My trusty Samsung Spinpoint F3 that I've had for nearly 3 years is just about filled up, and I've realized that I need to get more space. I've also decided to buy an SSD since they're not too expensive and the performance boost would be welcome. I'm asking you guys on your opinions on what hard drive to get (around 2 TB) and SSD. My budget for both would be around $300 but I can stretch it a little. Also, should I install a second hard drive with my Spinpoint, or just copy the contents of my old HD onto my new one?
Also suggestions for quiet 200mm and 120mm fans would be really helpful. Thanks.

Put the 2 SSD's in Raid 0 and the 2 HDD's in Raid 1

Or I would get this but idk how much mass storage you would need on that hdd.

If you're looking for quiet fans the corsair af quiet are pretty good or the Noctua S12A is one of the best you can get

I'm recommending him a setup that he can run Raid configurations with obviously. It'd be better to provide valid reasoning for not selecting my suggestion rather than saying "WTF are you recommending him?"
Why would he care about raid? You're suggesting an over priced hdd first of all that no one actually buys, and the 500 and 250gb version of the ssd are both better in every single way than the 120 version. Not sure why you would possibly assume spending more money on more drives and using raid is a better option somehow than just buying a bigger drive. The 500gb version especially is a great ssd.
Raid will allow he to get more performance from his SSD and more security from his HDD. In example, 2 250GB SSD's in Raid 0 will be faster than 1 500GB SSD. Yes, maybe the HDD is overpriced but I still recommend having 2 1TB in Raid 1.

This isn't how SSD's work, and raid1 is a terrible replacement for actually doing backups, he isn't planning to run a server off of these things

RAID0 helps in sequential rates. This is not what makes SSD's so amazing. Their Random rates are uneffected by RAID. It is far better to get a larger capacity drive with more NAND controllers than to RAID 2 drives. Plus RAID increases the chance of a failure, because you are relying on two drives.
