That price is fine, would they be an upgrade in terms of sound quality/bass compared to my PC 350s?
Also Amazon is suggesting I get an AMP for it, the E5, should I? I don't have a dedicated soundcard.
Very much so. And I'm not too sure on the subject. I have a Xonar DG and it has a built-in amp and it works fine, not so sure.

You won't need an amp, for sure. I have the m50s and they can be powered by anything.

The Realtek audio chipset on my mobo does the job fine.

lol
Getting mixed suggestions here, sorry to sound stupid, so is spending the extra ~$30 worth it for the amp?
If you're gonna use a phone/mp3 player.
My phone struggles to power them, lows and highs are drowned out
I use the E5 with my SGS2 and it sounds worlds better, but on a PC you don't need one.
I'm buying headphones for my brother-in-law for Christmas. He's no audiophile, doesn't care about sound cancellation nor portability, and wants them mainly for gaming and video editing. My price point is $100 and I'm really looking for something that doesn't need an amp.
From stumbling around on the Audio Technica site, I found the ATH-T400. Comments, suggestions?
Sup guys.
Would appreciate some advice.
Budget: < $150, preferably < $100
eBay: Preferably not.
Country: Norway.
Isolation: Well isolated. That is important.
Purpose: Music / Gaming (50/50)
Music Tastes: Pretty much everything, but mainly rock, pop and country.
Previous Experiences: Fatal1ty and Steelseries Siberia V2, never blown out of the water by either, and they are both getting a little broken.
Comments: Isolation and comfort is important.
Budget: ~ 70€.
eBay: Nope.
Country: Denmark.
Isolation: Circumaural, possibly open.
Purpose: Mostly Gaming, also Youtube videos.
Music Tastes: Whatever my games have, usually techno and metal.
Previous Experiences: Uncomfortable gaming headsets (Fatal1ty being my latest).
Comments: I am not an audiophile. Directional audio in games should be clear and sound distant. I heard that open cups are better at doing this.
I'll be using them with a Sound Blaster. Good comfort preferred.
I recently got safety type headphones for my iPod that dim the sound down to a level that was safe to listen to.
(I should have read the tech details first.)
So now I need to get another pair, would be great if someone could assist me.
Budget: £25 to around £50
eBay: No.
Country: UK.
Isolation: Isolated enough.
Purpose: Music
Music Tastes: Metal/Dubstyle/Hip-hop/Rap
Previous Experiences: Skull Candies, really liked them for the looks.(:v:)
Budget: Max 73 USD/54 EUR/47 GBP/500 SEK
eBay: No.
Country: Sweden
Isolation: I honestly don't know, I've only used KOSS porta pro before when listening to music on bus.
Purpose: Music / Gaming (50/50)
Music Tastes: Metal, Johnny Cash, Game music.
Previous Experiences: Creative fatal1ty (shit) and Razer Carchsomething.
Comments: I'll use these for music when going to school (1 hour bus ride, total 2 hours there and back) and some light gaming on laptop.
probably didn't make myself clear, but I want something like this:
http://www.daveywaveyfitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/iphone-earbuds.jpg
Earbuds like these (except not shitty quality), not the ones that go in the ear.
These kinds of earphones are literally the worst dude
I know I was hesitant to shift to the in-ear ones too, but once I did I never looked back
they're just way more comfortable.
they're just way more comfortable.
But the sound quality is atrocious no matter what.
comfort is a kind of thing you have to search for for IEMs, but once you get a pair that sounds good and is comfy, you won't want to use the standard iPhone earbud shit ever.
I have a pair of in-ear Sennheisers that are just fantastic.
Budget: about £120-150
eBay: dont care
Country: UK
Isolation: not too important, will possibly use while cycling so maybe its safer if theyre not that isolated?
Purpose: Music
Music Tastes: mostly grunge, bit of metal (guitar tones and vocals v important)
Previous Experiences: some sennheiser £40 in-ears, I also own sennheiser HD280 pros.
Comments: doesnt have to be too neutral. will be mostly used for travelling so probably looking for in-ears (im open though, if you have some nicely portable full headphones in mind) Will pretty much be used exclusively with an ipod. comfort important, ive had problems with in-ears in the past. budget not super strict. also if theres no point spending this much on phones that will only be used in an ipod then please say!
Is the only difference between the ATH M50 and the M50s the coiled or straight cable?
The S I presume stands for straight, so yes.
Budget: €100-€150
eBay: Yes, eBay is fine. I'd prefer the likes of amazon however.
Country: Ireland
Isolation: Yes, very important
Purpose: 40% movies/tv-shows, 35% music, 25% gaming.
Music Tastes: Dance, Electronic, D&B, Rave, Trance, Hip Hop.
Previous Experiences: Logitech G35. I liked the general audio quality of it, and the '7.1' feature helped tremendously during Movies and TV-Shows, I am certainly not one to think that it is just some gimmick feature - it was genuinely useful in my case. However the build quality of the G35 is absolutely atrocious, the reason I'm buying this new headset is that my G35 has broken in the exact same place for the third time, and I really don't want to bother going about getting another replacement.
Comments: I'd prefer a headset (includes a microphone). As opposed to some people wanting the 'atmosphere' of their room in their mic, I just want my voice - that's it. A clip-on may work, I don't want a desk mic though. I'm very open to the idea of another headset that has the '7.1' technology, though I doubt too much that's going to happen, since poor build quality seems to go hand in hand with headsets that have 7.1, as is clear in my G35. I've heard good things about Sennheiser headsets, so I may go down that route. I'd consider bass to be quite important, in the majority of artists I listen to, bass is featured quite predominantly.

Logitech G35s.
Logitech G35s.
No.
Sennheiser HD448 for cheap, Audio Technica ATH-M50 for quality.
Get a Zalman whateverthefuck Z1 or whatever for a mic.
Logitech G35s.
This is the HEADPHONE THREAD. Not shitty plastic headset thread.
LaparNar said gaming aswell.
LaparNar said gaming aswell.
That doesn't mean he wants to wrap his head in turds.
This is the HEADPHONE THREAD. Not shitty plastic headset thread.
So you want your headphones to be made out of steel?
Any headphone with "gaming" even related to it's marketing or product info is trash and overpriced.
[editline]5th December 2011[/editline]
So you want your headphones to be made out of steel?
I have a $20 plastic headphone that doesn't break at all. Plastic can be constructed well and some higher end headphones have metal reinforcements as well.
So you want your headphones to be made out of steel?
No, I want fucking quality. You literally linked him a pair of turds to strap on his head.

Music Tastes: Loads of stuff, but I'll be more than happy with a headset that gives good bass with things like Caravan Palace (especially Clash, their new single)
Previous Experiences: Steelseries Siberia, so anything better than that would be cool. If you know something equally or more comfortable with better sound I will love you forever.
Comments: Isolation and comfort is important.
Yeah, I copied LarparNar's and changed it a little bit. I think he's me.:tinfoil:
