Why so much hd201 hate. I think they are great for 15-20 and extremely comfortable imo. The only problem really was the lack of bass.
HD201's are overhyped. I have a pair and they aren't that good. However, the comfort issue I was having with them went away after a few days of wearing them.

I don't get why everyone says they have a problem with bass.

joker says they're extremely comfortable
Ok thanks, btw should he also get a $30 Xonar DG with it or no?

The main point of that particular soundcard is it has a built-in headphone amp, the only low cost soundcard that has that as far as I know. So it's a good purchase if you have, or might eventually get, a headphone that needs more power than a typical soundcard puts out. Neither the Panasonic or the Monoprice headphones require an amp though.
I understand I just missed 100+ posts, so this may have been said. Additionally, this isn't quite a headphone buying question, but goes along with it and I consider it important, so I'll ask.
What's the best single-purpose microphone I can get for less than $50? I'm looking for something for games, but also some voice recording and maybe instrument recording (trumpet, specifically). I saw the clip-on mic that is often bought on Amazon for $10 or so, and reviews say it's decent, but I'm willing to pay a bit more for something worth more.

AT2020 needs phantom power and such, I think you meant the USB version, but that's $100 currently, there is a $60 audio technica mic somewhere, I can't find though, BRT posted it once.
[editline]22nd January 2012[/editline]
maybe it was more, but I can't find it anymore :(

I'll probably get the hifiman HE-300s afterall, apparently they're very warm compared to their orthodynamic older brothers and sound similar to the HD600/HD650 so they should be pretty decent for electronic.

Every sound card has a headphone amp in it, or it wouldn't be able to drive anything at all.
Woah, didn't know there was a non-USB model of the AT2020.
Every sound card has a headphone amp in it, or it wouldn't be able to drive anything at all.
Quit being retarded. Obviously they all do, but the DG has one that can drive higher impedance headphones than standard sound cards.
he's not being retarded at all, read cecil's post
Okay, if you want to get technical, I was wrong. But I think if you read my post again you'll see I mentioned the if the headphone you have, or might get in the future, needs more power than a typical soundcard puts out, you'll want the DG.
Obviously this means the DG contains a more powerful, more versatile, headphone amp designed to drive even audiophile level headphones. So while all soundcards technically have amps, not all those amps are equally capable.

Thanks, I'll look into it.
For when I am using my a700s at home I have been in need of a overall equalizer for windows, sense I have not yet purchased an amp for home use. Does such a program exist?

I'm not aware of any way of running VST plugins realtime enough for lip sync etc.

You could use Foobars built in EQ for music. Not sure about for anything else though.
So I ended up buying the ATH-M50s like I was recommended to. All I can say is that I'm in no fit state to elaborate on my opinions, because I need to clean my keyboard before I can type anything.
If this is what they sound like before burn-in then I can't wait to burn them in.
So I want to get some ATH-m50's, but I feel like my onboard sound just won't cut it. Any recommendations for a sub $50 soundcard? :v:
Also, all my music is just high quality mp3s, so would it even be a step up from my HARX900's?
I'm on a laptop (can't replace the soundcard even if I wanted to) and they still sound better than anything I've ever heard. Your onboard should be fine if it's been working for you up until now.
I'd leave it to the experts in this section to agree/disagree with me on that though.
[editline]24th January 2012[/editline]
Also, I've got nothing but 256/320 kb/s MP3s as well, and the headphones still sound incredible. I put on Dark Side of the Moon first thing when I unboxed them and right away I picked up on details that I've never heard clearly before.
I can't really justify buying a soundcard unless my onboard audio goes out again (happened on a biostar board a couple years ago go figure)
I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference

yeah as long as they're at the very least 256kbps you're set

If you're gonna register to troll you should at least pick a thread where more than one joke can be made
I did an experiment, I tried my Audigy 2 Value soundcard with my Philips IEMs vs my onboard Asus 785g M Evo onboard sound(VIA VT1708S) and the same IEMs.
The bass thump is way better with the Audigy 2. With the onboard sound there is a bass note but it has absolutely no power to it, there's no reverb or vibration or anything. This is with 320kbps MP3s of Crystal Method's Vegas. The onboard does have clearer highs though, but once again you can tell there's no real power to it. It's like listening to a radio through cheap speakers.
The Audigy 2 Value is an old soundcard. No special headphone features or abilities. If it makes that big a difference though, I have to believe onboard sound is not really the way to go if you spent the money on a decent set of headphones. I bet even a cheap soundcard is still better. I got my Audigy on ebay for $12 used a few years ago.
So anyone, I still need a good soundcard in the 50 dollar range that would compliment some ATH-M50's. I'd prefer PCI-E x1. Suggestions?
[editline]26th January 2012[/editline]
If it helps any, this is my current soundcard, it's onboard.

Don't listen to this guy (sorry). Trust me, unless you have the studio/environment for it, Markntosh you don't want to go with a condenser. Even the AT2020, it has a much wider pick up than a Dynamic Cardioid, and unless you want all your recordings/teamspeak buddies/etc to hear your computer fans and what not with clarity, you'd best go for something else.
Not to mention, the cheaper AT2020 requires phantom power, which you probably don't have.
I'd say go for something like.... this
http://www.amazon.com/Samson-Q1UCW-Dynamic-USB-Microphone/dp/B000RMDGWA/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1327575509&sr=1-1
Very direct pick up pattern, and much better for those who don't have the right environment for a condenser. Also, if you need a USB condenser, than 99% you don't have the right set up anyways.
