Just been busy with stuff.
I would join but the tank model I'm trying to compile won't compile

I've been a bit busy, but I did attack... just no one cared.
nvm
Soon my brothers and sisters.
I shall be back near the godly machine that is A PC once again. Approximately 2 weeks. 😁
I'm still here as well. I'm currently on a contract to develop for a game we're putting on Steam so I've been busy with that. If you have something you want on the map, here's the only requirement I have for photos: host them on the Wiki.
The reason for this is because the wiki has unlimited file sizes/bandwidth so you don't have to worry about your free DropBox account nerfing your links because you went over 2GB or because you had too many views. I've been mirroring all the pics currently marked on the map to the wiki, so if you want to make the transition easier put it on the wiki before you send it my way.
I also am going to add FT as an editor to the map since he's the GM once he sends me his Google account email.
The VDF is getting a complete model overhaul so there's that.
I'm still active, but just burned out at the moment with Gmod. Also, I've been planning some things with FT that will come into effect sometime soon.

Would it be against the rules for me to use the GDI vehicles from Tiberian Sun in my faction? I converted them from Renegade X and I really don't want to go find different models and convert them
Here is a pic

I'm not too fond of mechs and big floating stuff myself, but if everyone is alright with it then I don't see a problem.
An appearance of armored mechanized walking gun systems with inopportune gun placements, for it will stand tall only to fall against well hidden anti tank systems and tanks.
:snip:
what
Hes probably saying that the Titan is basically a 25 foot tall Abrams and that I'm going to take heavy losses due to how tall it is
As long as you're prepared to face the massive impracticality and tactical downsides of using giant mechs, I don't have a problem. I'll try digging up the post I wrote on that very subject.
Plus, you'd need to reskin them instead of using them as they are.

Yeah, I know they're very large and the legs are susceptible to C4 and Rocket Fire. Plus they'd be very hard to deploy since they can't be airlifted via Chinook. The Hover MLRS would be easier to deploy, but has very light armor and probably wouldn't win a 1v1 fight against an Abrams or Leopard. Most likely I'd only be able to deploy 2-3 Titans per battle and pull them out if they are taking too much fire.
I found the post I made about it. It was originally about gigantic skyscraper-height mechs, but a lot of these points still apply to smaller ones.
I have some points to raise about mechs that i'm pretty certain nobody will take into account but anyone who is actually seriously considering using mechs should maybe give these some thought:
Mechs are, at best, a slightly better tank that is far more expensive and easier to shoot.
The technology seems to have sprung out of nowhere overnight so it's best to assume they're going to be plagued with problems and horribly unreliable (Like Tbone's thing). Smaller mechs would have less armor due to size and weight restrictions (aka, a small mech wouldn't be able to carry 50 tons of armor), and bigger mechs with more armor would be plagued with problems pertaining to weight, size, and maneuverability.
It would be able to go places that a tank couldn't, but at the same time it would have MUCH less range as far as fuel is concerned, present a far bigger and taller target with plenty of weak spots (the joints), and it would be absolutely useless without infantry support. Depending on size and weight, terrain is also much more of a problem, and it would get stuck more easily in mud and fighting on rooftops in a city is pretty much out of the question unless they want to get stuck in a building.
It would be somewhat useful in urban environments as long as the operator is careful not to get it stuck, but in the countryside where there's less cover and wider ranges to cover then it would be fucked with or without infantry support. If a mech's guns are in the hands and if you see the head coming over a hill then any tanks or infantry within range can just pepper it with HEAT rounds and ATGMs before the mech's arms clear the hill to be able to return fire. Same also applies to any buildings or cover that it can be seen over, a mech is a lot harder to conceal than a tank.
Most mechs also seem to only be crewed by one man. In a tank, this is a HORRIBLE idea, as the one man has to drive, aim, shoot, and also be on the lookout for opponents, the same applies to a mech, although this is less of a problem with enough infantry support or with other mechs supporting it.
I keep saying 'infantry support' so i'll clarify what i mean. Tanks and mechs are much alike, and tanks are supported by infantry so that enemy soldiers with ATGMs and RPG's don't flank them and shoot them in the ass. This is going to be much more of a problem for a vehicle with a single crewman, so expect high-tech mechs to get kerb stomped even by the most untrained infantry with rocket launchers in urban environments. This kind of thing happens in Syria all the time, so it's definitely a thing to be aware of.
As far as mech vs tank combat goes, it depends on the environment. In rural countrysides a mech is essentially useless as it would have lots of trouble finding any cover, whereas tanks can simply hide in indents in the ground and be mostly concealed. In urban environments, a mech would have a slight upper hand over tanks due to the mobility, but it really depends on who sees who first and the amount of infantry around.
As far as how this pertains to posing stuff if you plan to use mechs goes, just don't pose mechs as unstoppable killing machines destroying everything and wrecking shit, maybe pose them breaking down and experiencing issues/getting stuck to show they're NOT unstoppable, and pose them with infantry escorts as much as possible.
tl:dr just use tanks instead
The point about mechs with guns in their hands is especially pertinent to that one mech in the middle with gatling guns for hands. Chest-high walls between it and the enemy would render it helpless.

Well it has Arms to help shoot over cover and fires high-caliber rounds and is more of a "power suit" than a full on mech. The whole cover problem is also a problem for a Humvee or any vehicle armed with a machine gun for that matter.
It's really not. Have you ever looked at a Humvee?
Humvees and most other vehicles armed with machine guns tend to mount them on the roof. At the highest point. They can be fired from a concealed position (such as behind a hill or wall) without exposing any of the actual vehicle itself.
The articulation on that suit (or rather, the lack of) would make it a challenge if not impossible for it to raise its arms above its head or even level with the viewport. That'd mean that at least the upper third of the suit would need to be above cover to fire its weapons.
Only thing I can see the Titan being helpful for is probably long range fire support or maybe a forward observation vehicle.
Hmmmm. Thinking about it, would the Tick Tank be better?

Alright so, I have two things to say here.
1. You can't form entirely new nations without consulting me first. I know we have Tbonia already, and that we have a "you can't form new nations from existing nations" sort-of rule going around, but he was here long before that rule ever came into fruition and I don't believe in that becoming retroactive.
2. Your territory is just unacceptable. It's not because it's big, because I'm totally not one to talk in that regard, but you're taking up space from several nations, man.

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware. I'll just remove this temporaly then. Thanks for the heads up, anyway.
No worries, just be sure to consult with the OP if you feel like you might be breaking the rules, or if you aren't sure with doing something.
"An invasion? During the winter? You expect us to gather up our forces and lead an invasion against one of the most powerful armies in the world, during one of it's harshest winters? Adam, trying to invade Russia during the winter is perhaps the biggest tactical mistake you could ever do. It didn't work for Napoleon, it didn't work for the Wehrmacht, and it certainly won't work for us."
WHAT THE TBONIANS DO NOT REALIZE IS THAT WE DON'T FIGHT WITH JUST MEAGER BULLETS AND BOMBS. I PLAN ON AUTHORIZING ALL WEAPONS WE HAVE FOR THIS INVASION, SO EVEN IF WE LOSE, TBONIA WILL NEVER RECOVER FROM THE DAMAGE WE WILL DO. AS FOR THE WINTER, I HAVE A RATHER SPECIAL PLAN FOR THAT."
Ok, these stupid models are being too much of a pain in the butt to use. I'm just gonna rip the conventional stuff from Renegade X and use that
