• Should I switch from Windows XP to 7?

Is XP OK for running games? My uncle has a free copy of it nd I really don't feel like spending the additional $100 for Windows 7 HP. I will definitely get 7 later but for now is 7 OK?
You can get 6GB DDR3 1600mhz for ~$220 around here. Then it all depends on the speed and quality ofc. Fixed that for you.
gee that's so much better than 4GB DDR2 1066 for £40 which has now risen to £80+
Get Windows 7 now. Just remember some things might be less compatible with 64-bit than with 32-bit. However 32-bit lets you have more RAM. Oh and you can run a few games on Windows 7/Windows Vista that can't run on XP because of DirectX. (Just Cause 2) I'd expect there to be more on the way.
64 lets you have more RAM.
64 bit also manages programs starting up, and the functioning of programs much better if you have the right processor. For example: i7 cpu + Windows 7 (64-bit) = godly fast.
Only problem so far that I have run into is that my mouses(Logitech MX518) control software is 32 bit only. Although it still has 64 bit drivers.

The fuck, I was just there a few days ago and it only had a 32 bit download. The fuck logitech! Thanks :D. Now I am down to 0 problems. 1 thing I wish Win7 had though is the ability to set volumes more separately. I have the master volume at 50% because otherwise my headset messes up. And if I want to change something to 100% because it is quiet it sets everything to 100%. Although it is nice enough that you can at least set different apps to different volumes. Edit: Fuck, now that I installed it the mouse speed feels weird.
How more separately than 1 slider bar for each program do you need, honestly?
One for each channel for each program. [editline]04:16PM[/editline] No, one for each frequency for each channel for each program.
How more separately than 1 slider bar for each program do you need, honestly?
I want them not locked to the master. Is is annoying that to set something to 100% when master is at 50% it sets everything to 100% :\.
I have the master volume at 50% because otherwise my headset messes up. And if I want to change something to 100% because it is quiet it sets everything to 100%.
This, absolutely. I have my master volume set to 13 since I'm on headphones and can't adjust the volume on the hardware end like you can with speakers. Doesn't give me much room to individually fine-tune the volume of different programs.
I want them not locked to the master. Is is annoying that to set something to 100% when master is at 50% it sets everything to 100% :\.
I set the master to the application that should dictate the maximum sound level (Foobar2000), and I rank every other application according to that. Fixes the problem nicely for me, but I get what you're talking about now.
