it be a real human bean? Sadly it’s just the IKEA girl bringing me a bunch of boxes, apparently more than I should be receiving. But the real question is…do the extra boxes have catgirls in them? Also, apparently my last name is Minaduki. Hehehe…duki. All of these boxes are apparently the same size. Oh god, I know where this is going. Oh, they actually had dining utensils in them, what a pleasant surprise. No more cats. Not yet at least. And Chocolate has a constant need for approval from Master, because of course she does. Vanilla continues to be kinda-sorta passive in the background. They did help with moving the mountain of boxes, so they’re not entirely useless. Deep existential thoughts on how humans are confusing to cats follows, because this is what I play VNs for. Wondering what catgirls feel when I tell them to fuck off. Commercial break. What follows this break is what amounts to a conflict of choice between letting the irritating felinids stay and having them be depressed or handing them off to my bitch sister and letting them be her problem. Look, I know it’s going to end with the cats at my house, because they’re on the fucking cover of the game and it’s that kind of game, so can we open the goddamn bakery so I can be the asshole pastry shop manager I actually started playing this game to be? Also, let me just mention that at no point up to now (~45 minutes in) have I had any kind of choice to make in this game. Every other VN I’ve played through let me choose what to say to the other characters, even when it didn’t matter. What gives here? Is it really just a click-through novel with pictures? I hope I get to actually PLAY this game at some point. Flashback to when the Duki siblings picked up the stray catgirls on the side of the road. At this point they weren’t even old enough to be clingy irritants, so I’m just going to chalk this up to some prick suddenly realizing catgirls are more work than none at all and being too fucking lazy to return them to the shelter. Cringey VN or no, that’s still a colossal dick move. Catgirls are people, too. Exposition exposition exposition, telling the main character all these things about my past even though they should already know this—typical anime stuff. For the briefest of moments, it sounds like my character wanted to bang Chocolate. Maybe I’m reading too much into what he’s saying. Also, apparently it was my sister’s fault the cats ended up at my place; she couldn’t come with me to generictown so she made the cats go instead. Is it weird this sounds like an incest subplot to me? Kashou finally lets the catgirls stay with him just as the heavy metal part of my playlist starts kicking in. Well at least something good happened. Also, we go back to the store from before and buy shampoo, because symbolism. Suddenly there’s…an intro sequence!? Almost an hour into the game and suddenly there’s a fucking intro!? I had to laugh though, because it was being played over Show Me What You Got by Powerman 5000, which is ridiculously unfitting for the style they were going for, but it’s better than sugary sweet anime pop, I guess. And if this intro sequence is to be believed, there’s a good dozen catgirls in this game, including Chocolate and Vanilla. Oh fuck.
