Was it worth the 8k of mangled metal?
I'll dump some weird stuff I've been doing while playing around with props and the stacker tool today. Been a long time since I've posted anything around here, but I liked this one well enough to share it Nowhere near as good as the folks around here but I'm starting to have fun with gmod again and a lot of you guys inspire me to keep at it.
[t]http://i.cubeupload.com/eNlCYB.jpg[/t] Felt like screwing around and actually got an idea, again. That's two in a short time, and probably a record for me.

really old pic but thought id post it anyway, inspired by this scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRUuycF5FTU

So I in my previous pic I ran into the ground issue which I'm sure many of you scene builders know about - forming continuous ground that is high in quality and that looks good is just near impossible right now. So I built a tool overnight that gives me full control over a material's textures. Here's a van positioned on a ground patch. As you can see (Sorry Mask :P) the bump map is terrible, and is not consistent with the van's textures: [t]https://picload.org/image/rgdocwdr/gm_black_v20328.jpg[/t] So with a click of a button (and hours of behind the scenes coding :v:) I can copy a texture of any given material and use THAT as a bump map: [t]https://picload.org/image/rgdocwda/gm_black_v20329.jpg[/t] Of course I can apply it to any model I want, the van for example, give it a look of an old wreck: [t]https://picload.org/image/rgdocwdl/gm_black_v20330.jpg[/t] I can also change the basetexture of any model while keeping the previous bumpmap: [t]https://picload.org/image/rgdocwdi/gm_black_v20331.jpg[/t] And in case it's not detailed enough, I can change its matrix: [t]https://picload.org/image/rgdocwdw/gm_black_v20332.jpg[/t] And in case even that isn't HD enough: [t]https://picload.org/image/rgdocwar/gm_black_v20333.jpg[/t] If anyone is interested in this, and wants to test, let me know
This makes me think that someone should make the stacker tool work with effects. It's a pain in the ass to simulate continuous terrain with Norpo's ground models.
the bump map is terrible
is all good. it's lod mountains anyways to fill nature related backgrounds. so these are not meant to be put in the foreground. but good work mate!

Here's a link: http://sfmlab.com/item/1338/ If anyone's interested, here's the video I made using them: And finally, since this is a picture thread after all, here's one: [t]http://puu.sh/oubBr/be44a361c7.jpg[/t]
Wait, will these be usable in Gmod? Also, amazing video there, dayum
Yea they are usable in gmod
Are they? I didn't give them collision meshes O.o
You can spawn them in gmod as effects if they don't have collision meshes. Most of the scenebuilding props we have already are just effects.
Which is way more nice when scenebuilding because you don't have to nocollide everything like there's no tomorrow.
Actually having ideas to pose involving the factions I whipped up for IW when that was still a thing is pretty cool. Original Poster Size
This makes me think that someone should make the stacker tool work with effects. Here I made a thread with a download link: https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1516146
