In fact, I'm probably going to buy a pair of Trittons, if I don't find something I like at my local store. I'm just here for suggestions that match my criteria. Now please, if you have no more suggestions, just stop replying.

And I'm the only one that has given you suggestions that fit your horrible criteria. Jesus analfucking christ.
What can I get for about a hundred dollars including the cheap clip-on mic, my headset is broken. I want something good for music, I listen to everything.
Uh, the quality of the Logitech headset was fine, so I guess I'll go with number one.
Lol are you kidding me I use the exact same cheapo headset and it is the most uncomfortable (I mean wow it feels like strapping bricks to your ears with a bungie cord) shitty sounding headset ever my MS Lifechat one I had before this sounded better. [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline]
Just noticed, the old sennheiser 5x5 series has reeeeeally plummeted in price. Should be worthy of consideration, 515's are like $50 on amazon and the 555's are $100, which is especially nice considering you can mod them and all.
I find it hard to believe that those mods actually work.

I haven't tried any headphones more fancy than my 558's so I have nothing to compare the modded sound to besides the unmodded sound, so I can't say if it sounds more like a 598 but it definitely sounds better than the unmodded 558's. [editline]24th July 2011[/editline]
Anyone?
Sennheiser HD 515 is you can find it for around $50 or superlux HD668b [editline]24th July 2011[/editline]
What can I get for about a hundred dollars including the cheap clip-on mic, my headset is broken. Last time I ever get standard shipping on amazon..The 558s are getting here on Tuesday and that will have been 9 days from the day I ordered them..

Theoretically, if you where to get a pair of grates from the 598's and stick em in the 558's they'd sound near identical. [editline]24th July 2011[/editline] It is very much a dick move by Sennheiser to stick some foam in there to make it worse. And while from what I've heard the modded 558's aren't quite up to scratch with the 598's, considering the price gap it really makes the 598's a bit of a daft purchase.

AMD locks extra cores in their CPUs (sometimes out of necessity because they were unstable). companies do similar stuff all the time, it costs less to manufacture one product and gimp it in some way than two make two, the pad just limits how much air can get in and out afaik.
Even though I've owned these 558's for weeks now whenever I go without using them for a while then put them on and play some music I like it still genuinely astonishes me how good they sound and genuinely pisses me off that I kept the fatalities for so long.
What other clip on mics are good? The Zalman ones are almost impossible to find in the UK.

I have a pair and they sound good to me, probably because the only other headset I've had was a microsoft lifechat with was 100x more shit

Well, just got my HA-RX700's today...and they are very nice! Thank you FP! The only downside I see is that after hours of BF2 they have started to make my ears hurt from resting on top of them. Next step is for me to find a mic with a flexible stem and use my pro modding skills to attach it to my headphones here and make a headset. And 400th post :pcgaming:

G35 is slowly deteriorating, and this god awful woven cord they insist on using has tangled the cord to the point of the sound occasionally cutting out. Can anyone recommend a headset which is similar but not the G35? Price range being 150NZD (130USD).
So today I was rummaging through a box of old pc components and stumble on an old sound card. How old? It has a midi-game port. I pop it in, download drivers (C-media's site is horrible, engrish everywhere and download system half broken) and try it out. I plug in my Sennheiser HD558's and I was actually rather surprised at the quality of an XP era OEM sound card but it's nowhere near what I get by running an optical cable from my motherboard to my z-5500's volume control and jacking my headphones in there. The drivers are neat though, there are actually windows 7 drivers and it has all the features you'd expect from the more modern realtek cirtcuit with some additions, notably an equalizer. It's nothing fancy but an interesting comparison nonetheless.

If you really want something similar, the Sennheiser PC series has what you might be looking for, although I'd just recommend something like Sennheiser HD555s plus a desk mic or clip-on mic.
God damn these 558s sound good. Everything is so clear, and as always I'm hearing things I haven't heard before.. Will get better pictures later.

I'm wanting to move away from Logitec since their shit always breaks on me as soon as it gets the chance. And I'm willing to use a clip-on mic, I'll probably have to bind a button to mute it since I skype a lot however.

Never heard the 555s before, but many people say the 558s are better. I got a great deal aswell, $120 shipped vs $100 555s.
just got the hd595s, some of the best headphones i've ever used(at least so far). anyone know if they're worth getting a amp for?
Can anyone recommend a good external microphone? Ideally for use with skype and ingame voice chat.
