More likely your audio source is causing the distortion than the headphones.
Try different sources.
You're right, it seems my cell phone doesn't have the power to drive them, then on my computer it's perfect.
I recommend Beats by Dr Dr (yes I am being 100% serious)
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/folding-fashion-stereo-sports-headphones-red-3-5mm-jack-106835
they take 5 weeks to arrive, but the bass is decent for 12 dollars (not as good as portapros though, but what do you expect?), they are perfect in a town that has no idea about headphones and just think Beats are good.
my taste is mostly EDM, so house, trance, dubstep, trip hop, and other things are what I use it for.
dealextreme is also good for lasers :pwn:
or spend money on a over-ear headphone that won't give you ear cancer
I bet someone could get a pair of those Beats knockoffs, then mod the Koss KSC75 drivers onto them(same drivers as Portapros). That way you'd have the ultimate fake Beats, master Beats you might say.
I have finally got round to buying some Audio Technica M50's, I have wanted them for so long, And the only thing that Put me off was the price even know its worth it. Its just alot of money to spend on headphones. Im so happy right now, Cant wait for them to arrive.
I got the Limited edition ones for the sake of it too.
It's a shame because M50s used to be sub-$100 (£60-70) but once everyone started buying them as they were the king of budget cans (and still are to some extent, but much less so now) they re-released them and amped the price up significantly, they're still fantastic headphones but back in the multi-coloured packaging days they were the one and only <$100 headphones to get, now it's subjective on music genre, their sound stage isn't great though compared to others in the budget.
how long ago was this because when I bought my A700s two, almost three years ago they were still around $150
Back when they came in multi-coloured packaging rather than the white they have now, they were also more bass heavy back then too, can't remember if it was the other way around or not though.
Also due to a recommendation on Head fi I listened to some Fostex T50RPs today and wow do they sound good for that price, on a iBasso D2+ to.

Some guy poked holes in the drivers on them and said they sounded better than his Pro550s in regards to bass response, I'm about that though.
Those are cheaper rebranded Kicker HP541s
They've been regarded as being one of the higher value budget cans
[editline]i'm a dumbasss[/editline]
reading Shadaez's post would probably be good huh :v:
My HTF600s come tomorrow, but I've decided I should probably go to work, especially since I promised to be finished by end of week
besides, staying home for headphones is stupid
This too:

Those are the same ones.
That's what I meant, you can have a closer look at them, picture wise and sound signature wise if you're interested.
Still looking for something like the htf's but with less leak. preferably under 50.

HTF600's. I bet nobody is even looking the top of the OP.
I'm looking for two pairs of headphones ATM:
Country: United States
eBay: Preferably no
Music Tastes: Rock, Metal, Classical, some Electronic, Pretty much everything except for pop
In-Ear Monitors
Budget: $40-$80
Isolation: IEM
Purpose: Casual music listening, something that I can carry around in my pocket
Studio Headphones
Budget: $100-$150
Isolation: Closed, preferrably, not sure how much of a difference it makes in sound quality with this budget
Purpose: Mixing/Mastering Music
Comments: I took a look at the RP-HTF600-S headphones recommended in the OP (because spending that little money on quality cans would be great), but given my limited experience I have no idea how well they'd serve my purpose. I've strongly considered the AHT-M50s based on what I've heard.
if you're mixing/mastering then you most likely need a very neutral sound signature which the ATH-M50s offer and then some
for the IEMs, I'd say go for etymotic research mc5s
Been using the HTF600s
Breaking them in better do miracles because they're pretty shit ATM
