Yeah, because buying computer parts is polite/nice/friendly? What? Anyway, I need some good, friendly guides for it. I need to do HW so I can't really look at google now.
If you want complete peace of mind you could just use an anti static strap like this.
What? Stuff that. EDIT: I think I'm actually going to get it. I'm nervous about frying my parts :saddowns:
As long as you're not a retard shits easy. Everything fits into place. Also it's not hard to understand, you know when you touch your other 12 year old friends, sometimes you shock them.. Same concept, except it'll fry your computer.
Put it easy, Do NOT push hard when installing, it will only fitt one place ( for the post part) If you do it wrong you will only get an expensive firework show..

Also, first I get lovely hearts, because I'm learning how to build a computer :) But then I get dumbs because of my age, Ohh, facepunch..[img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/rating/heart.png[/img]

But your ok. We had other 12 year olds who has shitty grammar.
Yep, I've seen heaps ever since I arrived, but really, my first months in FP weren't too good either.
Have fun, little boy!

I'm 17 and I know shit about putting the parts together, I only know basic stuff about the parts. I really don't care, I don't upgrade, I just buy a brand new PC after like 6 years.
:ohdear: Your last search.
It was for my homework...
Do you really need Daemon tools running all the time?
Not really. [editline]10:40PM[/editline] You can pretty much close this thread now, because a guy has PM'd me a VERY good website, it has everything on building computers. Thanks!
This is the most important thing when building a computer. Constantly ground yourself to avoid static electricity. If you touch a part with all the built up static electricity in your body you will fry the computer part 9 times out of 10
I have never needed to ground myself when buiding my computer and fixing it.
It seems some people are a bit confused about discharging static electricity. When you plug your computer into the wall the case is connected to the ground or the neutral return, so if you touch it any static electricity on your body will dissipate, this will still work even if the power is switched off at the PSU or socket. However if the computer is unplugged the case will be left floating, so it will not discharge you, instead you will need to touch some part of the house that is earthed such as the water pipes. How much static you have on you depends very much on local weather conditions and what you are wearing at the time, synthetic material such a nylon is particularly good at building a static charge. Static is not a huge concern as long as your careful, ground yourself at least once and avoid touching component pins.
I learnt how to install/uninstall computer parts when I was 10, I did it myself as well. What I can say is, when you disconnect your PSU press your computers on button, mine (not all) should go on for a millisecond and turn off. That should get rid of the left over electricity. Carpeting is fine as long as you don't rub your hands all over the floor and touch your computer. (I work on my computer a lot on carpeting flooring) Before pulling parts out, make sure there isn't any screws left holding it in, (GPU's have a small white plastic thing that you have to pull down/up to get the GPU out of the socket) With hyper-threading CPU's you need to make sure you turn all the legs and pull them out before disconnecting the CPU (also make sure all cables connected should be disconnected) Good luck! Post results ;)
Sure. But I might get banned for Bumping :ohdear:
Don't worry about static crap, just don't be rubbing your fingers on the PSU power input and you should be fine. If you're worried just leave it for a few minutes (5-10) and it should lose all power.
This is a myth, when you turn your computer off all the remaining energy self discharges within a second or two.
It works with me, if I disconnect/unplug my power and click quickly on the power button all the fans will light up and quickly switch off therefor sucking all the power left over. When you disconnect your PC while its TURNED OFF will work with this. If you have it on and you disconnect its a completely different story. [editline]10:57PM[/editline]
Protip: lose your shoes, keep your feet on the floor all the time. Works perfectly.
Why would you wear shoes inside on carpet...? thats smart now isn't it.

Because it is frankly quite unsafe to open a charged power supply.

Just make sure you ground yourself... you just touch the metal of your case on ze inside, not a thousand times, but once or twice if you've never done it before.... everything fits like it should unless you've read your specs wrong. Good luck! I started about the same age putting GPU & DVD Drives. I built my first rig at about 14!
