holy shit no need to be a dick mr. headphone superiority
Really sorry. It gets on my nerves when someone says "I need some awesome looking headphones" since I hear it so goddamn much around my place.
Then they turn around and say my cans suck.

Alright. If you aren't going to do the mods I recommend keeping them playing some music (higher volumes are better) for the night along the next week.
It's called burn-in.
What's the best I can get for $50-$60? If I ever get this damn MIR I might add 20 or 30 bucks to it to buy some cans (laugh all you want at my gamecom 377's :v:)
Sennheiser HD380 pro for $199 AUD+$15 postage, should I go for it?
From what I heard Sennheiser excels at open cans. I would recommend looking elsewhere for closed headphones.
Even though, wait for a more experienced opinion.
Read this review by a fellow poster for a gist:

Right, detailed HD380 pro rundown!
Let me start with a little disclaimer, all this shit's opinion based and not a very good one at that, as my previous headphones where creative fatalities... But nonetheless, let's get into this.
First and foremost, ahem...
HOLY SHIT THE QUALITY
I just spent the last 10 or so minutes listening to all of my favorite music and I simply cannot believe it sounds this good. I can pump the volume with no distortion or crackling.
I have a fucking :siren:$400:siren: logitech z-5500 and these comparatively plucky $120 dollar cans blow the 'techs out of the water, they're simply in a completely different realm in terms of clarity and quality. But then again I don't use the z-5500 and it's beast of a 10" woofer for easy listening...
This is hands down the best money I've spent all year.
Let's get down to specifics though.
Downsides first.
They're a bit tight on the head, my first reaction when I opened the box was HOW DO I GET THESE ON MY HEAD?! because the space between the cans was like 10cm. They fit snugly though and it's the headband that provides the flex. I'm not too concerned because I'm sure they'll flex out with time but I'm not experiencing any immediate discomfort. EDIT: I just noticed the headband can be extended further than I first thought, most of this first point is now moot.
The largest downside I can think of right now though is that the bass is a tiny little bit less than I would've wanted. Don't get me wrong, it's way more than enough but I think the responce around 50-75hz is a bit lacking. The real lows are good and all just above that it's juuuuust a little bit quieter than I would've wanted.
Purely informational stuff:
Cable is about a meter in length total , about 70% of which is coiled so the stretched out length would be like 3m. It comes with a 1/4" adapter and a neat little textile case for carrying it.
The cans themselves rotate 90 degrees in one direction to allow for putting them flat in the little bag thing.
Isolation is superb, I completely lose contact with the outside world and I dare say they could double as hearing protection.
Asthetically they're gorgeous, black matte plastic all over and the sennheiser logo in silver.
The actual construction appears very solid aswell, the joints are made of metal and the headband is sturdy. I expect these to hold well past the 2 year warranty
All in all, while I'm sure there are headphones in the same price range that are technically better, I am completely in love with these headphones and would not trade them for any other of equal value.

lol i feel you. i don't care about the looks, just the other pair suggested are pretty large and don't seem intended to be used on the go

I did some snooping around and found these Denons:
http://www.amazon.com/Denon-Professional-Headphones-Closed-Dynamc/dp/B002KYLGT8/ref=sr_1_53?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1308674214&sr=1-53
(not very sure about these but Denon is very reputable)
Or get these M40s as suggested by another guy earlier:
http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATHM40FS-Precision-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0002D03ZW/ref=pd_cp_e_1
(since they be on sale and all)
I think those fill the need for nice and compact.

Now I've been eyeballing the AKG k271 MkII for a long time now and I'm thinking: Should I get the K272 instead?
Im torn between:
A900
K271 MkII
K272
They're all about the same price which befuddles me some more.
i would prefer to keep the price around $30ish.
Does anyone know the headphones that are: 1 color only, no designs, or anything, just 1 color and they cover the year pretty nicely, this may be really broad but I need help on finding those headphones.
I may have been a bit over enthusiastic with my review of the hd380's, now that the shock has worn off and I've had some time with them I've noticed that they're uncomfortable as fuck in long sittings because they clamp on hard and the synthetic leather (i think) earpads are not comfortable.
I would much rather wear my old fatalities, seriously while the creative fatality headset may be shit it is damn comfortable. On top of this I feel like they could (and indeed should) sound better. Again I have very little experience but I THINK the midrange is a bit muffled because I keep feeling like vocals and piano and the likes are quieter than I'm used to.
So I've decided to return the 380's and take my headphone buying offline to an actual audio store and try to score something more proffessional.
sooooo...
Budget: 800SEK/$120/€85/£75
Ebay/Amazon: No
Isolation: I think open, but I'm gonna see if I can try some at an audio/music store so currently open to both
The use is so broad it's pointless to specify the % thing and music taste, I'll be using this all day every day that I can't use my speakers.
Bonus points for comfort.
If the headphones clamp on too hard, you can just put it on your tower for a couple nights to stretch them out a bit.
If you're after comfort, nothing beats the AD700.
Only issue is the bass is a bit lacking, but that is more than fixed if you've got a sound card with a global equaliser. Once you've boosted the bass frequencies a bit they are powerful as fuck.

I can't seem to locate the ad700's anywhere in Sweden for some fucking reason, which is a damn shame because now that I've opened up to the idea of open cans they seem like an excellent choice and they fit my budget perfectly.
Any other ideas?
[editline]23rd June 2011[/editline]
Actually I hit up one of those price comparison sites and did a search, with some easy selections I managed to get it down to 82 headphones.
This is basically what I'll be able to get, it's a pretty large and comprehensive site so I'm pretty sure nothing got left out.

Scroll down a little bit and the list starts with sennheisers, it's sorted after manufacturer. Mouse over anything to see a picture. It includes both closed and open cans.

I hate to be the obnoxious a-hole telling you "hurr headsets r stupid" but frankly they are. I realized when I actually started comparing prices to what you get and you pay such an insane amount of money for a little bit of plastic that holds the microphone in front of your face and attached to the headphones.
You really have to ask yourself how often do you actually use a microphone? And I don't mean for the casual cs/cod/whatever you play mic spamming I mean for actual important voip chat with friends/clan mates/team mates and then consider, is the small inconvenience worth it or should you still fork out an extra $50 to get the same level of quality?

these cost $100. not only is it a piece of shit i got for free, the headset doesn't stay on your head, the sound quality is on par with $15 headphones and the build quality on the thing is awful. my cx-300's blow them away in every category and they are earbuds that cost $25. no excuse.
welcome to headsets, everything is overpriced and shit.
I skype with my family often and I also use it frequently in games and voice recording
Fair enough, in that case I suggest the Sennheiser PC-350. From what I understand it's basically a 380 pro with a mic, more bass and is about 50% more monies.
Budget: ~under 200

Budget:
£100 / $160
Can you use Ebay:
Yes
Country:
United Kingdom
Isolation:
No solid preference, I prefer closed because I don't want to annoy people with my music, as long as the quality is good I don't mind.
Purpose:
Gaming: 55 percent
Music: 40 percent
Movies: 5 percent
Musical Tastes:
I mainly listen to Hip-hop, Dubstep and Drum and Bass so the low ends/bass are quite important.
No microphone required on the headphones, but if anybody has a good recommendation for a desktop/clip on microphone that doesn't suck and is quit clear then let me know, budget for that is £40. They also need to be sturdy as I have a habit of just ripping them off my head and dropping them, they should be comfortable too as I wear them for around 4-5 hours straight.
HD-25 II's.
You'll get 2 sets of ear contacts, suede-like plush ones and faux leather, I strongly suggest the plush ones for long wear, usually the ear contact point itches and sweats a lot for mebut I can wear the HD-25s for HOURS without noticing.
They're pretty balanced noise-wise but otherwise excellent for Dubstep, House, DnB, and anything a DJ would typically play (they're DJ phones) due to the excellent bass reproduction, the isolation means using them with higher volume levels gives you a whooshy deep bass feel which is very satisfying.
They also look swell, very minimalistic yet attractive, will give you a talking point with any DJ or anyone who knows headphones (they're very popular with everyone because they're so good) and you won't look like a complete nerd for wearing them because they're not white, gold, orange, huge or covered in ridiculous unnecessary shit like rusty metal or huge iron bolts, or furry pink shit or signs that say 'PROGAMER XD9900 TRIPLE PLUS'.
Oh, you can also repair, replace and disassemble any part of them pretty quick and get replacements from sennheiser so they're practically going to last forever.

What is everyone's opinions on Altec Lansing? i wanted to get some in-ear headphones that weren't shit like my $5 2XL earbuds are (skullcandies.) and I've been looking at Altec Lansing for $20-$30 in-ear headphones.

I would say don't go with Altec Lansing. I have speakers from them and they are alright but nothing I would consider audiophile. For Earbuds, go with something like Klipsch, Shure, or any other reputable brands (I know Klipsch and Shure make good in-ears).
Good luck mate!

I'm pretty sure someone found out that all IEMs under a certain price limit use the same low quality driver from china. Except for brands with audiophile reputations.
Friend just bought Siberias V2.. what are they like compared to the razer carcharias? And is it true the V1s are better?
