For voip/gaming, a cheap desktop mic is sufficient
Just purchased the Audio Technica ATH-M50s (straight cord version) since the price dropped $20 or so. I got the super saver shipping which was free but it's 5-8 days. I'll let you guys know. It should be here either friday or next week.
In regards to this post, I got impatient and switched it to 3-5 day shipping. Hopefully it'll be here Thursday or Friday.
make sure it's from a reputable retailer because there are a lot of fakes, there's a ton of options in the $60 range, and that's a good choice.
I've looked at shops around here, but they only seem to offer skullcandies/Beats/insert shitty overpriced brand here.
Can you get it in American retail stores? Because I'm going to the US in a few months, and if I can, I'll just buy it in a store, rather than having to buy it online with the risk of it being a fake. :buddy:
Proud owner of a Shure SRH840 right here. I'm currently running it with a Creative X-Fi Titanium soundcard (not the new "HD" version, this computer is a few years old). I use it when I'm mixing music, it's a lot easier on the ears (and more accurate to the true sound) than having a set of monitors.
In the future I hope to get the new X-Fi Titanium HD card (which I hear is miles better) and a small headphone amp for these cans, I need to be able to control the volume on the fly if I'm going to use it while gaming.
any headphones will work
if you wanted to make your fatalitys work with your 360 you'd need an adapter http://www.amazon.com/Headphone-Audio-Adapter-Xbox-360-Slim/dp/B004EZMGIQ/ref=sr_1_16?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1312135667&sr=1-16 and a way to listen to your TV audio, the best way would be your TV or receiver headphone out + an extension cord.
here's a lovely picture

sorry i did the rrod wrong :(
Uh huh.... and does anyone know where I can get one of those extensions?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_i_0?rh=k%3A3.5+extension%2Ci%3Aelectronics&keywords=3.5+extension&ie=UTF8&qid=1312233972 only get one as large as you need, you might get interference at large distances, and maybe spend a little more than the cheapest ones for extra shielding if it's really long.
Buying in-ear headphones for music, generally metal (Lamb of god, Insomnium, Turisas and such), and nearly every major genre.
I want them to have really good bass.
I dont have a big budjet, i'd like them around 70$ at most.

HEADPHONES
GO HERE :)
My sister bought me a pair of AD700's as a surprise gift for my birthday.
They're awesome.
Can anyone recommend me a headphone amp? I'm currently using this
http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E5-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B001P9EQH8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1312320775&sr=8-2
but it just doesn't have enough power.
It's not the greatest and I'm going on a plane soon and would like something to power my Audio-Technica A-700 which have a nice impedance of 64omhs. I would like it to be under $100.
And it needs to be portable, to plug into my ipod
edit:
I was looking at this

is this any good?
So, what do you guys think of the new Ironbuds system?
For those of you who are uninformed, it's a set of modular, affordable, audiophile-quality earbuds. They're made of hardwoods, soft metals, and kevlar. Virtually indestructible. If a piece breaks, instead of throwing out the entire pair, you just replace the broken piece.
I think it's a fantastic idea, and with the funding they've gotten so far (28k out of 12k USD), these should be something amazing.

EDIT: To see the details of the different kits, you may have to click around a bit on their site. They're still working on setting that up, so things keep moving.

Can anyone explain what impedance is?
Ironbuds seem cool I guess, but earbuds are overrated, if they had a system like that for full size headphones, instead, it would be very cool. You could choose your headband type - behind the neck, above the head, and then choose over ear, or on ear, closed or open
I'm still using my steelseries siberias (v1) and some cheap 5.1 logitech setup I bought a few years ago and I'm interested in dropping £50-£100 on a good pair of cans.
The problem is that I'm using a four year old budget motherboard (P35-DS3L gigabyte) with the integrated 7.1 sound card and I don't want to drop a decent amount of money on cans to get the same sound quality I'm getting now because of the sound card.
Should I worry about this?
You can get a cheap soundcard like the Xonar DG, and then spend the rest on headphones.
Like this? - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-xonar-dg-dg-headphone-amplifier-and-51-pci-sound-card-oem
And would I hear a noticeable difference if I just used my integrated versus the Xonar?
And what kind of headphones should I be looking at with a £50-80 budget? 50% games, 50% music.
People and the first post is telling me HD555 moded into a 595, seems like headphones are almost double the price in the UK, $95 for HD555's and £90 here, found them for £75 on ebay though.
Like this? - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-xonar-dg-dg-headphone-amplifier-and-51-pci-sound-card-oem

I'll start saving then! What about headphones wise? Post above might explain more.
And thankyou.
AD700s are around £80 (Amazon?), so they fit your budget. Deficiency of bass but a little EQing will fix that.
They're a tiny bit overbudget but for £5 it's worth it, they do look terrible though, any other ones I could look at or is it silly to even consider?
ATH-M50s if you can afford them
I'd much rather save up another £20 for the ATH-M50's, thanks.

how good is the sb audigy 24bit, 7.1? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102003
i'm unsure whether there's a difference between this and my onboard soundcard. I just had this laying around so i decided to try it. so far with metal & electronic music, i can't find a difference using my hd 202's. do i need a better pair of headphones to see a difference?
