The scrolling is wonky.
This. I would do my normal browsing in Chrome if it weren't for the lack of smooth scrolling.
Similar tools are available for other browsers too.
None of them are nearly as good. For example, the huge animated ads that sometimes appear on the YouTube homepage. Both Google Chrome's Adsweep and Opera fail to block it along with several other ads. I could count the number of times I've seen an ad with Adblock Plus on my left hand.
They both take the exact same amount of time for me.
Yeah, new tabs are like nothing. A fresh start from nothing takes a bit longer, but they're still about the same.
Now using Opera, it's better than chrome, and certainly feels faster than chrome does, but there are things that I still don't like, the thumbnails in tabs "feature" being one, I've accidentally enabled it twice already, just by clicking the tabs like normal. If using something other than Firefox, I'll take Opera.
You can disable that by right-clicking on the tab bar. You can use the same exact ad filters that Firefox uses in Opera. [editline]01:30PM[/editline]
A browser doesn't need an IRC client, or a mail client, or an RSS reader. For those there are better web-based alternatives. That is unnecessary bloat.
Nothing's stopping you from using an alternative. Those features are there if you want them. I always used them. It's nice to have these features present in other tabs, just where I want them. And shut the fuck up about "bloat" already. It's obvious you don't understand the meaning of the word.
My only problem with Chrome is the lack of proper ad blocking support. Sorry I just hate ads so much that I will refuse to use a browser just for that.
Similar tools are available for other browsers too.
Not for IE and Chrome.
My only problem with Chrome is the lack of proper ad blocking support. Sorry I just hate ads so much that I will refuse to use a browser just for that. Not for IE and Chrome.
Both Adblock and Adthwart for Chrome can now block ads before downloading them.
Not for IE and Chrome.
Who wants to use IE anyway?
Does Opera have a Noscript equivalent?
Does Opera have a Noscript equivalent?
Yeah, BlockIt. http://www.ghacks.net/2010/02/02/opera-noscript-alternative-blockit/
does it have autoscrolling [editline]06:19AM[/editline] on the linux version
does it have autoscrolling [editline]06:19AM[/editline] on the linux version
Of course.
Yeah, BlockIt. http://www.ghacks.net/2010/02/02/opera-noscript-alternative-blockit/
That UI is gross.
That UI is gross.
Well it seems they thought that a good UI was too much bloat so they toned it down for you.
It looks like chrome except not as pretty.
Of course.
It doesn't seem to be enabled by default, and I don't see the option anywhere.
Both Adblock and Adthwart for Chrome can now block ads before downloading them.
No they can't. If they can, please tell me how so I can update AdSweep accordingly.
Both Adblock and Adthwart for Chrome can now block ads before downloading them.
I'll try them out, I used Chrome quite a while ago so things probably did change.
No they can't. If they can, please tell me how so I can update AdSweep accordingly.
What? https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom
New in version 2.0: Ads are actually BLOCKED FROM DOWNLOADING now, instead of just being removed after the fact!
https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb
New in 0.9.20: Improved support for blocking ads before they are loaded.
[editline]07:10PM[/editline]
That UI is gross.
why does that matter at all [editline]07:16PM[/editline]
It doesn't seem to be enabled by default, and I don't see the option anywhere.
I think you need to change the middle-click options in settings. [editline]07:20PM[/editline] Actually, apparently you need to shift-middle-click on the page to change it. Or something.
What? https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb
Oh sorry. I forgot that people became incapable of lying. AdBlock's developer is the biggest asshole I have ever seen on the internet. He's claimed to be so much better than any other plugin available and even competing with Firefox's ABP while there's nothing true about it.

Chrome now contains an event accessible to content scripts called "beforeload". For example: document.addEventListener("beforeload", function(event) { console.log("Caught resource load"); }, true); This would fire for every resource load in the document. event.preventDefault() should block the resource from loading.
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=35897 And yes, Michael is a bit of a douche, which is why I'd rather support Adthwart.

It's just that a description from someone who's always lied about this kind of thing doesn't really help. I'll see what I can do about it.
I honestly doubt Google will ever let people code a full Ad blocker, or Noscript thing since they make most of their money from ad revenue.
I honestly doubt Google will ever let people code a full Ad blocker, or Noscript thing since they make most of their money from ad revenue.
You know, many people have said that, and yet they implemented a Javascript event only useful for ad-blockers.
I'm currently using beta2, and it seems much faster. 64-bit is great, but yet again... Flash dissapoints, it seems like Flash doesn't support 64-bit browsers. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/
Here's a good reason not to:
wow the new version of software is incompatible with the previous version I totally did not expect this at all suck it up baby
wow the new version of software is incompatible with the previous version I totally did not expect this at all suck it up baby
It shouldn't be, if the Firefox developers knew about backwards compatibility like normal developers.
It shouldn't be, if the Firefox developers knew about backwards compatibility like normal developers.
Wow Firefox must really suck then. It's not like this is a beta or anything.
Wow Firefox must really suck then. It's not like this is a beta or anything.
Good luck testing a beta without the extensions that actually make the browser decent.
Good luck testing a beta without the extensions that actually make the browser decent.
Oh hey How are those ads working out for you? Opera actually ran noticeable slow while fetching that picture too...
Oh hey [img_thumb]http://imgur.com/9aEU0.png[/img_thumb] How are those ads working out for you?
Fine, I'm using Firefox. But even if I wasn't, Opera has an adblocker built in. Idiot. [editline]02:33AM[/editline] Look, using Fanboy's filter list - one of the Adblock Plus's default filters.
