Started working on this today out of boredom, I have no clue how to expand into the horizon. Any ideas? [t]https://prnt.sc/hfaoel[/t]
Could make it easier and add a passing/still train, or have some pylons come frm behind the building on the right and carry on into the distance, using fog to suggest depth
Yea, that's what I'd first set up. I haven't been able to work on this much because I hit a snag. $ambientboost and $mostlyopaque Crowbar fixes don't seem to work on certain models. They stay transparent after the fix and I can't figure out why. Anyone encounter this before? Even worse, that pine in the background has something very wrong with its lighting and Crowbar didn't change that. Both the pine and the fallen tree don't show up on "AO only" even after Crowbar fixes. The fallen tree is still transparent. The wraith used to have this same ambient occlusion transparency issue, but that crowbar trick fixed it along with some other models. I know this is an SFM problem among mostly Gmod folk, but I haven't found answers in places like the SFM subreddit. (SFM's DoF doesn't really look natural to me, but that's a separate issue. Still can't find those models. Also... is that, like, ghosting effect just part of Ellie's model?)
i made this like two months ago and haven't done anything with it since so it's unlikely to ever get finished, but i might redo it at some point god how did i think the frontmost dude's hair looked acceptable
A little late but still- this is excellent. Add atmosphere passes first, and then see what lighting works with it. If it's not too late, I'd consider moving the orange dude away from line merging the trees and the city, as he sort of gets swallowed in between.
Started something else while I figure that out. What could I start doing to improve this scene? It'll be at least 2 or 3 separate images of different angles when complete. I'm thinking of adding stuff like random ground clutter or smoke. Is the lighting OK? Nishum
Lighting's okay, but the kid's shoulders are fucked
I thought that seemed a little wonky. Better? (Still need to finagle the hands.) Is it generally better to work the collar bone or the shoulder when posing the arm? (I might have answered my own question because this is shoulder and the other was collar.)
Tons better, now I'd add dirt and filth (it's too clean atm) and make sure some of the less important bits of the pictures are in shadows, such as the floor right of where the kid is sitting, or under corpses, etc. Not sure why the floor is so bright there
Imo the kid looks a bit bored or upset but not upset in a tramautized way but more like he's been told he can't have an ice cream or something Not that you should be encouraging yourself to make children look terrorfide but if his face posing is a bit wonky consider hiding his head in his knees or something
I was hoping for a thousand yard stair, but know jack ship about posing. How's this? I also retouched the lighting a bit. Still feel like the scene seems a bit empty, though.. I want to add blood/grime on the kid in post, but it feels like it's missing more than that. (Updated album) N Volumetrics
The ground not receiving any AO or shadows really kills the scene at the moment.
The compistion is good though, keep that angle imo
Yea... you're right. That was the only road texture I had. Did some searching for other ground textures.
Looks much better now however i dunno i still don't think that stare works but that might be just me
i'm redoing an old picture but i have 0 idea how to light it i considered an overcast day, but that didn't go too well any ideas or help? i'm generally not done with the picture so if there's any other scenebuilding suggestions anyone has i'd be glad to see them
Place the sun from the front right, place a building to cast shadow over the two subjects (the entire lot area, barrel and clamps included), such that the sun only illuminates the street after the barricades/fence, sending soft light bounce onto the subjects from the left back
after adding a few more scene pieces i lit it like this i think i'm satisfied enough with this; now to edit it so radically i'll get my old stabilize picture again for reference: trying to remake this with a generally better aesthetic including (but not limited to) actual scenebuilt surroundings and more action in the area
less tracers, please. a cloud of light beams kills whatever sense of motion a picture might otherwise have because either that SMG somehow has a fire rate of 3000-4000 rpm, or those bullets are slow as fuck
will keep this in mind and will remove some, thanks i was a bit worried that i added too many tracers considering i dont know how weapons actually function
Tracers are only fired out of machineguns primarily, not anything really smaller than that like SMGs, pistols, ARs etc etc. The reason for tracers in the first place is to make sure you know where your shots are going through sustained fire.
this doesn't matter. people can use tracers for the sake of coolness in their pictures if they want. where, how and when they're use them is the important bit.
I wasn't saying he had to use it, i was just explaining them cause he said he doesn't know about them
will keep all of this in mind!!! thank for helpo
yeah generally tracers are used on machine guns - you make every X bullet in the magazine a tracer and you can keep track of how many rounds you have in the box without needing to count every shot
However, as Joazz rightfully mentioned, you can use them whenever you like because they look cool as shit. It is however howyou use them thats important, like Joazz said
Tried tweaking the head and eyes a bit. Eyes Leaning towards these, maybe. Half closed Closed
Fuck thats so much better now great improvement
Yea, I'm really happy with the feedback I got. Thanks, all! So, before I move on to post: I exported these as 2-5 second movies so that I can select a frame with good volumetrics. But, there's one last thing I want to run by you just in case. I dimmed the key lighting down a bit and I'm having a hard time deciding if that made things better or worse. Though, maybe one will end up receiving adjustment layers better in post? Final Normal lighting final dimmed lighting
erm any idea?
