Should I be using the dolby headphone thing on my soundcard? I'm always sceptical about dumb 5.1 headphone things. I'm gonna try it out.
It's really effective for gaming (especially Left 4 Dead) but I rarely use it since it makes Mumble echo and much louder (sounds like it is coming out of all the virtual speakers), and all 3 modes give me a headache eventually (especially DH-1). That's probably just me and/or the AD700 though.
I wish there was a way of tuning it beyond 3 presets :(
I was really impressed with it, my Grado have a really bad soundstage and these help a lot. I'm going to keep trying it out. And DH-1,2,3 are Dolby things.
I feel stupid. I went to the store to buy a headset since my old pair was basically fucked. Find the "Steelseries 5H V2 Pro Gaming" set, the cashier is being nice says they're good for surround in games bla bla bla. 60 bucks. So I fall for it.
Get home, plug in, decide to try them on some musi- THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT.
The sound is AWFUL. Most likely because the ears are so distant from the actual headphones, so the bass is near nonexistant unless you muck about with the equalizer. In games the sound is equally awful. Sure, the surround is GREAT, but that does NOT compensate enough for the lack of quality.
I'll be going back to the store tomorrow with the headset, repackaged, and see if we can come to an agreement.

distance from driver = more soundstage usually, and isn't a sign of quality or lack of.

Well, the ear cushions are huge. If I pressed the earphones closer to the ear, the bass got more noticable.
I need some in-ear headphones/earbuds. Currently rocking some £8 Panasonic ones that really aren't that bad, but I'm sure I can get a lot better.
I've been using these at my PC rather than my headset, simply because of the comfort. I find that having these shoved into your ears for hours is a lot better than having a big heavy headset. I can also use them with my iPod. So now I've come to the conclusion that instead of buying an uber leet gaymen headset, I may as well get some earbuds.
I have a budget of anything up to around £50, I'll need something that will actually last for a while rather than break after 2 months (like my last few earphones), has a slightly longer than average cable and is comfortable. I've just been looking at some Sennheiser ones, but I'd like somebody elses opinion beforehand.

Got these for my brother recently and everyone that has tried them has been blown away by the quality and bass (compared to typical decent Sennheiser/Sony stuff).
Overall they are very well built - braided cable (like the G5/G500 but thinner) and all. I can see these lasting for years easily.
A black marker is necessary to cover up the pink spots on the cable however (not visible on the Amazon images), but not really a big issue.
Might have to grab myself a pair sometime :v:

Pink spots?
And It would seem a steal at only 20 quid, might have to buy some. What's the difference between Pop/Rock/Jazz, do you know?
on the topic of what is best suited, I mostly listen to Metal/Metalcore and Drum and Bass (uh, Pendulum) and Hans Zimmer to put me to sleep

Apparently very little, and nothing a bit of EQ can't even out. The pop ones sound great for most music anyway without any EQ; loads of bass etc.

That but pink the whole way along the cable. Completely hidden after a couple of minutes with a black marker, hasn't worn off or anything.

ah, I see.. guess it shouldn't be too hard to get rid of, and at least the cable looks like it's high quality.
do you know the shape of the 3.5mm jack? the ones I use now is sort of set at a 90 degree angle, ones I've had in the past have broken at the jack because of the wire getting bent a lot. do you think I'll get any problems like that with these?
I'll probably end up buying them anyway, just wondering.

It's a straight jack but very strongly constructed and the wire can bend 180 degrees immediately after the jack back on itself no problem. Can't see it breaking easily any time soon.
Looking for a worthy replacement for my Klipsch S4's. <$100
I do clear sound, but I like noticing bass. Was looking into MC5-MC3, UE 600, etc.
So, I'll probably end up buying some HD555s. Should I go for refurbished ones for $65?
Budget: £200
Ebay: Yes
Country: England
Isolation: closed
Purpose: Music on phone (Galaxy SII has a good DAC)
I have a wide range of music genres but it's mainly rock and drum 'n bass.
I was thinking of getting the Klipsch Image X10 but I just some opinions.
Re-post.
Just got the Equation RP21 Headphones in the mail. They are very comfy. The sound is great and the isolation is amazing. Now that I have these headphones I don't have to listen to my brother yelling at people over Call of Duty. The headband is very comfy, I had them on all day yesterday and it didn't bother me one bit. The only thing bad about these headphones are that the bass isn't that good. Overall they are definitely worth it for the price, and I would recommend them to anyone who has a price range around 90$
My headphones broke a few days ago, I am looking for some new ones to listen to Techno and Metal along with some gaming.
I don't have much of a preference on whether they are open or closed other than I want to be able to hear people a few feet away from me somewhat clearly.
$80.00 or less is my ideal price range.
Thanks FP!
I'm planning to pick up a external soundcard to juggle between my laptop and desktop. I will be only using headphones with i need the soundcard. Good idea or bad idea?
Also anyone recommend any sound cards i should pick up?

I use a X-Fi USB one, it's pretty good for £35 and can be used as a key fob.
Can anyone help me? I still have a €5 headphone...
I don't think I can use eBay.
My budget is 0-50 euros. (:sigh:)
I prefer it to be closed, because I am the kind of guy that is ashamed by my taste of music AND I don't want to irritate other people.
My music style is rock/pop that isn't ladygaga or justin bieber or whatever, so I want some good bass.
I use it for
60% Music
30% Gaming
10% Videos

How are http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD201-Lightweight-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0007XJSQC in terms of comfort? I can deal with whatever sound quality they provide, but they seem perfect (closed, circumaurual, pivoting ear pieces) all for less than $20.

They're comfy, your ears might start to sweat after a couple hours of wearing them but thats a given. The quality is actually very nice considering the under 20 dollar price tag.
What is a good headset with decent sound quality for music and good mic quality? I can't do headphones. I want to, but desktop mics and mods and all that bullshit don't work for me. My budget is $50-100.

you can get a mic that you can clip onto your shirt or headphone cord

too much wire clutter, and the most popular choice, the zalman clip-on, is a piece of shit and i don't know of any alternatives
