I'm thinking about replacing my razer megalodon(no idea what I was thinking at the time but I got them $100 cheaper rather than buying it directly from razer) since I haven't really been satisfied with them.
Budget: $50-$100(I'm willing to pay a little extra if there's something better)
Can you use Ebay: Yes
Country: Australia
Isolation: honestly it doesn't bother me, but I do like better sound.
Purpose: 50% gaming 50% music/movies/etc(I don't have any preferred music genre)
Does EAX make audio for gaming better or something?
Is there a difference between 24-bit 192,000 vs 24-bit 48,000 sampling when choosing via the sound drivers? This is when listening to FLAC/Mp3's and games.
Also, what are peoples thoughts on "Headphone virtualization"? I can't quite figure out if I like it or not.
Hey guys, I've really decided to treat myself since I am making a good amount of money off of my car, so I'll be looking for something in the $200 price range.
Closed or open doesn't really matter, I'm 60% music and 40% gaming. Right now I am trying to choose between the HD595s and HD598s, not sure what the difference is other than price and looks.
I'd like to order from amazon, thanks!

598 is the newer model.
I recognize that, but is there a difference in them other than looks? Quality differences?

Nothing dramatic. 598 is somewhat better I remember reading but you can get a 595 for a lot cheaper so I'd recommend that.
They're closed, sorry, not open. They're over the ear, and sound great for the money. I don't really know of any cheap open headphones that are over the head, but KSC75 are clip-ons and they are the most wonderful thing in the world.

I was just laughing so hard that I rated you about 14 different things.
Budget: €100 (about 140 US dollars, but shit here is always more expensive so think of it as 100$)
eBay: No
Country: Sweden, I would prefer some headphones that I can buy in a nearby store rather than importing them from some country far away.
Isolation: I would prefer if noise didn't leak out, but it doesn't really matter.
Purpose:
80% Music
20% Gaming
Musical Tastes:
Heavy Metal and Thrash Metal such as Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Annihilator and Slayer.
I currently have some Creative 1337proG4M1NG f4t4l33ty whatever gaming crap so I would prefer something better than that.
I also have a X-Fi XtremeGamer gaming crap sound card, I don't know it actually does anything better than the onboard sound card, but the drivers are a pile of crap and I have to restart them like every 5th hour or sound will not work.
[editline]fuckiforgottoaddthisoriginally[/editline]
Also, not anything extremely uncomfortable, years ago I had some Koss Porta headphones which felt like a torture device and then victimized parts of my hair every time I took them off.
Nothing dramatic. 598 is somewhat better I remember reading but you can get a 595 for a lot cheaper so I'd recommend that.
The difference is like $20 right now, is it worth the extra $20?
Budget: $50 to $100 (a little over is fine).
eBay: Sure
Country: USA
Isolation: In no, out is ok
Purpose: Solely gaming / voicechatting
Musical tastes: Rock n' roll
Something pretty comfortable would be great, also any mic suggestions? Clip on / external preferable
My headset is gonna fail soon (audio is weaker on one side) so I am starting to look for a replacement.
Budget: 79-199$CAD
E-bay: I would rather not but if the deal is REALLY worth it I might.
Country: Canada
Isolation: Prefer closed over open but it doesn't really matter (I can cope with open).
Purpose: Games 20% Music 80% (side note, recently I started watching more movies/series, consider this)
Musical Taste:Soundtrack, classical, I also listen to trance too but lately more to classical
Another consideration: I recognize that I am very rough on equipment, I drop my headset on the ground maybe once a week(why?; rush to phone, diarrhea, shit happens...) I would like a tough headset, one that can take a few drops and will last a long time, I am looking for a fair amount of durability!
Does not matter if its a headset or headphones (willing to get a clip-on or something).
PS: I have a fetish for analog rather than usb, willing to cope with usb.
My Sennheiser HD558 just arrived in my mailbox. The sound is phenomenal, and they fit like a cloud. Light, and soft. Tested them on various songs, bass-heavy or treble-heavy. Both seem just fine. Bass is a tad on the light side, but still very enjoyable nonetheless. Wire is detachable via a twist-and-pull system. Forked out 102 Euros for it.
Are the HD 418, 408, or 202-II any good for mostly rock but some gaming and movies?
They're closed, sorry, not open. They're over the ear, and sound great for the money. I don't really know of any cheap open headphones that are over the head, but KSC75 are clip-ons and they are the most wonderful thing in the world.
I just got my HD201 and I have to say it's blowing me AWAY compared to the crap I've used in all the years leading up to now. Thank you!
They aren't quite as loud as my old ones, though...but then again I probably need to stop listening to headphone music at such extreme volumes anyway. I'll get used to this for my own good. :v:
I took a look at Razer's new "7.1" surround sound headset, the Tiamat and it has the same specs(from what I've noticed) as the Megalodon, except it has 10 drivers.
My dog chewed the earpieces off my Audio-Technicas. Can I just buy replacements for them without buying new headphones?
So, uh, what does driver unit do for the sound? Like, is there a major difference between 40mm and 50mm?
I get a free pair of some expensive Sennheisers when I start my Audio Engineering course in a fortnight, no idea what kind but I'll post them once I get them.
So, uh, what does driver unit do for the sound? Like, is there a major difference between 40mm and 50mm?
driver size doesn't really matter
^So paying 10 dollars more for the same pair of headphones with a 10mm bigger driver size wouldn't be a good idea, then?
[editline]19th August 2011[/editline]
The 10 dollar more one also has a lower minimum frequency response by 10 Hz.
The 10 dollar more one also has a lower minimum frequency response by 10 Hz.
Now, I am a complete idiot in this subject and by no means have an education in it but I think that having a wider frequency range is better right? And that having the minimum frequency reduced by 10 would mean having better bass? I could be wrong but I heard this a long time ago, could someone point the right direction?
You can't hear below 20Hz

That's what I'm under the impression of, but I want to know if it's a big enough difference to warrant spending an extra 10 dollars.

the driver size doesn't inherently make it better, nor does the frequency response: see HD201 vs HD202, the HD201 are better, cheaper, and have a worse frequency response. It just depends on the headphones you're comparing.

Oh well, I guess I'll just get the AD700s at some point.

Quoting for new page.
Everything is so fucking expensive here in Sweden jesus christ

Well if you are getting a pair of sennheisers I hear they are usually fairly tight on your head but you can leave them stretched over something slightly larger than your head and then they are really comfortable.
