Looks a little like the new Opera UI
Looks a little like the new Opera UI
looks like the year old mockups for the new firefox UI
Yeah, but you're a gigantic Opera fanboy You didn't start the browser wars in this thread though so broprops for that
Meh, I like all the browsers. They all have their strong point and their weak points - which I'd happily list for each. [editline]01:44PM[/editline]
looks like the year old mockups for the new firefox UI
Umm, Opera had a fully working alpha build of their newer UI before those Firefox mockups were even revealed http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2009/12/22/from-all-of-us-to-all-of-you The pre-alpha was leaked on the 20th of December last year. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=864535 The Firefox 4.0 mockups weren't revealed until the 21st - a day after. Kind of wish we had these options with the Firefox button...
I love how they added Windows 7 features, and I just started customizing the jumplist and pinned Facepunch to it. :downs:
Chrome's had that for a couple months now.
You know what Chrome didn't have? Me using it. That Browser is too simplified for me.

Both groups were obviously working on their designs previous to posting them - it's possible and perhaps even likely that there was some collaboration going on behind the scenes.

Why does everyone feel the need to simplify their interfaces even further? I get the feeling they have nothing to do with themselves and they just change interfaces around saying its more "user friendly". Like Youtube did.
is that a euphemism for sex :smug:

i stopped using chrome because the way the tabs work is annoying after a while.
Apparently google chrome V6 beta is coming soon, perhaps near the end of July.
It just dosent look right... I'm sticking with 3 for as long as possible.

It would take much longer to code a new design into the browser than to produce mockups. Opera would have had to have worked from their own mockups too. That being said, I don't really accuse anyone of ripping off anyone.

Does anyone know what happened to App Tabs? I'm referring to these: As you can see, I have Google Reader and Gmail as persistent tiny tabs so I can always quickly switch to them. This is an extension of course, but they were a planned 4.0 feature.

What I'd like to see is the app tab glow or do something else noticeable when the page changes. Since it doesn't have the title there I can't tell when I have mail without hovering the mouse over it.

I just think it's a bit silly to keep making a different browser while literally every feature that made it different is disappearing one by one.
I didn't start it. The main one is the sheer extensibility of the plugin system, adding a feature that another browser has doesn't detract from that. And in terms of web browsers, there isn't much that can be added that is new, and still useful.
Then what's the point of extensions?
To give you alternatives to built in features/ other extensions. A lot of the unique extensions have now been replicated by the browser developers and other plugin makers. So even these are rarely unique now. I know that wasn't the best argument, but it is one of the few that came to mind.
Then what's the point of extensions?
I hate the way Chrome handles downloads. I can't do anything about it. I hate the way Firefox handles downloads. Oh look: http://www.downthemall.net/
Personally, I use Download Statusbar.
