I'm 12 and starting to learn to install parts into a computer.

This is what, your fifth? Sixth time? Of saying.
"I'M 12 LOOK AT ME OKAY GUYS"
Why couldn't you just say "Is it good to start learning to build PCs when you're young?"
Honestly, it's annoying you specifically says "I'M TWELVE I CAN DO X, Y AND Z!"

There's a difference between paragraphs
and just doing what I'm doing now, which
is pressing the return key whenever I
reach a point in the page. This
makes it really weird to look at
when you're reading from a decent
monitor, where everyone else's
sentences stretch over the entire
screen. Which is
good.

There's a difference between typing like this, and using most of a line, then pressing return every once in a while
instead of typing
like you
are.
Over exaggeration
Also, goddamn post box doesn't like to stretch all the way to the right and instead auto-returns D:
I started to play around with the computer when I was five, and having a computer back then was considered as a great luxury.
Good ol days...
Yup, also had a PS1 and a gameboy in primary... Now it's the other way round, all the "cool" kids got a PC and a next gen console, while I'm stuck with this shitty computer. :ohdear:
Anyways, be careful when you place in the GPU, I've kinda broken the slot on my motherboard by being too rough when putting it in.
And that carpet stuff seems like bullshit, had my sister's system running on her carpet without any problem. Also, while talking about this, you should also learn how to check a system for failure, like when it's not booting up.
It's basically good practice to place out the system on your desk or such, with only the motherboard, CPU and RAM. Then just take the power switch of an old case and connect it with your motherboard, then plug in a power supply, see if it works. If not, then try to remove the RAM, if that then also doesn't works, you can be sure it's either the motherboard, or CPU, but most likely the motherboard. Pretty off topic, but maybe you'll keep this in mind.
Also, when you place in the CPU, look at the little check on it and place it in the way it's supposed to(you can't really put it in the wrong way though). When you apply the heat paste to the CPU, don't take too much. Take an old credit card or such and smudge the paste. It's only reason is to fill these small grooves which both the CPU and the cooler have. Everything else is kinda contra productive.
I was building computers at age 10, your not special.
So you joined FP when you were 10
i acutally did, this is an alt :smug:
If you want complete peace of mind you could just use an anti static strap like this.
Why did this get dumb ratings? I worked on an assembly line and was required to wear one of these when soldering or handling PCBs, and I used one when I was building my computer.
It's useless, touch the heating or the PC case itself and you should be fine. Also anyone with logic thinking would remove the PC from any power source first and wait for about 5 minutes, I highly doubt there's any elecricity left then.

Who removes a mobo in when the case is in an upright position?
The only thing you really have to remember is to stay clear of electrostatic.
I'm going to buy my GeForce GTS 250 and 500gb/1TB HDD on Saturday, and going to learn HOW to install it by my dad.
Is this a good age to start?
I turned 12 on the 24th of August.
I'm funny now oh am I?
Wow, I've been messing with computers for a good 4 or 5 years now and only messed with that static shit when I first started. As an experiment me and a friend tried as hard as we could to damage every single part of a computer with static and couldn't even when running around on the carpet rubbing our socks on it.
Unless you are running around like an idiot and have a huge static charge in you, you aren't going to damage anything. We later put that computer all in pieces and left it in one of those really awesome staticy comforter bags which always cling to you, it was left in it and moved around and was left in it for about 6 months. Took it out and it booted and everything just fine.
If you just want to be safe just touch your hand to your power supply or something before unplugging the computer.
If you want to know why I am getting a new harddrive? Look at this...

That's why I haven't got all my Steam Games installed.
Well you've run into the everlasting problem of running out of space.
Dont stick stuff in your mouth you might chocke on it.
when i built my first computer had never really opened a case before. it really was just like putting legos together... just do your research and take your time, its not hard.

you did what
Yeah, good to hear.
But apparently you have to touch the case before you do anything or something like that.
And apparently you shouldn't do anything with it on the carpet, but we've done upgrading/building it on the carpet HEAPS of times.
Lol, heaps of times. Haven't heard that one.
I swear to god when i was 10 i fixed my dads pc when it fell apart.
Dangit bobby! How many times do we have to tell you NOT to take the family computer apart?
you did what
Yep. I find it kinda embarrassing to look through my earlier posts now, but what can you do. I wasn't a terrible poster, just not that good.
Wait, I think I was 13. Not like it makes a difference.

I was soldering shit to other shit when I was but a glint in the milkman's eye. How a glint could possibly operate a soldering iron I don't know, but rest assured I did.
great to start young when you get older you can do it like a pro.
