Okay, so our household switched internet providers recently, and when my dad got the bill it said we exceeded our maximum bandwidth of 25 GB a month by around 100 GBs, which is needless to say- ridiculous.
He doesn't know what's sucking up that much data, and I just want to find out how much my own computer uses, so that I can show it to him and eliminate myself as a possible contender.
TL;DR: Is there and if so, what is the best program (preferably freeware) that can monitor the bandwidth usage of my computer?
Yep, that wasn't what I asked for.
I asked for people's opinions on which is the best one. Because googleing something does not always sort your results from best to worst.
Do you have a router? Your best bet is to use that to monitor bandwidth. (If it doesn't support it natively there is probably custom firmware that does)
Why you ask? Because a router will monitor everything on the network while software will just monitor the PC it is installed on.

Still not what he wanted though. He wants to prove to his dad that he's not downloading 100 gb/month
Don't ISPs usually have a bandwidth monitor on their website?

Have fun

also allows for multiple computers to talk to each other so people can see whos downloading everything and you can set a monthly quota on downloads
If you are prepared to pay, go for NetLimiter.
