How the hell is those places in Wales getting them? and it's in towns with "Llan" at the start, I live in Llandysul man if only. [editline]08:08PM[/editline] Oh, their both near Cardiff.
These sorts of posts are getting very annoying. The main reason for the UK taking so long to increase broadband speeds is the telephone exchange network is one of the oldest in the world, and it's costing billions to maintain & upgrade slowling down broadband evolution considerably
I'm sowwies...
Considering that BT provide no where near to what their claimed up to speeds are, I wouldn't get your hopes up. - If you want a reliable ISP go with virgin media.
I wouldn't be surprised if with BT's 100mb/s you get sub 50mb/s speeds, I'm on Virgin 50mb/s and it lives up to i's expectations/
Are you sure that's not what you're supposed to be getting? ISPs advertise their speeds in megabits, but when you use the internet it's measured in megabytes. 2 megabits = 256 kilobytes. If this is true then you are getting exactly what your ISP is advertising.
I guarantee you it's 2 MB a second, not 2 Mb a second. [editline]10:34AM[/editline] I mean, the lowest i could go buy right now is up to 10 Mb a second.
NEVER EVER GET BT. Fuck. Your internet will be a cripple by the end of your contract with them. Especially if you're using their homehub, you can expect having difficulty connecting to any servers, opening ports, and expect your router to restart randomly while downloading off steam and playing left 4 dead 2. HNGG fuck them.
BT is shit. Carphone warehouse is worse. :(
Well fiber have nothing to do with the phone line, but it take less space than old wires so you call pull other stuff with it.
Robbazking is here to save the day! Why haven't you posted one of your videos yet? BT has something known as a universal service obligation, and thus has to provide a telephone line to any address UK, maintaining this makes up for the vast majority of BT's outgoings, and it's not as simple as just ripping copper lines out and replacing them with fiber, the cost would be astronomical, and it would go against BT's USO. So the only option is to install fiber along side copper. When you've got to maintain a aging system and install a brand new one at the same time, it'll be an expensive, slow process
Fuick yes, my town is on there :D [editline]12:34PM[/editline]
I guarantee you it's 2 MB a second, not 2 Mb a second. FUCK SAKE. They give it to Bangor but not Belfast. What's their damn issue?
Coalville is like 10 miles away from me :(

Don't BT rent there lines out to third party companies? So doesn't this mean most people on DSL will benefit?
If you are not on Virgin, you will benefit. All UK ISPs rent from BT except Virgin.

I just wouldn't recommend BT to anyone unless they were the only option.

As my contract came to an end they restricted my download to 2Mb (when I was getting solid 8 before) and it would drop out
My town isn't on there for FTTH, but we're getting FTTC at least. About time since we're one of the worst towns in England for internet, with 50% of people getting 2MBit or under. The new FTTC trial should provide up to 40MBps which is a godsend for people struggling on the shitty connections we have now. They've been installing the new VDSLAM hardware at a surprising pace. [editline]05:10PM[/editline]
And sky still goes through the BT lines.
Providers generally have to sign up to be FTTH/FTTC providers, yet I hear Sky will be at least doing FTTC so I can only guess they'd provide FTTH too.

The Indian lady kept insisting I was on dial-up, while it may feel like I'm on dial-up, I'm definitely not. Oh and if ever there's a problem they insist it's a "fault with the internal wirings" when really it's because of the shitty degrading aluminium line that runs to my house.
fibER optics. :patriot:

They kept telling me 2Mb was the fastest possible on my line, which was just total bullshit. After I left them I signed up to BE and am currently getting 16Mb on the same lines.

Well, apparently DNA provides 10mb (with a price of 8mb?) on the same line.
Megabits or megabytes?
They were really bad, I called up and complained I was only getting 2Mb when I was getting solid 8Mb a few weeks before. Perhaps the best thing BT has done for me so far is install the new VDSL2 FTTC hardware, I'm still surprised how fast they're getting it done considering how fucking lazy and reluctant they have been in the past to change anything. Maybe if I don't get screwed out of this upgrade I can switch to Be. [editline]09:23PM[/editline] I'm guessing megabits.
Megabits or megabytes?
Megabits, I guess. I have stuff running on the background atm.
fffffffff I'd get 100mbit/s fibre here, but you need enough people interested in the area and then they'll think about it.
I'm bad with my bytes. The faster one.
Bytes are faster but bits are more realistic in your context [editline]09:25PM[/editline]
fffffffff I'd get 100mbit/s fibre here, but you need enough people interested in the area and then they'll think about it.
Supply and demand can suck. I don't think they'll ever get rid of the awful aluminium cable running from my cabinet to me because the area probably isn't profitable enough. [editline]09:27PM[/editline] Ha. This is why I really want our FTTC upgrade to work.
Edited the post. But we are soon moving to Helsinki where we can have that 110/5 connection. :woop:
Is that extra 10 just to be competitive :v:
Sorry, what? Please speak idiot, so I can understand.
Is there a way to check what exchange point you are using?
