I'd like to do that, but the thing is, pressing any of the boot or setup keys makes the tower emit a long, loud beep and then asks me for a setup password, of which I do not have. I can attempt to take pictures if it'll make things easier but for now, I'll go over the events that happened.

Restarted computer to boot into Ubuntu.
Computer gets as far as the HP logo and the GRUB command line appears. Not sure what it is; similar to the below picture, only it says what I put in the aforementioned code.
Try some command lines from Ubuntu website; failed.
Computer will still not boot. End of story
reset the bios. there will be either a jumper or a button.
Hmm. I remember getting error 17 after my MBR was wiped, I think.
Using Ubuntu is not a good idea to use in schools, fyi.
Using Ubuntu is not a good idea to use in schools, fyi.
Reason? And yes, if your BIOS has a password lock, just reset it like previously mentioned.
How do I reset it?
if you can't find the jumper or button, take out the cmos battery for ten seconds. then put it back in.

I don't want to mess with that stuff until my dad gets home. I'll try that then.
Reason? And yes, if your BIOS has a password lock, just reset it like previously mentioned.
OpenOffice isn't that good you know...
OpenOffice isn't that good you know...
I believe it's better than MS Office. Don't ask why. I just noticed that your name contradicts everything you say; you appear to be anti-Linux. To everyone else: I might as well just buy a new hard drive because this problem doesn't appear to want to get fixed. Get new HD, install Ubuntu, no Windows to fuck shit up, happy ending. There we go.
Can you not boot from a livecd?
I said it before and I'll say it again: I cannot boot from anything.
Is it possible for me to erase the hard drive without using the computer itself? I doubt a magnet would work but even if it does, I don't have one big enough. I want to keep the HD, so any ways to completely waste it without using the computer?
A magnet would definitely wipe it, but it may also cause other problems. I don't understand how you can't boot with only error 17, it's not even that serious an error. Relatively easy to fix usually.
I don't get error 17, though.
GRUB Loading Error: no disk found grub rescue>
That is what shows up no matter what I do. I want to know what command I can use to fix it.
remove the hard drive, and try booting from a livecd.

I thought that if I took the hard drive out, the computer wouldn't be able to boot. I'm attempting to burn the Super GRUB Disc to a CD so I can try to fix this issue. But then I have to take Ubuntu off. :saddowns: [editline]11:03AM[/editline] Apparently a disc won't even boot. I am getting fed up.
no, the computer can boot without a hard drive. I do it all the time when diagnosing shit like this.
I don't even want to mess with that for fear of the computer breaking. I already had it fixed two or three times. It's not even mine so unless the actual owner (school district; it's a loaner computer until it gets signed over) signs it to me, then I'm screwed. No more computer for me. Might as well get a job and purchase a computer with Ubuntu preinstalled. Any ideas? It's the middle of the school year so I can't get a part-time or job or else I'd be busy as fuck.
Don't buy one with it preinstalled. Get a computer with windows installed and just install Ubuntu. More possibilities.
More possibilities? How so?
1. Just burn it on. 2. Ubuntu is a distibution of Linux, So no. 3. Yes, but not without emulating it. 4. Yes if you dont play games 5. Not sure 6. Depends whether the drivers are supported in Linux 7. You can use the windows one. 8. Hahaha, viruses... Damn i'm late, GIVE ME YOUR CLOCKS.
There are viruses and malware available for Linux.
They exist, but you have to give them permission to harm your system.
They exist, but you have to give them permission to harm your system.
Not the ones that are actually viruses and exploit the system.
Not the ones that are actually viruses and exploit the system.
the system is exploitable without any kind of malicious softwares there's better odds a user of fat fingerering wilcards/commands or user ignorance causing damage to a system than that kind of thing usually there's a few base bash commands that can be exploited to elevate user permissions to cause mischief, cat and less are pretty good examples.
Let's get back on topic; I need an answer now. A friend of mine who works in Geek Squad said to press the Delete key before boot-up and select the 'Boot from disc' option. Does that work? I cannot access the BIOS and I want it fixed in the most short amount of time possible.

My Eee PC uses Esc for that, so I have no idea what yours uses.
