posing done for now, time to start lighting
Great pic, but lighting is screwed up. No shadows and all. Could actually be fixed with some good photoshopping. Use lamps with lights.
did you even read his post

Those shadows look so bad

Scrolled too fast, see it now. I even quoted it hah.
I really REALLY wanted to get those weird hl2 Japanese arcade models to look nice, but their weird proportions make it so hard.
Ah well I tried.
those things are seriously lacking shaders
thats some hl1 quality right there
Yeah the models are pretty shit-house.
I don't think anybody could get them to work except for maybe in a more comedic setting

Finally decided to try out gm_black_v3 and I don't know what to do. Everything is so dark and kept losing track of stuff, so I got rid of fog, put lamps everywhere and I don't even know how to change the ground color :(
Anyone have a link for guides for complete idiots?
So here's v2 of the same poster "Mobile Suit Coastal Defense," but rendered it in image sequence to keeps some bloom and illuminating effects from the Guncannon. Digging the BF4 models that I got, amazed that they go well with the mech's and the hovertank's cartoon-ish shading.

The one thing that's bugging me(but probably not a big issue) is that there doesn't seem to be a better way to make the soldiers more visible without having to bring them forward or moving the camera all the way to the back of the map and adjusting DoF. Is there a way to make the soldiers a bit easier to see without moving them or making total changes in the shot?

Type mat_fullbright 1 (0 to turn it off) in console to light up everything without lamps. Turn it off when applying actual lighting.
To change ground color, pick color tool and simply use it on ground.

First scenebuild ever. It sucks, I know.
I didn't have a clear vision, considering I don't know what props I have. I recently deleted 60 GBs worth to essentially start over but kept TheMask scenebuild pack.
That's a mix of two different model styles, the trees are really low poly and so are the mountains while the flower is super detailed. I'd try and keep it to one style per picture

The reason they are hard to notice is because there's a complicated background right behind them with contrast and blacks the same as them, and also their shape really 'mixes' with the trees shapes. Positioning the soldier on the rooftop of one of those buildings, or even raising them from the trees and putting them behind bricks, not windows, is going to really help you with that

Thanks for the tips! Now it's not bugging me as much. It looks so much better now with the proper setup, though the trees being part of the map is a problem. So I made it that the gun barrels are through the leaves like in some Vietnam jungle warfare pics.
So I made it that the gun barrels are through the leaves like in some Vietnam jungle warfare pics.
i don't see it
i don't see it
It's the hovertank turret on the far right. I probably didn't light it good, and the left one's a bit obsured by that one leaf.
Made movement adjustments.

to elaborate, i mean that you're making a weird comparison between the full fledged jungles of 'Nam - where tanks are bound to hide in the foliage - and a few palm trees in an otherwise bare street

About god damn time Source got Zaku models. Even if they are pretty low quality, it's still a good time.
it's just simple model test shot, i'll make something else with more effort later
do people like, live in those castles or something? I never really got that
the crew - personnel other than the pilots that is - probably lives in the top part, at least during deployments, but for the most part it's for housing the gun turrets and their magazines and generators and it supposedly has space for the Machine Cult's rituals too.
the leg bastions are designed to house Mechanicum or Imperial Guard soldiers for close assault purposes - the Titan first breaks open the enemy defense line and then the infantry stored in the legs pours out to shoot any survivors in the face and secure the area
