I recently bought ATH-M50's, however, I found out that the euro-to-dollar exchange rate was "a bit" steeper than I thought, and I paid an absolutely insane overprice for them (rate me dumb if you want); 250 US$ (178 €)! Since I've heard that you can get the M50's for 100 bucks from the right sources, I started wondering how much better headphones I could've bought for the price I had to put up for the M50's if I had the right sources. So, just out of curiosity, I'll ask which headphones a US person would've bought for the 250 bucks with my criteria; Budget: 250 US$ Ebay: No Country: "USA" (actually Finland, but for the sake of this query...) Isolation: Closed Misc: Circumaural. Purpose: Music production, so needs to be neutral, shouldn't overemphasize any frequencies noticeably (*cough* Skullcandy Skullcrushers and Monster Beats *cough*) Music tastes: Rap, dubstep, metal, classical... well, there's pretty much something from (nearly) every music genre I like. Edit: BTW, headphone prices for European people with no access to Ebay SUCK :(
Repost due to no answer since first page. Also, although sound quality is by far the major criteria in my search, the headphones have to look at least somewhat stylish. That means that most Grados and the AKGs with the double headbands (the 'mute-when-not-worn' ones) are out of the question, unless the sound quality improvement is very significant.
I've used Altec Lansing before and I'm curious to what you audio aficionados think of these. http://www.amazon.com/Altec-Lansing-MZX606-Headphones-Control/dp/B003FMUP4G They're super marked down right now, and I've always liked Altec Lansing. Plus inline controls are great for work. Someone said that IEMs aren't really great until you get to the $100 pricerange - hell, I think that's the OP - so $100 IEMs for $35. Yes? If not, I have a preferred budget of $50-$80. Keep in mind it will just be used on my iPod for work and for the occasional FaceTime. I'm not a real audiophile, I'm just tired of my shitty $5 headphones.
Budget: £0-£100 Isolation: Open Country: England Ebay: Yes Purpose: 90% Music 10% Gaming Genre: Rock, dubstep and dnb

However they are closed back, which isn't what you want. However but from what you listen to a closed back will be better, they do much better jobs in terms of bass. If you want open backed you could always go with the Audio Technica AD700, which are great headphones also, but they have less isolation which means people around you can hear it too. The M50 go for £20 then the AD700 on amazon.co.uk.
Whats your opinion on these headphones guys? -Sennheiser HD 418 - Gear4 Gp04 I am still looking for
Budget: £70-£150 (thats roughly $110-$240) eBay: Nope Country: United Kingdom Isolation: Open Purpose: 50% Music, 50% Gaming (PS3 and Xbox 360) Anyone??? Not like they care to check if you lie about it.
What if you get screwed over on a payment?
You won't as long as you shop on well known and good reviewed sites and don't do business with strangers you don't trust.
I still need help. Need a recommendation for a headphone that can be bought here in Sweden. I almost only listen to heavy metal. They can be open or be closed, it doesn't matter as long as the quality is as good as possible. My budget is around 700-900 sek.

[editline]4th July 2011[/editline] Or if you insist on keeping to the budget, Sennheiser HD280 pro (380's are slightly less comfortable than a bear trap) or Grado SR60 (there's an SR60i but I don't know which is better, SR60 is slightly more)
Anyone know how good the Sennheiser PC 136 are considered? I got these in December 2009 and they still work pretty well. But I haven't owned any others ever before so I'm not sure how they compare to others.
Budget: $125 USD Ebay: Not possible, I'm afraid. I'm just getting my student debit in the mail this week. Country: USA Isolation: I'd prefer closed, but if I can get comfortable, over the ear open monitors that sound better for the same price, I'm game. Purpose: Mainly listening to music on my iPod and PC. I go to sleep listening to music, and I can handle using over ear headphones for it, but I'd want a durable pair that won't break from that sort of use. I also play video games quite often, like CSS and TF2, but I'll probably just get the clip-on mic for that. Musical Tastes: Eclectic. I listen to anything from Megadeth to Justice, Local Natives to Alice in Chains, and NWA to the Dead Kennedys. Thanks! [editline]5th July 2011[/editline] After a bit of looking, Sennheiser HD518s look very comfortable, thoughts on those too?

I'm getting the 558 in a few days, and all three (51x, 55x, 59x) are built very similarly and from what I've heard, are very comfortable. As far as quality goes, it's Sennheiser audiophile headphones. How do you think the quality is gonna be?
Hope they'll be great, ordering them as soon as my debit card comes in the mail. I have a "stock" soundcard, do you think it'll be a waste spending $130 on them?

Not at all, they'll still sound great. Of course they'll sound better with a good sound card, but it's one of those things you don't know or notice until you've tried it so you'll be fine.
Budget: 150-200$USD Ebay: Hah, I wish. There's a long story there. Country: USA Isolation: Closed. It's actually my main concern. Current pair of Sony MDR-V150's (generic bestbuy) I have can be heard down the hallway here and since I'm moving into a dorm in a month and a half, I'd like to be able to keep my computer to myself so to speak. Purpose: Gaming and Music, both loud, and often with some form of VoIP running. Musical Tastes: Wide, ranging from Speed Metal to Bluegrass to Opera to Techno.
Anyone please? :saddowns:
I'm getting an HD558 in a little while, no idea how the bass is but I heard it's decent. If that's out of your range then HD518. I'll post here once I get the 558's for sure, if I'm lucky I should be able to pick them up on friday if I order today.

Just bought some Sennheiser CX485 IEM's from Best Buy (I'm a dumbass, should buy online, I know). First reaction: Meh, were they really worth the money? So I listened to a few songs on the Sennheisers, switched back to my old headphones... What a difference. Not to mention they fit so COMFORTABLY. By god, I could fall asleep with these on, it's like a pillow, but in my ears. They mostly lack in the bass department, but it's not a bad lack, it's just that my old headphones had overpowering bass and it's quite a difference going from A to B. But it's not weak on bass, mids or highs by any means. I haven't compared them to any real high-end shit (since I don't have any nor want any) but they're a lot better than other headphones I've used, and can get quite loud. And they don't get muddy as they get louder either.
Anyone please? :saddowns:
I'm not sure exactly how much they cost overseas but you should be able to afford a pair of Grado SR60. In general, the SR60 excel at energetic rock/pop/electronic music. They have basically the same frequency response as the Sennheiser HD558 (arguably better) but should be much cheaper.

I bought a 30$ Gamecom headset from Wal-Mart. Not bad. Closed-ear, OK quality, and comfy, but the mic kind of ruins my smooth sexy voice.
