Complicated, perhaps. Though not so much time consuming. Chrome made it quick as did IE8. 4.0 is suppose to release late '10 to early '11. A whole year for such an important feature? MEH.
Honestly I can't remember the last time I crashed my firefox, so to me it's not an important feature. But like I said, prototypes are currently being worked on (and they have builds coming out). I think it's more of a matter of making it bug-free with threads, then replacing threads with processes and releasing it.
Bump. Changed the thread title in anticipation of 3.6's launch later today. Latest pre builds, possibly the final build up there now: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/latest-firefox-3.6.x/
Placebo. Once the RC is out, no new code is written, only bug fixes.
That's what I meant, not the speed it connects to Internet, but the browser starts up 3 seconds faster.
That's what I meant, not the speed it connects to Internet, but the browser starts up 3 seconds faster.
And I'm saying that's probably not due to a RC bug fix. It could be it's just not very likely.
Just going to leave this here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/upgrade.html
Wow, they've already got alpha 3.7 builds out: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/
They've had those for a while.
Just going to leave this here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/upgrade.html
Thanks for updating the thread!
Nice surprise, hopefully my favorite addons will work.
Why the hell is it scrolling so fast, god damn.

Did 3.6 ever have official 64-bit support or am I getting that confused with something else?
Did 3.6 ever have official 64-bit support or am I getting that confused with something else?
You're confusing it with something else. Firefox can be compiled for 64-bit, but it's worthless because few plugins work with it.
Just updated my OS X version (for web development). Personas look terrible, because they affect the actual window too. 4.0 Hurry up already!
It's missing a few features I like from 3.7. But shit's still nice and fast. 3.7 beats it everywhere though.
4.0 Hurry up already!
Yeah, they got some nice style ideas going, similar to Chrome/Opera 10.5.
This is a firefox thread, so I though I should post here. When I open up a new tab and go to it, and then go back to the other one, it somehow appears to close even though I can quite clearly see it open. The Tab bar says I'm on facepunch even though I'm on Minecraft.net
Just updated. :iia:
Aaannddd... hardly anything has changed. Good job Mozilla. You guys are so innovative.
Aaannddd... hardly anything has changed. Good job Mozilla. You guys are so innovative.
Why fix if not broken?
Why fix if not broken?
Mozilla developers are lazy and rely on extension developers to do everything for them
Why fix if not broken?
The whole idea of being an alternative is to make something innovative and push boundaries, Mozilla hasn't done anything ground breaking in a while. Its one semi unique feature is its addon system and glorified themes system "Personas".

Chrome has a few rough edges, but oversll looks much better than firefox and takes up far less screen space. I'm warming towards opera too, the new versions are almost as fast as chrome and offer some features I feel are missing from chrome.
I like Opera because it has quite a few features that I might not use all the time but are built in and it still is very fast with these features. I think Chrome could be a real winner in the Browser wars because of the rate of development, they just need to add some more bits and bobs to make it fully fledged. If they can make the addon system easy to use whilst maintaining performance then it would be impressive.
I really freaking love the firefox 4 theme, and how awesomely close strata40 is:
After I installed this, I was on the phone with norton for an hour because it blocked a port for some reason.
After I installed this, I was on the phone with norton for an hour because it blocked a port for some reason.
I think I see your problem.
I really freaking love the firefox 4 theme, and how awesomely close strata40 is
Try strata40 beta, it looks like the new mockups! What's so funny?
shame addons I like don't work.
This.

LOL AT THE BOTTOM LEFT OF THE SCREEN!!!! Anyway, i think that the new firefox is awesome :D Fast and I can actually change a theme in 2 clicks! All my addons work. EDIT: Im using minefield now. For some reason it says that its 3.7 when i download but it is actually 3.6? EDIT: Minefield is buggy and crashes, back to firefox.
Try strata40 beta, it looks like the new mockups!
That's sexy as fuck. I thought I'd hate having no menu bar and the tabs on top, but it's really growing on me. Be sure to enable "always show tab bar" in the options menu or you'll end up with an ugly white chunk up there when you only have one tab open.
