• New Graphics Card

I've had my computer for quite a while and I have a single Radeon 4670 and it needs to be upgraded. I'm getting a new motherboard, and an i7 960, but I am undecided on a graphics card. What do you think? Nvidia or ATi? And should I get one thats already released or get something upcoming soon? I'm hoping to get 2 in Crossfire/SLI. No price limits, but if theres like no difference in quality and it's a huge price difference, the lower one would be fine. So what do you guys think? Btw, I have my friend who will be rebuilding my computer because he is much more capable than me, and he'll do it for free, so I'm good on that.
Even if you've got 4,000 to spend, I'd go with a 930 and either crossfire 2 5870's or get a 5970. If you really want to spend the money you could go trip 5870's or crossfire 5970's
Wait until Nvidia releases their cards and the price wars will save you some money.

Don't buy Intel processor except you want to work very often on multimedia programs. And you have to buy a motherboard which is very expensive for socket 1366. AMD Processor is kinda cheap and often as powerful as an Intel for games, etc... And I can guarantee the retiability.

Guys, this is for the GPU not the CPU.
Even the most powerful AMD processor out now can bottleneck on cpu extensive games.
You want to buy extra cash for a processor-motherboard ? Around +600$ ? (In fact, I don't know especially dollars prices but I know it's for around +450 Euros compared to AMD processor-motherboard) And the advantage with AMD motherboard (AM3) is the fact it can handle the next processors (Phenom II X6) or the old without problems. The Intel Processor is very dependant with the motherboard (and vice-versa), it can be a very good waste of money, depending of your use, of course. (Ps: I do not hate Intel, it's just I hate people are buying some things very expensive when they can have a very good component for less money) ANYWAY (And sorry for that): For graphic card, depends of your monitor resolution, but the ATI Radeon 5870 and 5970 are the fatest cards in the market. If you have a resoultion around 1680x1050 or less, ATI Radeon 5770 or 5850 (Not the 5830, it's crap) it's okay.

An i5 with a decent motherboard, lets say the gigabyte ud3h would be around 200 for the processor 160 for the mobo. thats 360. AMD's flagship, which is weaker than the i5, the 965 costs around 190, the equvilent mobo costs 115 thats 305. 55 dollars less but less powerful. AM is not backwards compatible with AM2+. Guess what. They'll release new processors for intel sockets as well. MOBOs have almost no effect on processor power. "Intel Processor is very dependant on motherboard" is bullshit. You get what you paid for.
Ps: I was comparing with the OP's i7 960. Sorry if you do not understand. I'm agree with you for some points you say (Except I was thinking about the fact that i7 can do better than AMD actually but whatever), even if I am sure you don't need all of this for a gaming PC. Again it's depends of your wallet can do.
Do not get a I7-960 Really DONT! The only difference between the I7 and the I5 is Hyper Threading which you only use while rendering movies/decoding or compiling.

Just for a question: which mark of ATI 5970 is better for cooling/perf/etc... ? I hear about HIS and Sapphire but I'm not sure.
both the same reference cooler, i picked the sapphire because it was cheapest because it isnt factory overclocked [editline]05:47PM[/editline] and i dont think there are any 3rd party coolers for them yet [editline]05:50PM[/editline] unless you have a watercooling loop
Seems like the Artinc Cooling Accelero Xtreme for ATI Radeon 5970 will be soon: Edit: Don't know if he can handle a CrossfireX of 5970 or just a single card
ooo-errr suave
