now I understand, fuck me
[editline]2nd December 2011[/editline]
but still, why would you rule out potential products like that when there's absolutely nothing wrong with them and according to many, many people they're extremely comfortable even with the stock tips

Just got my HD238's
I've arrived at the HD 595's at 139 euro's (10 euro's more than 555) and they seem ~perfect~. Anyone had these before and wants to comment on them?
Okay this is disconcerting, I've been reading up on the ATH-M50's and I keep seeing such extremely polarizing reviews. Some say they're not all that great and pretty harsh sounding with a limited soundstage while others would have us believe they're jesus christ reincarnated and you are a horrible person if you don't already own 17 pairs.
As reviews are so incredibly dependent on personal preference and in the case of non-professional reviews (such as comments on head-fi) strongly dependent on the quality of the audio source and things like burn in.
I really have no idea what to make of all this, help anyone?

Exactly the problem I had yesterday. Coupled with the fact that I can't test run any of the potentionally interesting headphones, I just went the safest route of Sennheiser, what with them all being excellent all-around.
What are ATH-M50's like? Worth buying?
Yep, I have them. Give them a nice burn-in period though, don't expect them to sound perfect the second you open them up.
I've got HD558s on the way, but I will need a mic, the mic has to have some kind of direction so that it isn't picking up the sound of say a fan behind me, or my brother if he is talking in my room.
Budget is $60, thanks guys!

Odellus have you picked up the HTF600 yet?
Odellus have you picked up the HTF600 yet?
nope, not going to
I need iems more right now

etymotic research hf5 or mc5
I was looking for some that doesn't go all the way in.
Earbuds suck and the best ones you'll find are Apples. Noone bothers to make them properly because they're such a bad design, small drivers without a seal = high volumes to drown out outside noise with poor sound reproduction.

At first you ignore multiple of my posts requesting help on choosing a good product, but you jump at the opportunity to ridicule my (perhaps false) statement. And even then you don't provide any helpful information or explain why Sennheiser isn't a good idea.
Sorry if I sound harsh, but I really don't want to find out that I've bought a lemon and then people saying "lol, why did you choose that, you could've known X is bad if you asked".

you said the safest route is sennheiser which is funny to me because they're known to have a lot less neutral sound signature than other phones in the same price range, the 595s are great and you did well
and I didn't ignore your posts, I just can't reply to every one of them (I didn't see it/lazy)
Sorry, but this got buried at the bottom of the last page and nobody replied so I figured nobody would mind if I reposted it.

Comments:Headphones preferred to headsets. The budget isn't too strict and you could go up to maybe £130 or so. I am not fussed about headphones needing amping, though I would need some advice on the amp too. I have looked also at ATH-M50's and am wondering if they would be the right choice based on what I have said so far?
Why are you all so against headsets? People use them for gaming, they need the attached microphone which works worlds better than a clip-on.

It's more the specific headset mentioned.
Also I highlighted the part that's bullshit in pretty much all cases.

You're stupid. They don't work better.
Budget: so my budget is up to $99, might be willing to dip a bit higher than that if necessary for something worth it.
Country: US.
Purpose: Gaming and music
Music Tastes: Electronic, techno, dubstep, stuff like The Glitch Mob/Juno Reactor/Nero
Previous Experiences: Currently own the Sennheiser PC350, for about 3 years.
Comments:Might need for it to have a proper sounding mic, I'd rather not get a desktop mic for convenience. I've been looking at other sennheisers, akg's, and Tritton headphones, not sure what to pic as I have not had any experience with head phones other than my sennheisers. Also what's the deal with 5.1 surround sound in headphones, is it a gimmick or is it actually useful for gaming?

You won't get nice headphones with a built-in mic. 5.1 surround in headphones in a gimmick.
What I'd recommend (and you will love them): ATH-M50 and Zalmann Clip-On mic
Probably around $150 for both of them.

If that's too much I can suggest something else

whatever you guys say then, whats a decent microphone that would preform better than the microphone on my razer headset? This thing picks up me and only me, and clearly. I've had that logitech desktop mic, and my friend did too, it is shitty as anything, flimsy and picks up every sound in the world

lol you own a razer headset
Owning a razer headset eans you basically aren't allowed to talk about audio quality EVER again.

That price is fine, would they be an upgrade in terms of sound quality/bass compared to my PC 350s?
Also Amazon is suggesting I get an AMP for it, the E5, should I? I don't have a dedicated soundcard.
