What is the difference between open and closed?, I know it's a stupid question, but I'm not completely sure.

Agreed, it says right in there.
So what's a good middle of the road sound card with amplification?

Xonar DG by far
Well here's a good one, when I go to my favorite online retailer and search "Xonar DG" it gives me the xonar DS but it has the picture of the DG and is priced 2-3 times that of the DG.
Fucks sake.
[editline]10th July 2011[/editline]
I think I'm looking for something a bit more high end than the DG, I've got money to blow and if there's quality to be gained then I'm all for it.
Is it really that much of a difference to get a new sound card? And do I really need amplification?
My motherboard (which is used as my soundcard) is Asus P5Q Pro and the headphones im planning to buy is the Alessandro MS1.

The only other cards with headphone amps that I can think of are the Essence ST and STX, both of which are vastly more expensive.

You don't need an amp for MS-1s. My pair sounded fine out of my old iPhone 3G.

Thanks anyway.
Looking for ~$30 headphones.

Open or closed does not matter.
Are the SteelSeries Siberia v2 headphones good?
Are the SteelSeries Siberia v2 headphones good?
Short answer: No.
Long answer: You could get something far better for cheaper, and the Zalmann clip-on mic would probaly be better than the attached mic on that thing anyways.

If you don't need a mic why where you even looking at the siberia headset?
I need some good speakers, I don't care about nice headphones at the moment.
My budget is ~$150 unless you find me something amazing that's a little over.
ebay sure

I just want something that sounds really nice and can enjoy!
hi
I need a portable, durable headset to use when running/sitting on the bus/etc. About 400 kr. (~40 euro)In-ear or open, I'm fine with either to be honest. As long as they're comfortable. I plan to use them with a phone, so I guess I'll need a clip-on mic too if one isn't included.Music taste is punk, ska, hardcore.
I learned not to buy Turtle Beaches the hard way. I'd like a headset that's similar in quality and comfort, but more around $45-50
Are the SteelSeries Siberia v2 headphones good?
Only if you absolutely have to have a built-in mic and you are prepared to pay £40-50 for the privilege (really only £20 worth of sound quality on those things).
As far as gaming branded headsets go the Siberias are some of the best, but still don't come close even to entry level non-gaming branded stuff.
Budget:
400$ - Give or take a little.
Can you use Ebay:
Yes
Country:
Denmark

Everything but opera.
I have an interesting question.
I'm about to buy Sennheiser HD518s as I said a few pages ago, however I neglected to mention that I wear glasses. Anyone know how soft or comfortable the pads are? If they're going to be squeezing my glasses into my skull like almost all headphones do, I'm not sure what to buy.

I got the 558's and I have glasses, you'll be fine.
The 5x8 series are pretty much the same in design apart form aesthetic differences between models and the speakers which are different in the 518 from the 558 and 598 which use the same speaker.
i'm interested in upgrading from my sennheiser hd202's and am unsure whether to save up or just buy something cheap.
I listen to metal, rock, and a wide variety of bass oriented electronic music.
tl:dr what difference would there be between my sennheiser hd202's, koss ksc 75's, and superlux hd668b's? I might be able to save up to $70, but for now it's $40
No idea about them koss headphones, but the superlux are a great budget choice that apparently sound amazing for their price. If you're on a budget and you can find them, it's the headphones I'd buy in a heartbeat.
Anyone ever heard of green fly music supply? I'm bout to order the 668b's and they're the cheapest site I could find.

IT RHYMES, IT MUST BE LEGIT!
I'm going on a trip soon and want decent headphones to listen to music and watch movies on my laptop with.
Price range: $50-$80 (not willing to spend over $80)
Closed or open: doesn't really matter.
I don't have time to order online so I'm looking for something I could find in stores.
nah but really, what are some good online headphone retailers besides ebay and amazon?
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
I couldn't find any in the OP
My PortaPros are pretty good but they keep shorting out every so often after repairs. I'm thinking of stepping up to some iGrados, but are there any tips to keeping them functional?
