S/Pdif out from on-board audio into external DAC+Headphone Amplifier.
Has the added benefit of removing the whole analog side of the audio from the incredibly noisy environment that is the inside of your computer.
I would, problem is using an optical cable to the control pod of my z-5500 causes strange crackling and distortion which doesn't seem to be tied to any kind of volume or frequency, just at random points in a song I'll hear this crackling that's not present at all when using 3.5mm plugs. No idea if it's my motherboard or the control pod but I've tested several different cables. Sadly my motherboard doesn't have coaxial out or i'd be all over that shit.

Budget: 100 dollars

My only extra comment is that it's IMPERATIVE that it has a built in mic. I hate clip-ons.

Ok. I really don't care, I just don't like clip-ons.

What about a desktop mic?
Shit, the AD700s are 90 dollars on Amazon right now. As much I hate external mics that's almost too good to pass up. One question though, how sturdy are AD700s? I'm kinda rough my on headphones.

They will not break, trust me.
Shit, my sound card is integrated, are the AD700s still worth it?

Go for it and get a sound card later.
Okay, so I'm thinking of getting the Sony MDR-XB1000, but I have no space for a soundcard since I'm running 2 GPU's in SLi, which needs to be spaced out so they get air.
What do?
well technically it should be possible to extend the leads of one of the slots, and so putting the soundcard any distance from the other two cards.
seems far fetched, but besides buying a new motherboard seems like a viable option i guess if you insist on keeping the gpu's like this.
i bet they sell some kind of ribbon cables to do that.
External soundcard.
or that yes. didn't think of that.

Maybe get a usb sound card
No way in hell I'll get a new mobo, just got this one for the GPU's.
I'll not do any extra wiring, and I don't have any more room for it to fit in the PC even though if there are some ribbon cables.
What is a USB sound card then? When I'm gonna use 250$ on a new headset I don't want it to sound like ape. I have around a 250$ budget for a soundcard too.
i don't think usb soundcards will be that good, realistically i think you should be looking at something like a firewire soundcard, or usb 3.0, or esata or whatever the kids use nowadays.
I got a pair of M50's and I can't say I'm impressed. It almost sounds like my hd202's have a better soundstage. The M50's sound cleaner and less dull than the 202's, but I can still hear almost all the details with the 202's as with the M50's.
Headphone newbie here. My pair of Sennheisers died on me, would like to see if there is some better stuff out there in the same price-range.
Budget: Around $50
eBay: Eh I stray away from it.
Country: United States
Isolation: Yes please.
Purpose: Gaming and music mostly.
Music Tastes: House, Rock, Downtempo, Dubstep, Electronica.
Previous Experiences: Ipod shitphones, Sennheiser CX 300-IIs
Comments: Would like a pair of in-ear headphones, I would really prefer if it had some nice bass to it.

What I've read this amplifier (not a sound card) combined with this should be great.
On Amazon.co.uk the price will be £127.32.
I have no experience with these though.

Of course, with that budget you'll probably find something better.

I'm pretty sure using an amp helps to boost the midrange for the m50s

Anyone know of a good amp for someone on a budget? Doesn't have to be portable.
[editline]2nd October 2011[/editline]
I thought these headphones had such a low impedance that you didn't need an amp...
