Better to assume that since Ninja's PC broke that they're cancelled.
There's a notable difference between "not released because not finished" and "never going to be released because private"
It is a shitty thing to do to post pictures of models you have no intention of releasing if the context is 'look what i have that you can't have ha ha ha', but that doesn't mean everyone who has private models is a cunt and it doesn't make the concept of private models a bad one.

Well hey, I myself am working on some WIP stuff and i'd love for people to test them, even if they're still missing a few things.

Not really. Why shouldn't something that has no chance of ever being finished, not be released? No one is charging for it. Chances are that if someone can make a decent picture with it, it's functional enough to be released.
Because if the person creating said model doesn't feel it's up to standard then that's his decision and you aren't entitled to anything?

I've worked on a lot of things that were perfectly functional and releaseable, but I felt like either I didn't do a good job porting them, or they just weren't worth porting in the first place. Then they end up rotting in model purgatory forever.
There's nothing at all wrong with having standards. Do you want us to go back to the days where there were tons of ports released but they were all shoddy, half-assed peices of shit? It's better that people spend longer and put care and effort into working on things that are actually quality and worth releasing rather than just releasing shit for the sake of releasing it.
Ah the buzz word "entitled." No of course I am not. I'm saying people would be perfectly accepting of a good model that was never finished, knowing that it just as well couldn't have been released at all.

The workshop is full of absolute trash. It's why I don't upload anything there anymore. The gmod workshop community is absolute shit too.
If the workshop makes anything clear, it's that the vast majority of Garry's Mod players do not have the capacity to read.
I have to agree with the whole throwing private models in people's faces thing. WIP pictures are understandable, and same with creating models for like say, one very specific project like Espionage Wars that you don't really have any intention of using outside that instance. But just absolutely going to town with these amazing models that no one else is going to get to use, yeah that's a bit dickish.

i intend to release everything i show pictures of, but sometimes stuff just doesn't turn out as well as i'm hoping, and i want to have everything to have a consistent level of quality before i release

You don't need to work on lighting, you still need to really figure out what lighting is and what kind of impact it has on your images.
I want you to take a break from posing, find a completely unlit room, and try and recreate as many portraits from[URL="https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21161113/random/2einxVi.jpg"] this image[/URL] as possible.
It's important to get the pose correct, but the critical part of this exercise will be recreating the lighting.
Furthermore, when you see poses of characters in this forum, I want you to try and identify what type of lighting they used and why it did or did not work.
I may try that myself since my lighting is pretty subpar.

bolded is especially why we don't release shit sometimes - because overtime, you generally get better. and sometimes, you find new techniques and now your past work pales in comparison and it just doesn't work. plus, you get all sorts of problems going on that make you go "people won't really like this." private models can be private for a good reason. we aren't just assholes like that.
