I don't mind snow, but not near the Arctic Circle.
TPA Colonel Nikolai Lovejoy, the acting commander of Tbonian forces in Greenland, released a statement today regarding factions moving into Greenland: "Their motives unknown, their timing poor, their equipment will fail them. Greenland can be a very cold place, especially in the winter. Wouldn't they rather be at home with their loved ones? It would be terrible for these young men to not be home for the holidays, their family worrying about General Winter. I hope these companies have the decency to leave Greenland, or at least give their employees proper equipment to survive." Reports of military transport aircraft moving over the arctic circle have been coming in from various vessels, but nothing is confirmed.
Where'd ya find them fine-ass battleships?
Tbonian planes have been spotted headed towards Greenland, flights of 15 or more aircraft have gone in and out at random intervals during the daytime.
Ok, been a while since I've posted something (mostly thanks to MGS V), but I'm still fighting. This post will be following on events set back 6 months ago (here and here to be exact)
En-route to Al-Kawm – 25 Kms to Designated LZ.

Archangel: “Valkyrie-01, Arklight’s available on Comms for mission briefing with Task Forces Ghost and Venom.” Natalie Harper: “Copy that Archangel. John Davidson (Comm): “Go Ghost”. Ghost: “Arclight’s ready to go over the Intel.” Davidson (Comm): “10-4.” Ghost: “OK. Paul, we’re ready.” Paul Murphy (Comm): “Copy Ghost. Ok, both of you will need to grab your iDroids, and we’ll go through with what we know.”

(Ghost grabs his iDroid and powers it up. Davidson does the same in the V-22 Osprey)

Paul (Comm): “6 months ago, Task Force: Kappa was ambushed in Abu-Kamal, and was effectively rendered combat-ineffective – with only one survivor. He was then taken captive by the AWA forces and managed to get him out to his current location in Al-Kawm. Our survivor is held there alongside two members of the Syrian Army. Our current intel suggests that they have been to hell and back due to the AWA’s commander in that region. Intel that Trinity Corp. gathered for us is still ok in regards to the location and the strength of their forces, but it has been six months, so that could have changed. This is the reason why we are sending in Ghost Pack and Task Force: Venom. For this mission. Ghost Pack will be acting as a reserve unit and also perform overwatch duties, while Venom has the tough job of finding where the POWs are, and getting them out of there alive.” (Davidson flicks through from the AO map to the VI images) Paul (Comm): “Be advised, through a request from us to Interpol, we have been able to figure out their commander there. We only know him as Kadafi, but he already has a bit of a reputation in both Syria and Iraq, especially in Iraq with his successful attacks against Coalition Forces during the ongoing Insurgency, including our own forces. We were just never able to ID who the hell was pulling off the attacks. Thanks to the helmet cams on the dead members of Kappa, we were able to find out who it is now. A true sadist if I ever heard of one, but that may not be a problem for long.” Davidson: “So, what exactly is the ROE for this one?” Paul (Comm): This op’s parameters are this for Ghost Pack and Task Force: Venom. If you happen to see Kadafi, confirm the ID and have a clean shot, then take it. Otherwise, don’t waste time on finding him. The Priority is to find and get the POWs out of there. Anyone who is seen armed and wear combat gear in that town is hostile. How you take care of them is up to you.” Davidson: “And what would happen if there happen to be a Syrian Army Platoon in the area, or civilians for that matter?” Paul (Comm): “Due to how much firepower the AWA have, most of the Syrian Army has been forced back to defend Damascus. And as for Al-Kawm, it was evacuated and abandoned by the Syrian Army during the early offensives by the AWA. As for the citizens, they either abandoned the town with the armed forces, joined the AWA when they arrived, or are now in mass graves there – meaning you guys are weapons free once you hit the ground there. Ghost (Comms): “Copy all, Arclight.” Paul (Comm): “Bring them home boys, Arclight out.” (Davidson passes the iDroid to another member of Venom)

Ghost (Comm): “Do you think we’ve got a chance of pulling this off without giving us away out there John?” Davidson: “Once we hit the ground, I’ll have my boys equip their suppressors and we’ll put through the request to Intel Division to provide us some latest images of the town, particularly of enemy locations.” Ghost (Comm): “Roger that Cobra. Hey, If you pull with having your cover blown, drinks are on me and my boys.” Cobra: “You’re on mate. See you down there.” (Cobra shuts his radio down, and turns to Task Force: Venom)

Cobra: “Ok boys, here’s the game plan. This is a POW rescue. I’m having the iDroid passed around showing the VI on the rescue targets, two of which are members of the Syrian Army, with the third on our missing operative from Task Force: Kappa. Both Ghost Pack and our unit are deployed for this one. Task Force: Ghost’s job is to watch over us while we go in to Al-Kawm and find the three POWs.” (Whilst speaking, Davidson moves to the back of the Osprey) Cobra: “Be advised, one of the images shows someone wearing a red beret. He is known as Kadafi to the Intel Division and is the one responsible for bringing our mission operative to the town. He’s the commander of the AWA forces where were are striking today.” Canadian TF: Venom Operative: “So, we have free dibs at getting this son of a bitch boss?”

Cobra: “The ROE for this op is that the POWs are the priority for this mission. If we have eyes on Kadafi, confirmed it’s him and we have a clean shot on him, then we take it, but otherwise, we don’t waste our time finding him. As for everyone else in town: crew expendable.” Russian TF: Venom Operative: “And that includes the citizens and Syrian Army troops?” Cobra: “Not a chance. Al-Kawm was abandoned by the Syrian Army during the early offensives by the AWA, as well as any civilians who evacuated with the Army. Anyone that stayed behind are either now members of the AWA or are in mass graves now – weapons free across the board.” (Once reaching the back, Cobra turns to face the crew)

Cobra: “So here’s the play for us guys; we land, discuss the game plan with Ghost Pack, infiltrate the town, find our POWs, and get out before our cover’s blown. Simple enough?” TF: Venom: “Sir, yes sir!” Cobra: “And as usual guys. We do our job right and come home in one piece. Oh, and one other thing, if we can pull this off without being detected, Ghost and his boys are buying. Keep that in mind.” Blackforce Air Crew: “One minute to LZ!” Cobra: “OK, Task Force: Venom. Game faces! Go to Red!”
Say hello to Major John 'Cobra' Davidson guys. A big thank you to FT for making Davidson exists I did have a few more images for this, but this was starting to become a big pain in my ass for working on the images, and also Photoshop crashed whilst making one image, so what you see is what you get.
Wasn't there something in the rules about not just stealing or ripping off characters from other forms of media?
2. Faction Uniqueness Factions must be unique to the player that creates them. This is done via creating your own models, reskinning existing models, or hacking together existing models to use in Garry's Mod. Players are not allowed to use already established factions, real or fictional, as their faction (Such as attempting to play as the United States, Mann Co., Belltower from Deus Ex, etc.) This DEFINITELY includes just using US Marines models that are unmodified.
The rule explicitly mentions factions but I'd think it should extend to characters as well. I don't think anyone gives a damn if your character looks like an existing character or just uses their face mesh (because there only so many head models, we understand that), just as long as that character isn't straight up stolen from another form of media. I don't really care if he looks or acts like Venom Snake, just don't be so lazy as to call him Venom Snake as well.
just call him major bellend or something, it'd be better than literally venom snake :v:
Yeah there's been a huge arguement about that subject before, so we made a rule against it in one of the threads. I don't think it was ever put up because the OP borked or something.
;49097640']just call him major bellend or something, it'd be better than literally venom snake :v:
And if I did that, then it defeats the purpose of the name for Task Force: Venom, his strike team. Kali, to help explain a few things here. I came up with the idea for using Big Boss's head being hacked onto one of my troops about six months ago, because at the time, I had thought that Big Boss's call sign for TPP was Venom Snake (until 2 months ago). As for his status as a unique character, his original training was in the Green Berets, but stayed there until 2000, before Davidson signed up with Blackforce. If everyone is going to be worried that Davidson will be heavily like Big Boss or Venom Snake, that will not be happening at all. The only similarities that I have used is just the name - nothing more.
You could just call it something else and change his call sign so you're not just ripping off MGSV. If I made a character who wore Spartan-esque armor and called him Master Chief then I'd fully expect everyone to give me shit for ripping off Halo, even if he didn't act like him. You've got a character who looks like Venom Snake, and you're calling him Venom snake. Thus, we're giving you shit for it, because it's against the rules.
Ah. Now I see where your going. Ok, I'll see what I can come up with.
Thus, we're giving you shit for it, because it's against the rules.
I feel like I ought to say this. Giving someone shit for making a mistake because a rule wasn't clear is not acceptable, nor does it make it OK.
In Kali's defense, Kommandant haven't gotten any shit for it. He was called out on it. If you even read what has been said there's haven't really been anything but valid arguements from Kali. I don't know wheter you're just putting your point out the wrong way or thinking what Kali does is giving someone shit.
Just putting it out there, incase anyone gets the wrong idea.
Ok, Given what had happened earlier, I've changed the character's name to John 'Cobra' Davidson. Also, I've fixed up the post to help clean up the issue. Hope this helps.
So uh Lucky, whatever happened to those info boxes on the wiki? I recall you saying they had to be removed yet some factions on the page still have them?
What was the problem with them?
Today, Titan Solutions PMC has become an alliance of the Trinity Corporation. The day started off with Senator Jacobs, Chairman of Trinity, landing at Titan owned Airstrip.
What was the problem with them?
I don't remember what he said exactly aside from something about compatibility with mobile devices, as such many of the factions are now without their infoboxes while those which were recently made has fully working info boxes.
Yeah Wikia force updated the infobox templates to the mobile-friendly ones, so any page made after that change will have the new ones and any made before still have the older broken ones. The only thing I can think of is to re-insert all the info boxes onto all the pages that use them. The other thing is the documentation of the new info boxes is shoddier than the Valve wiki, and I'm not an HTML/CSS coder so I don't know enough to fix them. Edit: I may or may not have fixed them. Check the faction page here and see if it shows the info box
You've done a pretty damn good job mate!
Yeah it works for me, all pages (or at least all pages that I know should have a box).
All the active faction pages are the ones that should be fixed/working. I had to go through and manually transcribe the old info to the new boxes, so if you want to save me the trouble cut all the info out of the current box if it's broken, then add the "infobox faction" infobox to it and fill out the information. In order: First ~ Founded: Second ~ Size: Third ~ Motto: Fourth ~ Headquarters: Fifth ~ Known Engagements Sixth ~ Alternate Names Seventh ~ Leaders Eighth ~ Faction Owner If you guys want to add another kind of line to the info box, let FT know and we'll vote by community on it
Why on earth would we vote on something like that? If you want don't want to reveal much information about your faction then you simply don't, thats how it's always been.
Which is why you just put something like "Unknown" in it. This is how the new info box templates work, it doesn't let you decide anything like the old ones did, which is why they're really dumb. If we COULD go back, we would, but Wikia completely removed all functionality for the old info boxes, so now even if you script the HTML into it, it won't work because they re-wrote the infobox plugin for the mobile-friendly bullshit. Who the hell even browses Wikia on a mobile? It's got mile-long page turning ads, pop ups, redirects, etc. It's a logistical nightmare.
So what will the box look like for our characters that we have created? Not pushing or anything, but curious
I was going to make one for characters as well. I don't know what kind of information should be in it, but if you guys have any suggestions on what you want in the character info boxes, let me know and I'll add them in.
Name, Nickname(s), age (w/ dob), nationality/ethnicity, affiliations, etc typical shit in other words
I think I got it working: [t]https://i.gyazo.com/5ce6eb7fb8fbfb09fc56b89f13bcfbb7.png[/t][t]https://i.gyazo.com/607be04f4eb4cd2120f1686b3569f793.png[/t][t]https://i.gyazo.com/8c008f1e9fc8e156a3924ee97e85f246.png[/t] If you don't want a particular piece of information, just leave it blank and it won't appear on the page. Going to do one for vehicles and bases, and I think that should cover it.
I think for characters, would it be more preferable to show their status, that is, whether they are alive or deceased, along with their role/s in their faction? The reason I ask of this is I know that Trinity does have a few members that are dead and that they may have a fair bit of history with the faction that they worked with. As for their role/s, I'm not sure if this applys to others, but a couple of my characters do have multiple roles in Blackforce (e.g. Steven 'Ghost' Edwards is not only the commander of TF: Ghost, but he's also a marksman and a combat instructor)
