Alright, the only thing I'm missing now is a decent sound card. Any recommendations?
Not so high-end, just decent.

Asus Xonar DG is pretty much what people recommend in this thread.

What's the difference between all the D*letter or number*? I've seen DG, DS, DX, D1, D2X etc...

It has to do with the sound processor and features.
DG has a built in headphone amp which is why people recommend it in this thread, no idea about the other ones.

That's probably just marketing. I'm not that good on sound cards but check in on head-fi's forums, there's bound to be plenty of discussion there.
If you don't have the specific need for a headphone amp and are looking for a slightly higher end card, consider the Xonar DX.
I have one and it can drive my AD700 to a similar level (like small speakers) without distortion as my Galaxy S, and the Galaxy S has a decent headphone amp along with an insanely good DAC. The DX also sounds about as good as the Galaxy S.
I wouldn't really recommend going much higher though - the price/performance ratio evens out to the stage where getting an Essence ST is insane unless you are spending like £500 on a pair of headphones.
they're completely different, one's open and one's closed, the 515 sound much better most likely.
I think I'm going for the HD 515, are they okay?
Buy the HD800's they are great for gaming

No get the STAX SR009 and a woo audio WES electrostatic amp. Its just $10000 just save for a while its worth it k.
I need a replacement for my Sennheiser PC350, which is getting very worm (besides, I'd rather get some good headphones and a clip-on instead of a headset). It's come down to:
Sennheiser HD598

Since both headphones are in a similar price range for me, I'm having trouble deciding between these two. I need something that is comfortable to wear for extended periods at a time, and that can balance well between gaming and listening to music (I especially love trance/techno/electronic music, so bass is really important).
I guess so far the only thing that is making me lean more towards the A900 is the fact that apparently the HD598s leak a lot of sound (I'm curious how leakage compares to my PC350), so I'd appreciate if you guys could share some experiences with these headphones or perhaps make me a recommendation. I only need headphones for my PC and possibly my Ipod, so I don't care for amps or any other specialized equipment that affects sound performance.
Of course, if there are better alternatives at that price range, please let me know!

I was about to say get 558's and mod em to save yourself quite a bit of money but they're not the greatest in the bass department.
They're not bad by any means and maybe it's just because I don't have a propper sound card yet or amplification so don't take just my word for it but if bass is very important to you I wouldn't recommend it. And since I've heard modded 558's are very close to the 598's don't get that either.
If bass is important then ATH-M50?

Hmm, despite how the Sennheisers appeal to me in terms of size and comfort, I keep hearing that argument: they're not the best in the bass department (then again, everyone said the PC350s had bad bass yet they served me quite fine for music over the years). As for ATH headphones, I've heard a ton of good things about the A900 and A700, but I haven't had closed headphones in a while for my PC so I'm a little unsure how I'll like them, especially if I have them on for hours at a time.
Perhaps another question: Are there any full-size, around-the-ear headphones out there that have good bass and perform well for a game/music balance? When I say I need bass, I don't need it to be overwhelming compared to the rest of the music, but just so that it has some "oomph" and force to it without sounding empty and hollow.

My experience is quite limited so I'm not gonna comment anything on the audio technica's. All I can say is the 558's are very comfortable for long sittings and the bass, while there and does provide the vibrations, doesn't quite have the "slap". Still check on head-fi and google for people who have the 558/598 and use an amp with it, see what they say.

Have you used 555s? Considering buying 555s but since they are 'outdated' not sure if I should spend the extra $$ on 558s

I have not used them no, but considering the praise they got while they where still being manufactured and considering they can be modded by removing that little piece of foam to sound more like the 595's, if you can find a good price for a pair then sure, go for it. I got the 558's over the 555's because I had the $$ to spend and couldn't find a price low enough in Sweden for the 555's to justify not getting the newer 558's.

Superlux HD668b
Excellent budget headphones.
Placed an order for the AD700, Zalman clip on mic, and an ASUS Xonar DG. Thanks for all the assistance everyone, I'll post a brief impression eventually.
Ugh, My HD 555 have this terrible rattling coming from the left speaker when i listen to anything that isn't either of a higher quality or turned down to 75%. Any one else had this problem?
(They are still in warranty so it should be easy to replace.)
Superlux HD668b
Excellent budget headphones.
And now I have to chose between "shit looking but good quality sound" (Superlux HD668b) and "awesome looking not so good quality sound" (Sennheiser HD515)?
Damn. I suck at making decisions.
do the looks really matter, it's not like you can see them when you are wearing them
But the Superlux don't even look confortable.
And the HD 515 are sexy as fuck.

200

I'd rather not

United States

Pretty bad with headphones so any help would be appreciated.

If possible you should save up $20 more and get the SR60i, they're way better than the HD515s and HD668s. Otherwise, get the Superlux.
Budget: <$100
Ebay: No
Country: US
Isolation: Preferably closed, or semi-closed
Purpose: 75% Music, 25% gaming. Music involves drum and bass, rap, hip-hop, rock, pretty much all genres
I was looking around myself and was wondering if the HD668B would suit?
After 9 months my Shure SRH440 headphones decided to break, I really liked those.

I'm looking for some decent-looking (read: not huge and clunky), light headphones. (Fold-able is a plus, since I'm going to use them while travelling.)
Price range: 40-60 bucks.
E-bay: No.
50/50 music/gaming.
So, I suppose this is last-chance recommendations for anybody who is helpful! I've set my sights on the HD 558s (HD 555s are about $100, and I can get 558s for about $115.)
Budget - $100-$120.
Ebay: No.
Music: 100%
On a related note, has anybody had experience using a receiver as an amp? I am soon replacing my current receiver with an updated HDMI version, and I am wondering if it would be better to just buy a dedicated amp/dac over using the receiver.

Just out of curiosity, are you planning on doing the mod?
