Or just use a PoE (Power over Ethernet) system.
Isn't PoE hard to setup in a home-network scenerio? Maybe not hard, but certainly more expensive? My company uses PoE for our phones, but I've never heard of it being used for a home network.

Had clients who wished to have that done compared to running and terminating a cat5(e,6,7,7a) job. Due to the cost of materials and time, its a better outfit for a very small and limited network.
Would that result in two different networks? Just curious.
Used the same name and password for both, which made it like one network. But changed it now to two different ones since my laptop couldn't connect to the one in my bedroom. [editline]22nd June 2011[/editline]
Are there even any ISPs in America that offer speeds in excess of 600Mbps
There are a few ISPs here in Sweden that offer a 1Gbps connection, not cheap thought. About 160$ a month, except if you go with the Pirate Partys ISP, then it's just about 100$.

Fiber isn't even available to residential areas yet in my city. And large businesses and schools are the only ones that can afford it. I'm sure they pay through the nose for it.

[editline]22nd June 2011[/editline] Also PirateISP is only available in one City.

A buddy in the IT dept. at my work ( where I will be soon ^__^ ) does install and upkeep for a few companies as a side job. Seems like solid work. I also have been doing the same thing on a smaller scale for a few years, for mainly freinds and family.
Wow, you guys ever heard of homeplugs? Sends the internet signal through the mains. Best solution.
Apparently that can interfere with wireless keyboards and mice, old wiring can cause the signal to drop out, and old appliances like refrigerators plugged in can introduce interference. It also knocks out ham radios if anyone cares
Damn how did people get internet before wi-fi? You'd think houses would have accommodated for this by now.

Or they just manned up, grabbed that powerdrill, a roll of cat5 cable and pulled a cable themselves. You young ones have it so easy today, with wi-fi and all that.
Wifi is only good for like web browsing
That's funny, because all networking in my house is done via WI-FI, and it works fine for playing games online or streaming HD videos, even when it's being heavily loaded by my fileserver box. I just avoid crap equipment and actually do my research and read reviews instead of blindly buying something.

And to the dumbs: I'm thinking about this from a normal person's perspective. How is DD and cloud going to succeed with slow US connections and even slower wi-fi connections set up by tech illiterates?
Your average Joe has the shittiest wi-fi available period.
That's not my problem, so why should I give a fuck about idiots being idiots?
You don't have to go through walls, just tuck it under the trim along the floor. Doorways aren't a problem if there's carpet either, just tuck it under on the hinge side where nobody walks.
Mind you evolves pulling the carrpit uo then put it back down - it does work tho - just put it along the wall too - give a bit of slack incase - and dont go down stairs!
