I see you that kind of person who never holded a wired baseball bat in his arms. So, answer is no. You need to be very unaccurate and clumsy to hurt yourself with barbed wire. It's definetly can scratch or prick your skin, but you need to swing or push your hand on wire thorn with some power. And if you in thick skin gloves, you can almost catch this thing with your bare hands without any harm. Of course, usual cloth tissue will be ripped and penetrated in multiple areas.
I am not saying that is an absolute truth, but this is simply my personal experience with wired baseball bats.
