No I'm going to mod the 4AA's you silly billy.
Going to build this microphone:

Can you say Air Traffic Controller from the 70's? Whoop whoop
I'd love a set of these
Beyerdynamic DT109 :v:

Though the 'phones they are based on (DT100) were designed for studio monitoring (With isolation in mind) rather than listening to music.
But hey, if you're extremely set on having an all-in-one "Headset" for gaming there's far far far worse choices and they look militarily cool.
ordered a fiio e5 w/ lod
can't wait to try it with my octaves
[editline]28th January 2012[/editline]
oh yeah I should mention, anyone buying any sort of portable amp for an iPod should always buy a line out dock cable so you can bypass the built in amp
Not the E6? I've heard it's decently better for not that much of a price difference.
So Ochocinco(I feel stupid just typing that) dropped $28k on Beats for his team.
Although the claim that these are
widely regarded as the best in the industry
is hilarious, it also proves I think that these headphones are just fashion items mostly. It's like Beats are to headphones what Air Jordans are to sneakers. So I do give credit to Dre and his partners for making a relatively obscure niche item(headphones) into a mainstream status symbol.
Imagine a guy who has bought 5 dollars headsets for his whole life.
Now he has the Panasonic HTF600.
He has just tried it for the first time with a song by The Prodigy.
That's me.
Whoever discovered this masterpiece of headphone is a god for me now.
Thanks.
Just snagged a used set of this that doesn't come with ear padding for 30 bux

Fuck yes thank you eBay.
I cannot wait to get that mic off and put it on some Pro/4AA's... shits gonna be siiiick.
you could have just bought a modmic for $30
you could have just bought a modmic for $30
Nope I'm good. I wanted the classic Shure look.
Also, it'd be way harder to get a modmic on 4aa's since you'd have to fabricate a piece of metal to get it in the proper hold too. Unless you just lame it up and wanna put it on top.
Not the E6? I've heard it's decently better for not that much of a price difference.
out of my price range
Got my package of Ortofon EQ-5 and JVC FXT90 today :)
Short impressions and complete review with pics later.
In love with these HTF-600's, they sound much better than the Creative 3D Alphas that broke on me, cost $20 cheaper than them, except they leak sound. Not too much of a problem unless I want to bring these around with me.
So, guys.

What do people reccommend for a cheap pair of headphones? Not really wanting to spend much, I have a 5.1 surround system and aquiring a new monitor to enjoy films soon, but of course want better ones than this crap I have to make do with at the moment (shitty headset).
I also have an Xonar DX sound card.

Ugh, I'm having so much trouble with this dumb foobar player. :'(
I'm trying to install;
http://customize.org/foobar/skins/54826
http://customize.org/foobar/skins/49895
But some of their plugins aren't there anymore, they use different versions of Panels whatever that isn't compatible with the latest stable build of Foobar, and they won't show album art.
So I've just resorted to the default Columns UI skin, but it's ugly.

It's mega frustrating too because it does sound way better than Winamp, but, fuck if I know how to make it nice.

You could try Mizo it comes in a nice little .7z file that has everything included so all you need to really do is just run the executable included.
You should also look around on dA as well because there are quite a few nice skins on there that are up to date.
I've tried Foobar so many times, but it's just too much work to set it up the way I want it.
I just don't care about setting up foobar skins. Leave it at default columns ui interface. Prefer it for ASIO.
FLICKITY FUCK.
The left side of my HTF600 isn't working pretty well, the volume is just fucked up.
HELP.
[editline]31st January 2012[/editline]
what the fuck. i hit it with my hand and now it's working.
what the fuck.
That headphone has the rep of the speakers popping out, depending if you put pressure on them. It's suggested you blow on the speaker to pop it back in if this happens. It sounds like it happened to you and hitting it did the same effect as blowing it in.
Yeah if you press the headphone into your ear and let go it will suck speaker outward, try not to do this.
I haven't had any problems like that with my HTF600s
I've found out I'm partially deaf in one ear. lower frequencies aren't that pronounced in the left ear and when i wear them reversed it's the same, so that leaves my ear to be at fault
I could balance it to the left slightly but that makes the mids and highs more pronounced in the left :v:

This is why you don't listen to music and high volume people.
You know how you hear that ringing sound in your head after listening to music?
That is your cilia in your ear dying, basically your receptacles for sound dying.
that's really scary
that's really scary
The scary bit is that lost hearing is one of the things modern medicine can't restore or fix. Once it's gone, it's gone for good.

uh, you're dumb
it's not because I listen to loud music
and trust me I don't for the same reasons
I've never understood those who blast their music, it's not comfortable, chances are it's distorting the sound due to not having high impedence/quality headphones and it damages your hearing, not to mention annoying everyone in public places, there's not one single upside to doing so and yet I always see someone on the bus wearing earbuds listening to Flux Pavilion at 200 decibels.

if other people can't hear your music you're not cool enough
see: teenagers with [A]
replace [A] with cars or shitty headphones

Don't get me started on those who listen to music via their mobile phones on public transport, what a pointless activity for everyone involved.

I ride the train and I know exactly what you're talking about
if it's not a straight up phone speaker, it's apple earbuds maxed out or beats/skullcandy maxed out

probably already have bad hearing, leaky phones or are just dumb

Oh god fucking kill them all.
I want a pair of thunderpants so bad:
