Trying to get good with sfm, can I/how do I get gmod soft lamp style shadows?

I think in SFM there's settings under the lamp for the intensity, which is basically how soft or sharp the shadow is. Someone who uses SFM will surely point the correct setting thing out here for you.

I'm kind of happy with this promo shot I did for the MGMKII, esp. considering it was mostly physgun work on a small model. I suppose it's worth posting here.

Use the Radius setting of the light.
I usually go with extremely sharp shadows and then use radius to get the natural look.

Keep practicing and use models that are easier to pose.

That's beautiful!Good work man!I am curious:where did you get that road sign and those railroad props?
I am curious:where did you get that road sign and those railroad props?
Made them myself using Sprops and material tool

Edit: Totally forgot to add that Railway crossing barriers are from TheMask's scenebuild megapack. Crossing warning lights are from Ron's 2ft trackpack.

Is there a trick to make radius work? I'm moving the slider and it's not doing anything.

Like literally nothing.

Radius in the sfm applies as a post effect much like motion blur and depth of field. It cannot be seen in the motion editor.

Oh wow, righto then. So you just have to guess then?
Oh wow, righto then. So you just have to guess then?
Pretty much.
Personally I don't use radius save for very rare occasion so I cannot assist too much further with its use.

Yes and no. You can go into the clip editor (F2) and it'll apply some of the post processing effects including radius. But you'll first have to randomly apply a certain amount of radius.
