I have the same problem, i've tried everything, the only thing that worked was reinstalling ALL of steam and copying Gmod files from a different PC which had an older version of gmod, however as soon as it patched it had the problem occur again, i can't even play the game now, Garry, fix this plz
Is anyone here that is experiencing this problem running an AMD CPU/chipset/graphics card? I tried downloading Steam & Gmod on another AMD machine running Win XP, and it didn't work, same problem. Though I reserected an old intel rig with an nvidia chipset and an 8800gt and the game runs fine. OS: Win XP Home SP3 CPU: Intel E5200 (2.5GHz dual-core) Mobo: Asus P5N-D (nvidia 750i chipset) GFX: nvidia 8800GT Don't know if this will be helpful to Garry at all, but here it is.
Why doesn't garry fix this problem already? ive seen a LOT of people have the exact same issue, some even reinstalled their OS just to have the game crash without errors again.
Coding takes time. Fixing something takes even longer when the problem doesn't give any real error notice. Just wait. He's acknowledged that there is a problem by posting on this thread, we just need to wait it out.
Oh god I hope it's fixed soon. More specs if needed. Hello Superbros, just send him a crashlog via E-Mail. As your problem is related to a crash, there is additional steps needed to figure out the exact problem. First of all, we need to check if a crashdump is generated during the crash. Here is a short howto:
As your problem is related to a crash, we require you to upload an crash-dump. Please follow those steps to upload one: What is a crashdump?! A crashdump is a file generated automatically when your game crashes. It includes important information about what was going on when the game/server crashed. Garry can see what is happening before and during the crash. What exactly does it include? A lot of information. This includes (but isn't limited to): - RAM used - Path to Garry's Mod - Console-Log (doesn't function always, unfortunately) - Stack Trace (Doesn't matter what it is) - Loaded .dll's - Non-default convars However: Not everything can be seen clear text by "normal" users. Only garry got access to all functions. How to create a crashdump: Find the crashdump Client Browse to your "steam" folder (Usually found at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\) and open the "dumps" folder. Use the windows "detail" view and sort by date/time to pick the latest crashdump. Server Browse to your servers orangebox folder (the folder with the second srcds.exe in it). Open the "dumps" folder. Use the windows "detail" view and sort by date/time to pick the latest crashdump.
Just leave the window open for now. The next step is only required if you crash during the startup, but it doesn't hurt if you attach it for other crash related issues.
Open up steam and right-click Garry's Mod. Choose Properties from the dropdown menu. It should bring up the Launch Options window. It might not be empty and look similar to this: Now, please append the following options to it:
-condebug -profile
The final result should look like this: Start up Garry's Mod. Two new files were created on your harddisk. First of all, browse to the first garrysmod folder. You should find a file called "timestamped.log". Just copy it into save place. After that, go into the next garrysmod folder. You will find a "console.log" file. Copy that one into a save place as well. That's it! All log files should now be in a central place. Change your command-line again and remove the added parameters. We don't need them anymore.
Last step! You almost did it! Now we need to find out what system you are running on. We will use SIW for that, as it generates the most reliable and detailed reports. The instruction is for Windows.
First of all, download SIW. You can obtain it from http://www.gtopala.net/download/oc/siw-setup.exe - in case you don't trust the source, just google for SIW. Install SIW and run it for the first time. It might look like it hung up, just give it some time to start. Now, click on FILE -> CREATE REPORT FILE -> HTML. In the next window, click on "Options" and change the settings as shown in the screenshot. Please go trough all categories and click "Default" one time. Ensure that in the "Hardware" section Video and Sound Devices is ticked. Now click save and save the file into the folder with all the other logs. It can take a little while until the full report is created - be patient!
Great! We got all the information! Now we deliver them to Garry Newman (the creator of Garry's Mod, if you didn't know that by now...) - he is always happy to receive crashlogs! (Ok, not really, but he will try to solve the problem if it's on his side) Open up your favorite mail client or webclient such as google mail. Now, attach all the files to a new E-Mail. (Should be four at least: Crashdump, Timestamped.log, Console.log and your system specs) For the suspect I recommend using "Full Crashlog" and some text, so Garry can easily search for those crashlogs. Now, write a small message to him (duh) and then send the mail to garrynewman@gmail.com Of course there is no warranty that he will help you, but at least you tried! Good luck. [SUB]Any instructions/help is provided without any warranty.[/SUB]
My Garry's Mod is crashing too... hope it will be fixed soon OS: Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo (T7500 2.20GHz 2.20GHz) Mobo: Dell Inspiron 1720 GFX: GeForce 8600M GT Timestamped: 0.0291 / 0.0291: LoadAppSystems: Took 0.0291 secs to load libraries and get factories. 0.2856 / 0.2566: Steam3Client().Activate() 0.4021 / 0.1165: COM_InitFilesystem( m_StartupInfo.m_pInitialMod ) 1.7608 / 1.3586: game->Init 1.7613 / 0.0005: videomode->Init 1.9213 / 0.1600: MapReslistGenerator_Init() 1.9216 / 0.0003: DevShotGenerator_Init() 1.9225 / 0.0008: CVideoMode_Common::Init CreateGameWindow 4.4436 / 2.5212: CVideoMode_Common::Init SetupStartupGraphic

I'm having the same issue. No console log is being created and there is no dump file being created. Just the same timestamped log.
Send the timestamped.log and spec report to garry. Just leave the files you don't have out and tell him they were not generated.
Is it making crashlogs? If so email them over to garrynewman@gmail.com. Try running with -condebug and see if it makes a console.log - and paste the contents here or email it to me.
Sent you an email a few days ago with practically the same thing because I had the same problem.
I'll generate the report and send garry the time stamped log and spec report. [editline]18th August 2012[/editline] Done and dusted. Emailed them both of. Eagerly awaiting a reply.
Just wanted to say that this is still a problem after the updates. I didn't really expect the fix to be given so soon, but I just don't want this thread to be pushed under the rug.
Has not worked for me either :(
I've been having this for weeks now, which I find rather odd since it worked perfectly until now. The timestamp ; 0.1312 / 0.1312: LoadAppSystems: Took 0.1312 secs to load libraries and get factories. 0.3512 / 0.2200: Steam3Client().Activate() 0.5078 / 0.1566: COM_InitFilesystem( m_StartupInfo.m_pInitialMod ) 0.9397 / 0.4319: game->Init 0.9537 / 0.0140: videomode->Init 1.2014 / 0.2476: MapReslistGenerator_Init() 1.2028 / 0.0015: DevShotGenerator_Init() 1.2045 / 0.0017: CVideoMode_Common::Init CreateGameWindow 1.3643 / 0.1598: CVideoMode_Common::Init SetupStartupGraphic What I wonder in particular if this is a fault on my part or on Gmod's part.
My Garry's Mod has received and installed the latest update from 2 days ago and still no change. Stille crashing at the loading screen and still the same timestamp log entries.
If there's another update that doesn't fix this problem I will seriously stab myself in the chest and cut it open (Note : Ain't really going to happen)
How odd, I tried it on a different computer and it worked perfectly, but the issue still remains on my primary computer, how odd. Is it possible it's a hardware related issue?
Hmm.... A while ago someone fixed the issue by deleting all sorts of Source-runned games and re-installing them But I'm sure no-one would do that...right?
I've tried re-installing steam multiple times, never worked. I have to use an alternate computer to play Garry's Mod.
Ive messaged Garry a few times, sadly he stopped responding a bit over a week ago. Been a month since it started.... Atleast ive got other steam games to hold me over.
I think Garry has gone MIA, sadly I also have the issue of it crashing with out generating error reports or dump logs. same with Tf2, L4d2 and Css
I seem to be a victim of this very same problem. Can't play GMod.
Gentlemen, this guy here has the answer to your problem! http://steamcommunity.com/id/MyCatAteYourCookie/ Just message him, he told me how to fix my G-mod and it works!

Just delete EVERYTHING from the garrysmod folder inside garrysmod (Credit to Mycatateyourcookie for telling me)
Or how about, you know, just posting whatever you did?
You know it reinstall all the stuff for the game so it a good thing. :)
Still doesn't work for me. Guess i'll go out and get a life... :tinfoil:
...Or just ask any real friends to do a LAN party :smile:
